Gap insurance

Featured Replies

Hi,

After picking my new motor up today the dealer offered me Gap insurance for £399 quickly dropping to £349 as I shook my head, this was for RTI and was valid for 3 years. I declined and have been looking on line and found this company http://www.car2cover.co.uk/ , anybody had any dealings with them? Having looked at their policies I quite fancy the Vehicle Replacement Insurance, I was quoted online £301 for £20000 claim over 4 years (£15000 was £295). It also includes theft of vehicle where keys obtained from property, what do you guys think?

Thanks in advance

Doesn't seem too bad. try click4gap or ala.co.uk.

How much was the car as i wouldn't have thought you need £20k limit as this limit is the amount they will pay to make up the difference. EG if you pay £20k for your car and 2 years down the line its written off and you get offered £12k by the insurers the GAP cover will give you £8k.

ala.co.uk seemed about the best when I looked into GAP insurance. I just got RTI rather than VR though

Yep , I used "ala.co" to get my gap insurance - easy to use website. You only have 45days from registration to apply.

I worked out the cost of buying a new Fabia vRS taking into account the recent price increases and the fact that 20% VAT

will after April be applied.

I went for the total vehicle replacement and up to £10,000 worth of cover.

Really good job I saw this thread actually.

Been meaning to purchase GAP insurance for a while, and click4gap's RTI insurance is valid for after 3 months after purchase date (it is RTV insurance after 3 months)...what's my purchase date I hear you say? None other than the 2nd December (3 months to the date!)

Very lucky I saw this actually, £128 total for 3 years up to £10,000 claim limit, using 'First700' discount code.

For some reason though, the website wouldn't let me purchase the excess buster additional cover, will ring them tomorrow to see if I can get it added on.

With my car on the way I was thinking about GAP insurance. I want to get quotes so I know if dealers offer is the right policy and a good price or not.

I have just looked and there are various types and I'm unsure which is the right one accounting for the 20% discount VAT deal.

Ignoring inflation and assuming no deals in say 18mths time an identical specification car will cost around £2700 more than my invoice value.

If I took out a policy and was unlucky and had a claim I would not want to have to fork out around £2700 on top of combined insurance payouts to buy another new car of nearest to identical specification.

Hence all advice will be appreciated.

When I bought my Passat (£25k) last July VW wanted £500 for Gap, I told the sales manager I'd let him know.

I found a comparable online quote for top spec GAP cover for £240, rang VW dealer to tell them I'd be buying online and he agreed to match the price without me even asking.

So maybe worth getting the best quote then having another go at the dealers.

Cheers

Lee

Return to value/Vehicle Replacement then for you, same as me as mine would cost nearly £6k more than i paid for it.
