Mintex Discs & Pads

Featured Replies

Hi, i'm at the point where my VRS is desperately needing new discs and pads on the front. I've seen a seller on ebay doing Mintex Fr Discs and Pads for £78 and a few pennies which I thought was pretty reasonable. Does anyone have any experience of running these on there VRS, and are they any good for that price?

Also is there only one variation in fitment of discs and pads on the VRS for the whole age range? I just want to be certain they will fit.

Thanks

Marc

If I did not use EBC pads, I would fit Mintex or Ferodo. My local garage found a problem with the OEM front pads on my mother's car (1.9TDI) and replaced them with Mintex. We have had no problems with them.

As far as I know, the vRS uses the same pads for all years. However, sometimes you get 2 choices, ones with and ones without pad wear sensors. The vRS does not use wear sensors anyway, so all you do is cut the wires off.

I replaced all 4 of SWMBO's discs & pads on her MK5 Golf over 12 months ago with Mintex items, they still are faultless.

I always used to use Mintex pads on the rally car as well

Thanks guys - seems positive then. Does £78 seem a good price? If so then i'll probably get some ordered later.

Cheers

It might be worth looking on Mintex.com and finding out the part numbers, I did this for the Golf and got the whole lot (4 discs and pads) for IIRC about £110/£120 this was from 3 separate ebay sellers and included around £20 for postage!

The Golf rear pads were twice the price than the same pad (and part number) for a Peugeot!

Mintex are among the best brake pads and discs you can buy. I used them on the rear of my VRS and one year on, still no edge corrosion like the OEM stuff.

I got that exact set as the one in question.

Got mine off eBay.

Mintex pads are great! Stopping distance much improved.

Drilled/grooves discs look bloody cool through the alloys too!

Not scared of water neither.

Would there be a huge difference in these in comparison of going to the more expensive 312 upgrade?

Really?

I brought some mintex discs and pad through ebay and have had nothing but problem since I've had them. In fact i've ordered some decent standard disc and pads to go on next week, to replace the mintex rubbish I brought.

Probably not Mintex, there is a lot of fake tat sold on flee bay. I would NEVER buy brake parts from anyone, other than a known parts factor, or dealer.

That was my first thought as well.

How could you have nothing but problems with discs & pads?? What could go wrong with even budgets, they've all still been put through tests to be made safe & road legal.

What's to go wrong. Discs on, anti slip on back of pads, pads on the right way, Done.

Oh no! We've gone from great answers to bad ones :( I've ordered these now so will hope for the best after reading the positives. I never even thought that people would make 'fake' brake discs?! The seller seems genuine enough with lots of sales and good feedback - the only bad feedback I read was on a couple of lengthy delivery times - nothing bad about the goods. It also states that they buy direct from Mintex so hopefully that will be the case. I'll report back once they arrive and when I've had someone fit them.

Thanks for all the replies.

Marc

Discs will be fine.

The Mintex pads box will have a silver seal on them if they're genuine.

Don't worry about it, they'll be fine.

There'll always be some one out there who's had problems with some thing.

Well I ordered these on Wednesday night and they turned up today, so great service! Boxes sealed with holograms etc. so all looks good :) Can't wait to get them fitted now after what seems like an eternity of driving with cr@p brakes!

Cheers

Looking at the eBay add in your post I don't think your discs are mintex, just your pads (it says they machine them from blanks and can be pretty much any brand). I just have plain mintex discs not grooved or anything. Hopefully I won't get any squeal as they should be pretty well matched. Will let you know once I have them on.

Discs are discs!

It's the quality of the pads that gives good braking.

Drilled/grooved whatever, they are just there to cool the brakes etc and looking good.

Like I said, some one will have a problem with some thing, even if it's made by bloody NASA.

Unless your doing heavy track day or drive it like a flaming looney, then look into it, but for everyday driving, discs will be fine.

Enjoy your brake set!

Just don't forget to put ample anti-slip on other wise they'll vibrate/squeak etc.
