215 40 17 or 205 40 17 on 17" spiders --> fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

just goin to buy 4 tyres for my spyders 17",

need advaice about tyres which ones to choose,

I heard 215 ar too wide and rub arches on full lock? or not?

or I should buy 205 for the front and 215 for rear?

dont know, need help guys,

also I seen photos on spyders Fabia looks so high and needs to be lowered?

thanks for any help, hope I put topic in right place

I run 215's and am pretty low on coilovers, rubs on full lock, but nothing major.

Matt

The 215's look quite fat on the relatively narrow Octavia Spider rim. 205's are a better fit, but the 215 gives you a lot of rim protection.

I have 215s on mine and they're doing just fine and look good to

on spiders as they're only 7 inch wide 205/40/17's will be ideal....

on the likes of s3 avus wheels / audi tt comps these are 7.5" and look better with 215/40's

+1 for the 205/40/17. You getting budget, middle or premium range tyres?

dont get budget FFS!!

dont get budget FFS!!

+1 learn from my mistakes! Lol

And yes to getting it lowered. I put Weitec Hicon GTs on mine. They're a great job.

Hmm

still not sure,

extra rim protection would be great as gunna to paint them anthracite colour especially when wife drives it lol

but also dont want rubbing issuses

About tyres I was thinkin Toyo proxes, Yoki Parada's or Falkens 912 so middle range or Uniroyal rainsport

Yokohama parada's are great. Most responsive & the smoothest tyres I've ever used.

BUT... They wear down quick and constantly look bald looking at them side on. :giggle:

Heard paradas dont grip well on wet,

so far I see 205 ar more popular/recommended

...

Do the 215 give more side wall flex?

On my S3 wheels I actually found 205's felt more like they were flexing. However the spiders are .5j wider.

As for prada's, my mate has had the on all winter, had no issues so can't be that bad in the wet.

Without wanting to hijack the thread, I've also heard Paradas are useless in the wet. Anyone else got experience of them?

I have Parada's on the rear and with RARB coilies and every strut brace going still strugle to get lift off oversteer wet or dry and except from toyo R888's theyre the best looking tread pattern going at around £130 a pair on ebay!

205/40 is closer to the rolling radius of the original 16" wheels. 215/40 is going to give 2.2% extra rolling radius, and marginally bigger sidewalls, so a bit more long-legged, and i guess a bit more comfort. Not sure you'd be able to tell the difference though.

I run parada's 215/40/17's, i found the 215 was better then the 205 felt like u had more grip and generally felt better to drive then with 205

I have Yoko Parada Spec 2's in 205/40/17 and they are fine.

So finally bought my tyres, but problem is I bought 2 set 215's and 205's :)

and still dont know which ones to choose, 215 or 205 :)

can anyone help with that

I got:

1. Yokohama Parada spec 2 (215 40 17)

2. Toyo Proxes T1R (205 40 17)

I going to put one of them on tomorrow but question is, which ones?

:)

Spec 2 rears T1R's fronts? :giggle:

could do that but what about grip/traction? would that be ok to mix with sizes and makes?

 Its probably not the best idea if you have 2 full sets. I would personally go for the spec 2's first, assuming spec 2's will last between 10-20k. You should hit near winter time so T1R's are better wet weather than spec 2's iirc. Why 2 sets if you dont mind me asking..?

Answering your other question, yes! they will look a bit off the ground with spiders! Im getting Eibach springs on mine but I've seen a few others go for coilovers, flavour of the month is JOM @ ~£200. :)

Parada's here too 205/40/17's all round on octy spiders and they seem to be good in the wet emoticon-0103-cool.gif
