New mods fitted

Featured Replies

Personally I wouldn't want to go anymore than 15mm. They need to be hubcentric and as you rightly said, you need longer bolts. I bought some on ebay as recommended by 'sprout99' in a previous post. There are plenty on there, and they come with the longer bolts. Cost £50 delivered.

great - thanks for the info. Car looks absolutly lovely by the way. Whould have loved a VRS but the scout is far more suited to my job.

  • I know the O.P and he doesn't post all that often. You would serious get a better response starting a new thread to get a wider spread of experience of the forum.

Looks well. Like the wheel colour against the silver.

Good list of mods you've done there too - all compliment each other very well emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Let us know how loud the Miltek is as i'm tempted my self to get a Miltek fitted.

me too..

The catback Milltek is fairly tame by aftermarket exhaust standard. Especially the catback petrol system, mated to the standard cat.

Bit more of a deeper tone at tickover and more of a rumble under acceleration really. Not really noticeable at a constant cruise.

It's a good choice for an everyday system. There's some drive-by videos both on YouTube and their website, for the Octy2.

This is a

to Bens old Mk2 VRS with the Milltek full system and non resonated rear section. Gives an idea of how it sounds.

I can honestly say this is the nicest looking vRS I've seen. Wish I'd seen it before ordering (another) white hatch lol.

Thanks for all the nice comments, really pleased with how its starting to look. Had the milltek cat back fitted today. Haven't had chance to really test it, but its lovely and loud under load and appears to be similar to stock when cruising, which is exactly what I was after. Going to Watford tomorrow to get a mate a Leon Fr so will report back after that.

Here are a few pics that I took before, during and after fitting. They're not great as taken on my phone and it was dark when I got home, but you get the idea.

No not at all, fill yer boots.

Looks good. Should sound quite tasty too. Do like what the Milltek achieves - not shouty but noticeably better than the stock system emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Mine's in at Pipewerx at the moment, getting a custom TDi system made up. Have gone for a similar tailpipe design to the Milltek above. Will post some pics up and a few bits about it when I get it back, hopefully tomorrow. If you're interested in getting something sorted on your L&K emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I like that a lot.

*Update*

As promised just a quick update on the milltek. Just got back from an epic 14 hr - 530 mile trip from Exeter-Watford-Eastborne and then back to Exeter. Went with a mate to look at a Leon Fr in Watford, decided it was a little ropey so went to Eastborne where we bought a 57 plate gunmetal Fr with lots of extras and low miles for £8400. Really nice little car actually but I was amazed how much firmer the standard setup was compared to mine, especially over potholes and speed bumps.

At this time I'm in two minds about the milltek. Looks great and sounds awesome around town/idle and when accelerating hard through the gears, however, it does seem a little 'boomy' on the motorways. Its fine on the flat, but as soon as there is an incline and I have to accelerate gently to keep the speed up, I would describe the sound as loud and quite intrusive. Got used to it after a while but you can always here it in the background and not sure I want to when cruising at 70-80 for several hours at a time.

I'm pretty sure I know what the wifes going to say, so I am now wondering if I should swap out the non-res section for the res? Not sure if it will be too quiet?

On a different note, had a play on the A303 for quite a few miles with a yellow fabia vRS. Followed him for a good few miles and he clearly knew the roads very well. Was well chuffed with the handling mods. The car felt sooooo planted in the bends especially having adjusted the RARB to the hardest setting. He turned off at Honiton and put on his hazards when I flashed him, I assume he is a member on here?

Nice update review. Bit of an epic bedding in session!

I'd maybe give it a few more weeks and miles (depending on how many you do) - just to see if it needs to bed in further. Perhaps as the exhausts 'cokes up' the resonance and tone will alter for you? Worth a go I think, before you think about having it altered.

I had a resonanted miltek on my previous vRS and that was boomy at first but then it improved.

I'm haveing the non-res fitted next week as the resonated imo was too quiet..

Cheers.

Went to pick up my old exhaust from Volkscraft and whilst I was there, I spoke to Phil at Milltek and discussed the issue I was having. I know its early days but I have decided to swap the centre section to the resonated version. Milltek have agreed to swap and I will only pay the difference. I know the noise will change somewhat, but I'm pretty certain that the drone/booming noise I currently have isnt going to disappear. Most of the long journeys I do are with the wife and two young kids and they make enough noise without them shouting over the exhaust!

I think this makes sense in the long term as I do intend to get the downpipe and sports cat in the future and this in itself will bring more noise. Hopefully I can keep the nice cruising capabilities of the vRS and also have a little more noise when blatting it about by myself. Fingers crossed anyway. Should be fitted by Monday or Tuesday, so will be back with another update then.

Ah well, good luck with it

Good point too, if your longer term aim is an uprated downpipe and cat. And it still needs to remain as a family wagon :)

Hi, did Phil at Miltek give any opinion? I think its rather concerning that Miltek advertise a product at some cost for it to be not satisfactory considering how much R & D is supposedly put into their products!

Cheers

Had a non-res cat back Miltek fitted this week and can confirm that it is very boomy!! I dont know how anyone could cope with it! I'm going to have to have the centre swapped for the resonted box..

Cheers

Wonder if this is some issue with the TSi unit? Been in Milltek-equipped TFSi Octavias and not noticed any 'boominess'. And I'm pretty picky when it comes to aftermarket exhausts....

Hmmm - puzzling :S

A developement today.. I've had my fitter check the exhaust and the joint from the cat to the centre pipe was blowing! so this obviously contributing to the boominess esp on acceleration and after adjustment and checking all 3 joints

I can now say the exhust is much better, still a little boom when accelerating between 2k and 3k..

On the motorway today I took it throught the gears and found that at 5k in 4th no deep drone/boom at all, just a really sweet sound.

Dont want to have to constantly drive at 5k revs though, not with fuel at the current price! ;)

So, to sum up, I'm keeping the exhaust as non res for the time being.

Cheers

Good to hear.

Suppose you want a bit of acceleration noise at those sorts of revs. What you don't want is a drone at constant revs, on a motorway - for hour on hour :smirk:

Quick update on the milltek. Had the res section fitted today and very happy with the results. Lovely and quiet when cruising but louder on acceleration than stock. Maybe a touch quieter than I would have liked but so much nicer than the boomy non-res. Also, I thought I was imagining things when I had the milltek fitted as I was sure the car was slower at high revs, seemed to have a flat spot around 5k rpm. Since ive had it changed though, it is definitely quicker and pulls right to the red line with no flat spot. Strange as I thought the non-res would be higher flow buy it was certainly causing an issue or sorts!

Also, now in possession of a full set of R32 brakes which have been stripped ready to be powder coated. Just can't decide on red or black?

Red.
