Never had so many problems with a car!

Featured Replies

Only had the car 2 weeks from Border Skoda but its been at the local dealers Newmarket Garage Bannockburn 3 times already....I thought my old BMW was bad at being in for warranty work 15 times in a year but we are certain to break that record lol.

List of what may seem trivial issues but are annoying to me.

Xenon Headlights needed realigned

Drivers Xenon headlight full of water (the dealer that sold me the car replaced them with two new lights the day before pick up)it now needs a new driver headlight and the base plates both lights sit on leveled incl the headlight beam levelled.

fuel flap wont shut needs a new catch.

headlight switch comes out when switching on fog lights needs a new switch.

Heated rear screen doesnt work possible new rear screen needed.

It needs a software update.

There is what i can only describe a very faint rumbling noise coming from the clutch, when you depress the clutch it goes away :wonder:

It needed front and rear wipers as they were clearing "insufficiently"

Drivers seat bolsters have collapsed and are fraying.

I've never been so glad to get into my VW Caddy its 4 years old and never missed a single beat it has most of the same things and they just work!!, everytime the wife comes home i fear :peek: what else has went wrong.

Have i bought a lemon?? its done exactly 30,781 and its 2 yrs an 1 month old!!

Really does seem you have had a lot of bad luck. For you I hope that once you have the problems sorted it will give you years of trouble free motoring. Sorry to hear to got off to a bad start.

Bit unlucky I think.

My 2008 vRS has been totally defect free so far and has proven economical and great to drive. I realise that's no consolation to you though!

Some of the item you list are pretty trivial, for example its not unreasonable to replace front and rear wiper blades. And headlight alignment is down to poor dealer service, rather than it being an actual fault with the car. Software updates are fairly routine on many brands of car these days and are normally dealt with as part of a service.

I would be most concerned about the gearbox noise. That faint rumble could be the start of input shaft bearing noise.

Might be worth getting an AA inspection or similar? There might be other problems undisclosed and I might fret about whether the mileage was genuine? It does sound like a lot of hassle for a low mileage car?

I may be being alarmist maybe it is worth a thought maybe not.

It's either a lemon or a very badly maintained car by the looks of things.

I'm fortunate that it has the warranty and Skoda assistance, but yeh i did think it was a lot of problems for a low mileage car.

I've contacted Skoda uk via email but no reply yet i will call on Monday.

It a shame really as the car is really growing on me.

Depends on what you paid for it, how it was sold etc.. I would'nt bother with skoda, what's it got to do with them? Maybe make it clear to dealer that should the car return with any of the faults you want your money back. However should the car have even left the showroom like that?

Hi, as has been mentioned already, if you have gearbox noises and a worn/collapsed drivers seat I would question the car has only done 30k miles esp along with the other problems you have! Does seem the car has been badly maintained too.

I'm on my 3rd vRS Octavia and never had any of these problems or any problem at only 30k miles..

Hope you get things sorted and this dosn't ailienate you from Skoda!

Cheers.

What can one say. I bet the car was thrashed and clocked to sell. Perhaps you could find out what the mileage was at service - assuming it was serviced on schedule. Get it fixed up under remaining warranty and get rid of it. Of course if you have owned it for just 2 weeks the selling dealer is on the hook. Not fit for purpose. Drop a copy of your posting to honestjohn for his opinion. Best of luck.

well to top it off i checked how long the next service is due

and this appeared doing the "hold button in switch ignition on"

I'll be calling the dealer on Monday with a view to swapping it back for our old car and a call to Skoda Finance.

May be possible to check whether there's a different mileage logged elsewhere on the car?.

I once had a Ford clocked forwards, as it showed zero mileage after a speedo change. Ford were unable to recover the mileage

from the original unit, but when I spoke to the "mileage correction" guy who clocked it forwards for me, he reckoned

that the majority of cars stored the original mileage elsewhere.

Maybe someone one here knows the specifics for Skoda's ?

I presume you weren't expecting to need a service right now ?.

I presume the dealer or you did an Hpi check at some point.

If so, you could try another HPi company as they don't always hold the same info.

In the past, I've been able to get them to tell me whether any mileage info is held on that vehicle, BEFORE spending any money

on getting the actual info

Sounds like you've been stitched up with a clocked lemon, Plenty of well cared for Octys out there. Might be better off taking your time and getting one private. Might even find a Brisky member selling theirs. Or save a little more and get new or pre reg.

If its a skoda dealer get them to give you another skoda, normally you get up to a month to change

Hopefully the dealer will get everything sorted out for you.

The right hand drivers seat edge on our vrs is staring to move out of alighment and the car has only done 16,000 miles. Will be speaking to the dealer about it soon. It shouldn't be like that but **** happens. As long as it is fixed and fixed properly, a few minor things won't annoy me too much but if there were a lot of things I would not be too happy.

Problems don't just happen to Skodas, we had a Jag X-type a while ago - less than 4 years old, 31,000 miles - cost me a fortune to get it fixed. Dealer (Ford in Buckie) was 200 miles away so didn't really care (still waiting on replacement parts they promised to get me and that was nearly 2 years ago). Some of the problems were brake pads and disks all round, rear suspension arms and rollbar links and rubbers, egr valve choked, front suspension drop links, headlight beam height adjuster switch broken, handbrake gaiter burst and I am sure there were some other issues. Although it is based on Ford Mondeo there were enough differences to make some of the parts very expensive.

It was a lovely car to drive (2.0 Diesel) but so expensive for parts, gutsy on fuel (33 -38mpg) and had so many things to get fixed or replaced. I will never get another Jag and only kept the car for a few months - lost a small fortune on it.

My wife used to drive the Jag most of the time but now drives the VRS - she loves it.

I have a Vauxhall astravan which I bought from a main dealer with 43 miles on the clock. It is now just out of warranty and has had quite a few problems which the dealers all seem to say are only covered for the first year. Vauxhall dealers and HQ are the worst in the country (Auto Express rated them last in the list and I now know why)

I got virtually nothing done under warranty as they just fobbed me off or ended up breaking or losing something else then denying all knowledge (eg under engine cover disappeared and left a big clean patch under the engine so you could see where the cover had been but they said it had never had a cover fitted). Vauxhall really gives me a feeling of untrustworthyness and this new 100,000 mile lifetime warranty they are advertising, I am sure will mean the same as my 60,000 one - jack ****.

If the dealer will get the problems sorted out for you, then Skodas are no worse for problems than anything else and a lot better than most. My experience of Skoda dealers so far is so much better than any other dealer and I have owned a lot of different makes of cars and vans.

What we really need in this country are Lemon Laws like they have in the USA.

Cheers

Dave

Where in the country are you as you can check the mileage stored in the ECU using VAG come.

The ECU reading is an approximation, but is typically within 5% of the reading, so if you're past that then it's a good sign it's possibly been tampered with.

I'm in Grangemouth, Falkirk.

sounds like you've just been unlucky.

My VRS is nearly 4yr old, 42000k and (touch wood) never been back for anything other than servicing.

I'm still on the original set of wipers.

I feel for you on this one Grizzle. I know that you were delighted originally from your posts on DW, but it only needs issues like this to put you off the brand forever.

Hopefully the dealer will do the honourable thing and find an exact replacement.

I'm giving them a second chance to put things right in the meantime we are gettin a Toyotal Auris as a courtesy car :giggle:

I really really like the car so want to persevere with it.

I got word back today from three sources about the cars mileage and NO it hasnt been clocked just a poor PDI from Borders Skoda :)

I'm all for giving someone a second chance learn from mistakes etc so see how it goes.

Perhaps you could push for a free service, mats or something for your inconvenience. Poor PDI as you say, but this is the only chance that a garage can physically give a decent impression of their work. They have let themselves down badly.

Either that or get some oil FOC as mine uses quite a bit and it all adds up. Best of luck matey.

yeh i did mention about compensation no idea what i want yet lol :giggle:

What bad luck! As apart from the issues you noticed and posted about before purchase, it looked like a good example.

From what you've listed I wouldn't have immediately jumped on the 'it's been clocked' bandwagon to be honest. And you seem to have had that confirmed. Quite a few owners have found that the bolsters do wear a bit quicker than intended.

The issue with the light sound like a bad replacement job has been done; if they've managed to damage the fitment plate below the light. Same with the headlight switch really. Sounds like it's been yanked out without following the really quite easy removal procedure :wonder:

Clutch - might be the release bearing, if it goes away when depressed - or the flywheel?? Again, should be easily diagnosed by a decent dealer.

For most of this it just sounds like poor dealer service and competence to be honest.

Good luck getting everything sorted

Cheers,

Steve
