Octavia 1.4 TSI owners please

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Currently have an 02 plate 1.8TDCI Focus, but want something a little bigger. Am on the verge of signing up for the new petrol 1.4 TSI.

Have test driven both and found the petrol much closer to the current Focus than the 1.6 oil burning Skoda.

But need to ask the age old question of "what mpg can i expect to see".

I cover 12K per year over a good mix. My motor way travelling is done at non peak times so can travel at 75 to 85 max all day long over 100 miles or so.

Urban stuff is a mix of alsorts.

Am currently tank to tank testing the oil burning focus to see what i get as have not checked it for years.

I am a realist - and am not expecting to see the same as the focus 45 urban upto high 50s on a long motor way run at say 75/80 mph ish, but having said that i do not want any nasty suprises. There is getting close to official skoda figures and not so close. I am sure you will all understand.

Is there any where in the Yorkshire area i can hire one for the day to give it a real good test and work out a figure for my self ??

Any help on this topic will be mch appreciated, the VAT offer certainly pays for alot of petrol but idealy would like to try and use some of the saving to pay for the car itself.

Hope to see you out on the road in a Skoda in the future.

Regards,

Stephen.

Yorkshire.

Any good dealer can let you take out a TSI, might not be a 1.4, not sure I want a 1.4 in a heavy car like a Octy. Maybe a 1.8 is better??

If fuel economy is a major factor in buying a new car why not also consider the new Octavia 1.2 turbo petrol, slightly better mpg and lower co2. Its available in 'S' and 'SE' versions and is about £500 less than the 1.4T.

105hp is fine for an Octavia, we regularly use my wife's Focus 1.6 diesel with 'only' 90hp for trips to Edinburgh

I reckon you'll get around 40 to 42 on the motorway at those sort of speeds, around 30 in town.

I had the 1.9pd before I got the 1.4tsi and averaged 43 to 44 (maxidot readings) over what was mostly short stop/start urban driving - longer trips got 50 to 60. The 1.4 tsi after 3 months is averaging 35 to 36 in same circumstances. Both figures are very close to Skoda's claimed Urban figures, so they're consistent.

1.4 is fine for the Octy, have been 4 up with full luggage load and its managed fine.

I reckon to get the combined figure for a petrol engine the way I drive. If you exceed that, well and good.

Thanks for the replies guys, please keep them coming.

Thinking of asking the local dealer to rent me one for the weekend, will be able to get some realistic figures for myself then.

Do not mind paying to rent if he will knock rental cost off the new vehicle, if i do not sign up for a new vehicle then he can keep the rental money, he cant loose then.

As i said i am not expecting diesel engine MPG figures but do not want to walk into a petrol car blind and be very dissapointed by what i experiance. I also do not want to have to constantly change and adapt my driving style just to get an MPG i can live with.

By the way interms of loading the car, it is the estate iam looking at but all though the stuff i need to get into the back is large it has no real weight to it so the vehicle will never be struggling from that point of view.

Thanks,

Stephen

Why not go for the 1.8 TSi.

I love mine to bits loads of room and plenty of power on tap.

I do around 1000 miles a week of mixed driving with a lead foot and im getting around 36-38 mpg.

On a steady run 65-70mhp ish I can see around 47 mpg on the trip.

Also dont forget the petrol is cheaper to service and the fuel is cheaper.
