Tyres on a Fabia MK II Vrs....................

Featured Replies

I have not much confidence in the Tyres fitted to the Wife's New Fabia Vrs (MKII)

The tyre pressures seem a little high 3.4 Bar according to the fuel filler cap. What pressures do you run yours at?.

The ride is rather hard, I assume it's the Low profiles

Tyres fitted are 207/40/17 Dunlop Maxx Sports. Anyone have different tyres or what you recommend

Mine are Continental Sport Contact 2 - Pressure on the label behind the fuel flap says 2.5/2.4 front/rear with 3 people.

Will have to check the actual tyre pressure to see what they have been set at.

Check reviews at this site :-

Just checked mine - 2.7 front and 2.6 rear

3.4 bar is very high, just a fraction over 50 psi. i am fairly certain that this is completely wrong. 2.5 bar, at 35 psi is far more normal and would be what i was expecting.

Edited by Auric Goldfinger

No problem !

At least it made me check my tyres - might even buy a new gauge !

Sorry just to confirm am i reading this write that the vRS is coming out the factory with 2 different makes of tyres ? Maybe i mis read ? I always thought mfg stuck to one brand or model of tyre for that car ?

Again sorry if i am missing something. Didn't check what i had when I picked it up but will do later his week.

they use whatever tyres are available (top brands) mine are conti contact 2's....

215/40/17 are the sizez fitted to the polo GTI and the ibiza cupra, only the vRS has the 205/40/17's, at that profile they are always going to be a hard ride, its what you would expect from a hot hatch! my pressures are 2.5bar..

Mine came with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx fitted as standard, inflated to the pressures on the fuel cap.

They seem fairly decent to me emoticon-0148-yes.gif

The 40 profile on the Mk2 is bound to be harsh, so I'm having to think carefully about a replacement for my Fabia VRS Mk1 which is on 45's. I really would like something with a quieter ride. Would it be possible to fit 50 profiles on the VRS or would that incur insurance wrath?

Seating comfort is important for both of us and also need easy access for SWMBO who suffers with back problems. Possibly have to go for an Octy and add sports seats. Looked at a Renault Scenic diesel. Superb access but couldn't stomach the idea of sailing about in a van with windows (lol).

Cheers,

Clive

They are Dunlop Maxx's!!

Mine were crap on the Octavia...just replaced two after 7500 miles for Toyo Proxes

The ones on the Fabia are Maxx GT's ....great grip in the dry but shocking wear rate!!

I have high hopes for the Dunlop Maxx's on the Fabia when I take the winter tyres off...We shall see

Mine too

Mine came with Conti Sport Contact 2.

I have the standard wheels, are people who have dunlops fitted as standard got the optional wheels??

nope I'm continental, and I have the white wheels on my green vRS :)

mine like stu VRS has the black wheels. Not sure if thats just coincidence tho

The Continentals (mainly Sport Contacts) have aced all the tyre tests for the past few years. The only close contender has been the Goodyear Eagle F1s. Dunlop and Michelin always trail behind, but still way ahead of any of the cheap Chinese makes.

Shame they are the older Sport Contact 2's as these are quite an old design now. They have been replaced by the sport contact 3, Skoda must be getting them cheap as they are still fitting the 2's to the Octavia vRS and Fabia vRS

My VRS is running on the Dunlops and I have to say I'll be glad to see the back of them when they go as I can kick in the traction control in 3rd with them on and its not a great feeling.

Auric have a look at this thread i started. Im already looking into alternative tyres as im not happy about it coming with dunlops because they a are crap

the rainsports are very good, id also highly reccommend vredestein ultrac sessantas. The one tyre i wouldn't whole heartedly recommend against though is the toyo T1R. diabolical tyre.

I have Rainsports all round on my Octavia Vrs Awesome!

Definitely a tyre i would consider. The vreds have increased in price quite alot since they're popularity went through the roof

heres a quote from the thread i started to save guys having to swap threads

not sure if anyone will have checked yet with it being such a new car, but the availability of top end performance tyres in the standard 205/40R17 sizes are very limited.

Now you can change the aspect ratio and width of the tyre within limits provided that the new rolling radius is within 2.5% of the OEM spec.

heres some potential sizes you could fit

Tyre code Diameter Circumference Difference

---------- -------- ------------- ----------

205/40 R17 596 mm 1872 mm 0 % OEM

215/35 R17 582 mm 1828 mm -2.27 % 7" rim required minimum

225/35 R17 589 mm 1850 mm -1.09 % 7.5" rim required minimum

235/35 R17 596 mm 1872 mm 0.08 % 8" wide rim required minimum

195/40 R17 588 mm 1847 mm -1.34 % 6.5" minimum

215/40 R17 604 mm 1898 mm 1.34 % 7" minimum

195/45 R17 607 mm 1907 mm 1.93 % 6.5" minimum

however you need to consider the width of the standard rim when you do this which is 7Jx17" 205/40 R17 7 ET41.

So 195, 205 and 215 width tyres will all fit the standard width alloys on the vRS, but you will need to specify the correct aspect ratio from above to ensure you rolling radius isn't increased, otherwise your speedo will be incorrect.

Hope that helps

Checked today and have continental sport contact 2's. I presume these are okay.

Came from bridgestones on my rx8 which were excellent in the dry but only average in the wet.

They seem fairly good. Road noise is not too bad. Had to pull out of a junction quickly today - good grip , not much wheel slip.

The road had quite a few sharp bends and the Contis held the road very well.

considering Sport continental 3 and 5's are deemed their performance tyre.

The sport continental 5's are meant to be very good. They are the michelin PS2 or Eagle F1 alternative.

the contis are generally very good, just expect them to fail at 3 mill left (as is the law in Germany, they are german tyres) not 1.5 like in England... its almost as if all the clever silica compounds thay give the grip are not in the tread after 3 mill! ;)
