VRS gear knob replacement part

Featured Replies

Reviving an old thread here...

I too am suffering from a worn gear knob on my 2007 (57) Octavia vRS. The matt silver finish has worn away in places allowing the yellowy plastic underneath to show through.

The leather is also quite shiny either side of the cap and the gator is marked in places. All in all it's seen better days.

I have two options, replace just the silver cap on top of the gear knob or replace the whole lot, the entire knob and gator.

Both of these options I understand are simple DIY's (the cap is simply levered off, a new one snaps into place), or, unclip the gator, remove the securing clip at the base of the knob and pull it up and off completely.

I've seen the replacement caps on SuperSkoda but they look too shiny and I'm not a fan of the vRS logo (pictured below), I'm also reluctant to replace the cap with another genuine matt silver one from Skoda as I'll be in the same position as I am now after another 30,000 miles.

So, the question is do I just buy a complete knob and gator from Skoda but this time go for the one fitted to the facelift (gloss black cap with silver markings under clear plastic with a chrome surround) or save the cash and buy a another cap?

Iv been looking at these on super skoda but i think im just going to take mine original one off and paint it.

Sorry to hijack the thread but it saves starting a new one.

Aswell as painting the gearstick cover im wanting to paint all the plastic stripes that run around the inside of the car (on the door cards and over the dash, including the radio surround)

has anyone ever taken these off before? im guessing they are just held on with little snap clips but i thought i better ask first, excluding the radio surround, im guessing the headunit will have to come out first?

Emma ,I have replaced the one on the right of steering wheel, (clips out) but NickP admin, has replaced all his with L+K piano black ones, and had a thread about it, pm him

vRS Carl carbon wrapped all his trims, search for project carbon wrap, it should have all the details you need.

I bought the facelift gearknob which has the black top. Shouldn't wear like the silver topped ones and feels a lot better in the hand.

Do you remember how much it was?

Does it come complete with the gator?

I take it it's a straight swap?

Straight swap and gaiter included. From memory it was under €50 delivered from superskoda. 30k km in and still looks perfect.

Great stuff, it looks good!

I've heard it can be difficult to remove the clip holding it on and quite often the clip then won't go back on.

How did you find it, were you able to get it off OK and reuse it?

Not for me I`m afraid bit generic , and chrome on it, mine is still perfect after over 5 years anyway

The clips a pain but the new one came with one so I just cut through the original one. Small hacksaw does the trick. All in its a five minute job.

Cheers mate!

As above - Does anyone know where I can buy a vRS facelift gearknob replacement? I've seen the one I have currently on eBay, but sounds like the facelift one is much nicer, but can't seem to find it anywhere!

Can anyone help :hi:

Buy an Audi S line one instead...much nicer and you can buy on ebay with gaitor attached for £30

kit :)

I did read people's recommendations about that, but I just don't like the shape! I actually like the vRS as is and the facelift one looks better

I suppose each to their own :) I like the round knobs...oooeerrr missus!!! Rather than the face lift model....im sure if you want i could donate my facelift one to ya for the price of the postage...if i can find it that is :)

That would be awesome mate! Let me know if you have any luck and drop me a message

Give me a few days as im away for the weekend tomorrow, but i'll have a look for it when i get back :)

K:)

Is the facelift Vrs knob leather stitched? I'm not gone on it as I think it's the same as any standard Octavia one.
