Electric Windows Not Working

Featured Replies

Both front windows on my fabia vrs have stopped working. I have tested with a multimeter and there is voltage going into the motor, but it makes no sounds, and there is no movement. Am i right in thinking that it is the motor that is at fault, and would itn prevent both windows from working?

Thanks in advance.

If both front windows are not working I would be surprised if both motors had failed at the same time. Where did you test for the voltage going to the motors?

is the passenger window working from the passenger switch?, if it is then it can only be the drivers side switch or the drivers side motor which has givin up,now the drivers side motor controls all the electrics in the door area, so it could b a case of trying a switch first then if not a motor.... theres no need to b going wasting time checking voltage, no need for it atall, load of horse crap!!!

No the passenger window is not working at all, from either switch. I tested the voltage going into the motor at the red wire going into the block connector. In light of this do you have any more info?

Thanks for the replies.

try a drivers side motor as it controls most of the door electics

You can reset the window function by putting the key into the drivers door lock, turn clockwise and hold in that position, the windows should go down, then turn the key anti clockwise and hold and the windows should go up. the windows should now work off the buttons

I think...................

Have tried this reset option, with no luck.

I think i will go for changing the motor and see how this goes. Thanks for the replies guys.

Hi Taff,

I had exactly the same fault as you describe. Cured mine (eventually) when I replaced the drivers door motor.

I opened up the defective motor afterwards hoping there might be something obvious and repairable in there, but there's a printed circuit board inside that looks pretty advanced i.e. not the sort of thing you could repair with a soldering iron and multimeter. Lots of chips and other leggy components on there doing who-knows-what ?

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Cheers Tuscan, i have changed the motor today and it seems to work fine. Hopefully it will work permanently now...

Glad you're sorted out. Bloomin' inconvenient without working windows isn't it?

I'm able to go into multi storey carparks again without the assistance of a passenger to grab the ticket at the barrier !

:giggle:
