New (to me) VRS and trouble straight off!

Should be 3 rear headrests and ditto re: throttle plate.

Oh well, I've got the address of the original owner (which is on my way to work!). Perhaps I should smile sweetly and ask if he still has them.

Plate is now spotlessly clean. Let's see if that has done the trick (no probs so far - fingers crossed.)

Did you do the realignment with the throttle clean?

That will keep you busy for a while LOL

Okay :| I'm still none the wiser as to how or why. All I did was remove the butterfly, clean and refit. Nothings changed. The servo hasn't been messed with. (Or at least, not by me)

The throttle body will realign itself after a few drive cycles, without the need to run adaptation in Vagcom.

demonufo dont know why the headrests wouldve been taken off in the first place .. dog guard fits fine with them  .. surprised its having issues with only 49,000 .. :wonder: have u done a mileage check on it to see if it is actually right ? ive got an 03 estate with 118,000 on it and not had major issues ... if u get down to south london anytime feel free to have a look / drive mine if u wish to compare

Mileage seems to be verifiable from the service stamps. First two at Jewson's Skoda, and the next three from another reputable Abingdon garage. I must say though, the outside bottom cheek on the drivers side has taken a bit of a hammering too, and the drivers seat belt doesn't return that easy, but perhaps the previous owner was a little, ahem, dietarily challenged shall we say. Either that or somebody's pulled a fast one in good style.

Apart from that and a few dog-like scratches, she's pretty reasonable. All the white bits are as grubby as hell though, so either a serious valet or a bit of a re-trim is in order. Who on earth thought that white carpets and bright white seat panels would be a good idea? :giggle:

Thanks for the offer. If I ever get an opportunity to go "dahn the sarf" I'll make sure to shoot you a PM in advance. I know we'll be doing some central lahndon gigs at some point in the year, so I might have to try and find some decent small music venues in the sarf too. (My apologies for my bumpkin yokel Oxfordshire mockney)

You can't trust service book stamps as being a true indication of mileage.

This is true, but I do know the garages personally. I doubt the Skoda dealer would fiddle it for sure. Also, I do have dated invoices with the mileage filled in print for all 5 services. So it would have to be an awfully elaborate fiddle.

Still concerned about the seat though.

my seat belts were very slow, I just applied some pledge polish on a rag and they have been perfect ever since.

I bought an Audi A3 Quattro a couple of years back which had a fully stamped service book & invoices (all Audi main dealer), however it had 2 oil changes only 2 months apart at Audi Bath that I hadn't spotted when I bought the car. I was bemused by that, & phoned the dealer up, it turned out that the last 2 stamps & invoices were forgeries. Completely fooled me, & the dealer said it wasn't the 1st time they had come across this sort of thing. I'm not saying this is the case with your car, but you do need to make sure everything holds up as seat bolster wear on a car with that sort of mileage is a little suspicious. It's common for the drivers lower seat foam to collapse on our cars, VW Golf mk4's with Recaro's too, but generally not till 7yrs/70k+. Replacing the seat base isn't a hard job, I've done it twice now (£65 & about 2 hours to fit). I did a guide on this forum somewhere.

BTW there is a small white plastic clip on the clutch pedal that sometimes breaks, which can cause the pedal to stay down.

you can do an mot history check online for free. I ran one on mine and was shocked to find its never had an advisory, good sign its been looked after.

Don't think so. Air could cause a crappy pedal and a bad throw, but it's much more likely that somebody's tried to bodge it and recondition the master cylinder. Especially since it took from Friday morning till late Wednesday afternoon (supposedly) to get the parts. I mean really, how long does it take to get a new master cylinder. I could get one same day, so I don't think a busy garage should have a problem.

Either way, I'm going to be firing rockets up somebody's @rse come Monday.

Cleaned the throttle body today as well. The butterfly was stained, greasy, and furry too. Removed it and carefully brushed it back to a shine with brake cleaner, and dried it thoroughly before refitting so as not to upset the pollister in the manifold with nasty fumes/chemicals. Gasket was in perfect condition and didn't require changing. No trouble since.

21 mile run home resulted in no misfires, a few very fast overtakes and an average of 37.9 mpg according to the computer. Not sure how accurate that is though.

However, I'm still a little concerned about the butterfly itself. I thought they should close fully in the relaxed position, but there is still a little gap. It will close up, but relaxes back to the slightly open position. Any VAG technicians present I should be asking about this? I guess it's possible the servo could force it back that last little bit the other way, but fuel systems aren't my area really. Most of what I see these days is diesel and hydraulics, and my real forte was ignition systems and electrical components back when I was an aircraft engineer.

Ooh, one more thing (in Columbo style voice), do these normally come with rear headrests? Mine hasn't got any. :(

Re. the butterfly/TB I think there should be a small gap to maintain a steady idle/tickover?

That may be the problem now, but it definitely wasn't to start with. I really had to pull it up with quite a bit of force to pop it out, and the travel came with it.

Now to add to the problem (although the pedal hasn't dropped again since I picked it up) when I release the clutch pedal, something it hitting it on the way up, as if the cylinder isn't connected to the pedal properly, and that the pedal is releasing quicker than the cylinder.

I'm growing tired of this already. I'm certainly on the edge of telling them to keep it, but I do quite like it. I still haven't bonded with it though, because until this issue is sorted, I'm not doing a damned thing to it, or spending any money on it.

To add to this annoyance, I have an unpaid bidder ebay issue with my leaky old Volvo now, and can't even try to resell the darned thing for another week since I suspect the winning bidder has gone permanently awol now. After I asked for ID, I haven't heard from him(her) once. Losing money on road tax, and fed up of having a clunker sat on the driveway.

Actually, I should include the Octy in that. Make that TWO clunkers sat on the driveway.

Hmm, works van, let make that three shall we.

Little update -

They've sorted the clutch pedal, mounting plate issue apparently. But now I've noticed that the rear nearside door won't unlock without some serious fiddling (even trying to open from the inside, the slug seems to try to push the door card with it) so I guess it's going back yet again.

They'd better figgin' offer me a free courtesy car this time or I'm going to shoot somebody. :wonder:

Oh yeah, and the missus drove it for the first time today too. She was surprised how quick it was (which in turn surprised me since her runaround is a '56 335SE).
