Used 1.4TSI SE

Featured Replies

A rare 1.4TSI SE 2011 (60) has popped up on the used site and if the spec is to be believed (no photo to confirm) reasonably good value too.

My link

Add claims it has xenons, columbus, auto dim mirror, spare and silver rails in metallic steel grey, all for 16.5k

The only odd thing is the 16" alloy wheels statement :wonder:

Oh I'm also beginning to wonder whether there's the first sign of a downward trend in used prices; some of the highly overpriced examples that have not moved are now coming down in price. One I believe has had 2.5k sliced off the screen price. Some of the new realises are now below list or at list, rather than well above. Not to say though that there are still many with an eye watering price tag.

I would imagine due to the unusual spec its a customer cancelled order, and they would have had to put down a hefty deposit presumably now lost.

On my order with what I think are normal extras my dealer wanted and got £1000 deposit, think he would have wanted 2k for that spec.

Still a very nice car though.

A photo is now available and indeed it appears to be as described bar the fact it's on standard 17" Dolomite alloys.

A good buy for anyone wanting a good spec 2wd without the wait. Dealer also appears to have a Elegance 110 2wd with Sunroof and park assist.

There is also a 1.4 SE ex-demo on pantwaenskoda.com, all by itself on the second page of their used cars section. Looks quite nice, don't know how the price compares with the other one.

My question is which is rarer, the 1.4 Yeti, or a review of one?

Why?!?! Hopefully to buy another Yeti?!

Why? :'(

It's just that i've yet to see a review of one. I'm interested in a 1.4 over a 1.2, but is the extra spend worth it or should i spend the money on a 1.2 in elegance spec?

You can never ever have too much power... Get the most you can afford.

This is the wya I think too - which is also why I'm not still undecided to go Yeti or Fabia vRS estate route - both roughly the same price give or take options. (I can't take advantage of VAT deal as cannot order until later in the summer). I like the refinement and equipment and versatility of the Yeti, but am a boy racer at heart.

I guess this refines my question a bit - how much do you really notice the extra few BHP of the 1.4 over the 1.2 in such a heavy car? I have driven the 1.2 with both manual and DSG boxes - very impressed at the pull, but I was working the car quite hard to extract the fun - it's torquey but the delivery isn't endless.

0-60 in over 12 seconds........ that is very, VERY slow (in my book anyway). The 1,4's 0-60 is 10,5 and my 140 DSG is 10,2.... So basically the same and my car is no slouch. But the 1,2 DSG I test drove had to be nailed to get it to do anything. Sometimes cars are slow but don't feel it (my Audi A2 TDI for one) but others just feel slow and I'm afriad the 1,2 felt slow to me.

As to Fabia Estate or Yeti. It is subjective I know but the Fabia is one weird looking beast. Way too narrow for its height making any wheel combination look under-tyred and gawky. Your Yeti will be far more unique and is the purer execution of its intended concept too.

"purer execution of its intended conecpt" - a beautiful phrase and I know exactly what you mean. The vRS Fabia has grown on me enormously though, and I think the proportions of the estate version suit the car much better.

As for uniqueness, I'm wondering how swamped the roads will be with them once the cars start getting to dealers which were ordered after the Top Gear feature...

That is the joy of the Yeti, even the 140 diesel. No-one expects it to be quite so rapid or to handle so well. I've embarrased a few BMW drivers!!

12 seconds is fine for everyday use in my book.

I've never had to use full throttle for anything more than a second to get it moving in our Yeti 1.2 DSG.

Mind you, I am a sedate driver. The Greenline II, Morris and Defender are all slower than that and don't feel slow to me as it's how you drive them.

As for Yeti or Fabia Estate... both works for us.

Yeti is a great family car, Fabia is a great work hack getting over 70mpg.

At the moment I'll be coming from a Citroen C4 1.6 petrol which allegedly is about 10 seconds to 60, but feels like half an hour. Add to that the deeply horrible engine note (car feels like its straining on the limit at above 2000rpm and you have a car which feels seriously lacking. Some of the things that overtake me you wouldn't believe. Coming from a Megane RS the C4 leaves me very frustrated.

@ James, I'll pm you.

Re the 1.4, yes, you can definitely feel more grunt than in the 1.2, you just don't have to make the engine work that hard to make decent progress. Its got a reasonable response if you want to open the taps a bit, plus a remap solution for the double locked ecu is just around the corner ( see Shark for that one), if you feel so inclined.

Given the choice of 1.2 or 1.4 again, I'd go for the 1.4 its just more relaxing for me. I would have liked a 1.8 or even 140 TDi, but couldn't afford it.

I don't go that mad in the Yeti, as I have another car for that, but its a very nice overall package with elegance trim and 1.4. I considered a VRS Fabia as well, but the driving position, presence of the Yeti and its equipment levels won out. The Yeti is a very comfy place to be.

Thankyou, that was a wonderful reply and has really answered my question. Now, let's see if i can stretch to elegance spec...

If you're interested, mine definitely has to go, so will be put up for sale very soon. Its as new and I'll throw in a full set of Continental Winter tyres on 16" alloys as well!

Loadswine you never said why?! Are you not happy with your Yeti? emoticon-0106-crying.gif
