I like the look of the Scout and so far, very impressed with my VRS.

What are the Scouts like on diesel? We are getting 45 - 48mpg on average (tankfull to tankfull) with the VRS.

I take it there is a 140HP version of the Scout now or is it still the 105HP?

All diesel Scouts have a 140 engine - latest models have the CR engine while earlier ones had the PD engine. If there ever was a 105hp engine it's news to me. My 2.0PD engine gets about 39 mpg overall (I don't get many motorway miles) and a fair bit more than that whenever I do go on a long run.

The great news is that good feeling doesn't go away. I've has mine since Sept 2010 and still look forward to long journeys in it. I really like the 4x4 traction, ground clearance, comfort and the fact that you rarely see another on the road. It's a great car and almost unknown. The CR engine is a fair bit more economical - it's easy to get an indicated 48 mpg and with care 50+ is possible.

Here's a pic of mine having fun in German Alps last week on 16" winter rims.

Looks nice - may I ask by what route you got your 16" wheels? I presume you got proper winter rubber on them? Did you use one of these online ordering companies or go through Skoda or somewhere independent?

No i ordered steel rims when i ordered the car so they are oem Skoda with silly plastic hubs. I'm sure you can find decent steel rims on Ebay.

Then i put some winter Continental TS830 205/55 16, and man were they good, ice, snow anything any speed, did much better then a Audi Q7 on Kumho winters and a C-class 4matic on a few occasion on icy uphill around ski centers.

Anyone know if/when the tsi will get an auto box as my wife has a forester and won't entertain a manual anymore.
