Quiet Tyres for a non-vRS Pre-FL?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Sorry to post this, because its probably asked alot. I did do asearch bust most come back on vRS' and I don't need the grip or price tag etc that a vRS needs.

I am basically after a decent hard/long wearing and grippy tyre for my 1.9TDI PD 2005 Octy estate, but above all it must be quiet!

What do people suggest?

It currently has BF Goodrichs upfront and Falkens on the rear. I hate the Goodrichs on the front, as they spin up at the slightest bit of rain and they're bloody noisy. The Falkens seem ok though.

TIA

Craig

They all start of quiet for the first few thousand miles/kms but do get louder as they wear, I used to always replace with original brand which was Bridgestones but switched to Michelin Premacys last time which seem a bit quieter (205/55X16)

I've got Vredestein Sporttrac 3's on my 4x4 and they are definitely quieter than the OE Dunlop SP01's. I've also got Vredestein Hitrac's on the Fabia which are quiet as well.

I've been using Conti Premium Contact 2 (steel wheels) and they're fairly quiet

I found the Conti PC2 pretty quiet and the Michelin are usually quite good too.

Tests don't always agree thought and I'd say it's pretty subjective as different people are annoyed by different frequencies.

Apparently all tyre company's must make quieter tyres from this year on, cannot find the legislation but it came from the EU

The tyre place I've been going to for years recommends Kumho KH11's, are they any good and does anyone have any experience of them on an Octy?

You can't really have both hard wearing and grippy. The two don't really go hand-in-hand.

Have a look on http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk which will give you some information on the tyres available in the size you need, and give some information about grip levels, noise etc.
