Just quoted £495 by Chris Knott thats again with Briskoda discount, think this is because its my first mod, they were very helpful and said they could beat the best quote I'd got which was with Adrian Flux. BUT then they just couldn't!

Guy was very helpful though and said it was worth considering them when I'd had the mod for a while as the quote price would reduce the longer I'd had the mod.

have you tried Brentacre?

they were recomended when I asked though I have not had a quote yet.

be interested to see how they compare to the forum sponsors as some have had better prices from them

 I Know the feeling, I am 33 10yr no claims and a couple of SP's

Direct line were £500 but wont cover the mods

first quotes I had were in the £2k range

back to £510 with Adrian Flux, Sky were about the same and I didnt try Chris Knott due to the 2 sp's

keep trying and remember - you will get better fuel economy with the map - so that offsets the insurance :D

well it worked with SWMBO

 My original plan was to not tell her

Just got a quote from Brentacre, £549. So looks like Adrian Flux is the winner. Of course insurance all comes down to where you live, if the car is on a drive, how old you are etc and points/convictions, I did feel like it was a fair quote when I'd spoken to Adrian Flux, just wanted to make sure It was as competitive as I thought. They had the best hold music too :)

If you have points I don't think £510 is a bad price for a modified car is it?

Count me in if we get to 30 !! B)

no, I cant complain :giggle:

problem is SWMBO has a lead boot on occasion so she would have noticed but I do about 30K miles a year so thats the biggest hit on my insurance - but means that even a few mpg improvement will pay for the map in a year

We bought this car about 18 months ago now and its suppose to be OUR car together, she's not driven it yet so I should be fine getting it mapped, maybe I should load it fully up custom exhaust the lot before she drives it :)

I see a hybrid turbo in your future :p

no love - its all standard! :D

I see a hybrid turbo in your future :p

She'd probably notice the difference in sound when I put my foot down. I could always try and persuade her the turbo's going. Then we replace it with a hybrid and when she hears a different note I can just say its how they sound new :D

I keep hearing that you should upgrade your DV if you remap, is this true or only if your doing more than a stage 1 remap?

I'm no expert but Stage 1 is suitable for a standard car so I cant see any need. worth checking the forum for your car as there may be a benefit and the folks on there will be better able to give specific advice.

If it reaches 30 I'm in too Mk1 Octavia VRS

Count me in if the numbers hit 30 :)

You're best off upgrading to a better DV, as the oem ones are prone to split, even with a stock map, they rae made of rubber, whereas forge etc are a steel piston

Could you point me in the right direction for the DV. I've been on Forge and there seems to be quite a few on there. Want to make sure the car's totally prepared if I do decide to go for the remap.

Cheers

Count me down for mapping and sts with shark.

As for DV on diesels it may be worth having a read of

http://www.dieselbob.co.uk/TuningMethods_Plus.aspx

For petrols I agree that they are useful and have been on current car :-)

Bob might not be the place to get remaps as he sends them to someone else but he does know diesel engines

 added to the list

12. lucy_t - map + STS

:giggle: yeah thats why I left the question with a "refer to forum" - I have an oil burner so have no idea - other than I dont need it

there are those that like the sound though

Don't worry about it - the DV problems are only really applicable to Mk1 and Mk2 Petrol Octavia owners

Excellent, thanks!

But that means me

Well, in for a penny in for a pound. I don't have £80 so are the compdata ones the next best thing or can I just get an ebay DV Special like THIS?

Cheers

I think an OEM DV is around £25 and they don't go wrong that often. Just stick a fresh one on it.

Add me to this list numbers hitting 30 (FREE STS)

Thanks

Excellent, thanks!

I only made that statement about the DV as someone in the previous post had asked about upgrading the DV - then he deleted the post!!!!!!!!!!! and it was a mk1 octy 1.8T he had

You can hear if the OEM DV has split anyway, it isnt a necessity to upgrade, but can be worthwhile upgrading to a forge one, as they last forever! as obviously a metal piston and spring is going to last longer than a piece of rubber. My brothers car, my car and a mates 1.8T's that werent even mapped all had split oem DV's

I will be up for map with free STS...

About time as I have been wanting to since I bought the car...

The uprated (new) DV - how much would I expect to be billed for labour?
