Rear brakes on estate FL

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've had cars/vans in the past that when it's damp in the mornings the rear brakes make alot noise until I've used them a few times.

My Octy does this but seems to even when it isn't damp in morning! This morning I released the handbrake and it didn't release until I applied some juice.

Does anyone know how easy the handbrakes are to adjust on the Octy? The car also is happy to sit still even on a slight incline with no handbrake. This is my 1st Skoda and I'm used to Vx so thought I'd ask the question.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem but have stopped using the handbrake mostly after the pads fused solid on the rear disk when I left the car unused for a month.

Does your car have "hill holder" or "hill start assist"? sounds like it.

No, I asked about the adjustment as I believe they are binding.

Mines the same, every morning you can hear it scrapping/grinding when braking. Tried giving the brakes a hard time but still the noise. The noise goes away after a few times of braking. Doesn't seem to affect performance so I just ignore it now.

I cant for the life of me remember what the calipers look like on the back of the Octy, i've never had any problems, however, my mk4 golf used to refuse to release its handbrake, especially in the cold.

The VW Sharan at least, and a few others, have spring clips which force the handbrake mechanism on the caliper apart -- the holes are there to accept them on the mk4, same calipers, just no return springs from the factory on the golf model.

They're about £3 from the dealers for a pair and you can fit without jacking the car up. Not sure if something along these lines would help.

Here's the idea i stole from --> http://www.clubgti.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=207880

Have you checked to see if the piston, or the sliders on the calipers are sizes ?

is it one or both? s'pect it's crap and rust helped along with all the salt, a good strip and clean should do it --if not suspect sticky cables or a flexible brake hose breaking down internally.
