Just picked up my (second) fabia vRS.

They have Federal tyres on them and in slightly greasy conditions, I was wheel spinning even in third gear.

Slightly better when warmed up.

Now I realise these aren't exactly the best tyres and I can't defeat the laws of physics.

I'd be interested to hear from those with a remap as to which tyres they find have the grip to cope with the power / torque in all conditions, (but esp in greasy conditions) as this would be a good surrogate marker as to which tyres would be easily able to cope with a standard power output.

I've just come from an Octavia vRS with Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres which had good grip but very poor wear.

Just drive within the car/tyres limits. Spend £80 a corner you`ll get some decent tyres, but they`ll still spin up even standard power if you cant driver properly.

Telling me to spend £80 a tyre isn't helpful. I'm looking for first hand experience of particular tyres.

I've always found Continentals good. As you say, budget tyres lose grip much more quickly resulting in either wheelspin or the early onset of understeer.

I still have my winter tyres on, and with low temperatures I have found them far more grippy than any summer tyre (anything below 7 degrees gives them the advantage).

Tyres are very subjective and depend a great deal on driving style. I've got Enduro Runway 6000 on the Moggy, they have done 15,000 miles and worn 1mm back and front (rear wheel drive), it's a dry weather car and just as well, they are horrendous in the wet due to load spread on a hard compound (tyres are 185/R14 on minilite alloys.) The VRS is currently running Arrowspeed and they are not bad, but not great either. Made by Goodyear for Kwak Fut.

Very few (if any) performance tyres will wear well if pushed. Forgot to mention Michelin Pilot 3 which wears very well, but are ultra noisy when part worn. Premium tyre though, about £111 a corner fully fitted. Mid range, the P Zero Nero is hard to beat, but wears quickly.

I have never spun my wheels in 3rd gear, dry or wet. As you say Federal are crap! Try driving the car a bit gentler or buy some decent tyres as mentioned above.

So i go and do all the leg work for you finding the various posts to help you answer you question, and you still have an attitude problem? I had some **** poor linglong tyres on my fabia, with a remap, and still manage to pull away without spinning the wheels in wet conditions. A remap doesnt make a previous good tyre poor, it just means if your having issues wheel spinning still maybe its your driving technique that needs work?

As matt has said, Tyres on this section are a common thread topic. I have said before we should create a definitive thread and possibly make it a sticky (pinned) one. People now may mention something about kittens being shot because you haven't searched.

The three most common tyres people use are:

Toyo Proxes T1-R,

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3

Uniroyal Rainsport 2

I've had both the Goodyears and Toyos and on Monday going to order a pair of Rainsprt 2 to try.

Lol, for what its worth after all that, Uniroyal Rainsports cope with 200bhp pretty well for me, great in the wet too (as the name suggests). Or for a more summer tyre, yoko prada`s worked well too. :thumbup:

Cheers, seems the Rainsports and Pirellis are a similar price, may lean towards the Rainsports as it's wet weather grip I value most.

No worries, I`v just bought another pair, since its ****ing it down most of the time here figures it makes more sense, they do seem to kick up a bit more spray than others too, which as a bonus helps with tailgaters :giggle:
