Yeti Options Question

Featured Replies

I am about to order a Yeti (whoohoo) to replace the trusty Superb.

However, the Skoda UK site is a bit ambiguous with its options list - it shows Silver roof bars as a cost option, but doesn't show black bars as std on the SE I'm looking at. Surely it comes with roof bars?

Is the multi-function radio and bluetooth control steering wheel worth getting (I suppose the question is the bluetooth any good - controlling from the wheel is a bonus).

Does anyone know whether other wheels can be used on the Greenlines, or doe sis muck something up - they are all fitted with "special" wheels, which I take to be lightweight, rather than a different size?

Parking sensors - are rear std, front and rear an option, or is the only option for front and rear?

I am also thinking of Tyre Pressure monitor (given no spare on the Greenline), rough road package (but I thought I read somewhere on another thread that this was to become std?) and Towbar prep (you never know!).

Any thoughts, or answers to my queries are welcomed.

I'm also thinking Pacific Blue, because Mrs PDIBK likes the darker colour and I like the cheaper cost for other options! Red is a new one on her radar though!

Hi Black roof bars are standard as are rear parking sensors, I have front and park assist, nice but not essential. I also have TPM, RRP and tow prep, all 'just in case' and three spoke wheel because I liked the look.

Are you looking for a Greenline Yeti?

I haven't sold any of those yet...... :smirk:

I prefer the Yeti in Corrida Red or Candy White to the Pacific Blue out of the non-metallics, not sure why but I think it is simply because the Yeti can pull off bright colours well. Or go crazy and order an Orange one, they look awesome!

I have an SE Yeti:

Black roof rails are standard

Bluetooth. Personally I have a Parrot device which I move from car to car. Much cheaper but built in is neater. Personal choice needed.

The standard steering wheel already controls the radio so I don't see the point of paying more.

Rear sensors are standard and work really well. You can see the front very clearly so personally I would not pay extra for those.

If you don't put your car in a garage then I would think strongly about the Heated Front Screen, not available when I got my Yeti.

If you are getting a 4 x 4 version then get the Off Road button. It gives extra security in the snow and is inexpensive.

Enjoy!

Bluetooth is a must as are front parking sensors. My car has Park Assist to get me automatically into tight spots. But to get out you won't believe how usefull front sensors are. I will never want to be without them again. The TPM is a no brainer as it is so cheap and it will be mandatory in all new cars soon.

As to colour: just remember dark colours are a pain to keep clean AND they have a white basecoat and thus any and all scratches show up white. Red is the most invisible colour in the colour frequency spectrum so make your own mind up about how safe that will be to drive... Go for white if you must have a solid colour.

Red is the only way to go!!!

Red is the only way to go!!!

+1 Think it looks much better in red (or white) than any of the mettalics, and its cheaper

I thought white was the only way to go...........emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I have Bluetooth/multifunction steering wheel (elegance spec) and it works flawlessly with the iPhone.

I use park assist regularly, and like 900000 would struggle without it, having been 'boxed' in by 2 lovely (not) people.

Black roof rails are standard. can't see the point in black and silver roof rails to give them their correct name.

I have the rep and glad because of the debris on our roads, let alone for using off road.

TPM cheap so went for it.

I also have tobar prep. need to sort out towbar soon.

The wheels on the greenline I want!emoticon-0136-giggle.gif, but not the tyres which are energy saving tyres. Don't think you can have different wheels on the greenline.

Whatever you order, you will like it.

Mike

There is also Sat Nav, the sunroof and Sound Upgrade if you want to part with the cash.

Both very good options. Use Columbus every day and the sound system is awesome.

Get an Elegance, then you don't need to worry about options ;)

I am about to order a Yeti (whoohoo) to replace the trusty Superb.

However, the Skoda UK site is a bit ambiguous with its options list - it shows Silver roof bars as a cost option, but doesn't show black bars as std on the SE I'm looking at. Surely it comes with roof bars?

Black roof bars are standard on all models. Personally think the silver rails suite the darker colours.

Is the multi-function radio and bluetooth control steering wheel worth getting (I suppose the question is the bluetooth any good - controlling from the wheel is a bonus).

Depends on how often you use a phone while driving. Rarely use a mobile myself so the kit in my new Elegance with be fairly redundant.

Does anyone know whether other wheels can be used on the Greenlines, or doe sis muck something up - they are all fitted with "special" wheels, which I take to be lightweight, rather than a different size?

There is no factory fit alternative to the standard wheels. However there not special lightweight as suggested in the brochure, just lighter because there 16" rims with smaller 205/55 R16 tyres. The Moon alloy as fitted to the SE and Elegance Greenline II is a very common fit to the Ambition spec in Europe but with 215/60 R16 tyres.

Parking sensors - are rear std, front and rear an option, or is the only option for front and rear?

Standard rear for SE and Elegance with an option for front or park assist. Have opted for the front sensors this time round having not had them on my first Yeti.

I am also thinking of Tyre Pressure monitor (given no spare on the Greenline), rough road package (but I thought I read somewhere on another thread that this was to become std?) and Towbar prep (you never know!).

Personally think the TPM is worth having as is the RRP, albeit one aspect of the kit is now standard and another bit has been deleted. The standard noise insulation cover underneath is a bit flimsy and not as well secured. Thought about the Towprep but as I'm unlikely to use it and the options list is already far longer than envisaged I left it off.

Any thoughts, or answers to my queries are welcomed.

I'm also thinking Pacific Blue, because Mrs PDIBK likes the darker colour and I like the cheaper cost for other options! Red is a new one on her radar though!

My first was Corrida Red and I really liked the colour, however the new one is to be Tibetan (Candy) White B) My wife has a Pacific blue Fabia which looks great although having seen a Yeti in the colour I think the red or white are the better choices personally.

Hope that's of help,

TP

Thanks guys for all the responses - a few feedback bites from me:

- Tangerine Orange - I say yes, but I doubt Mrs PDI will. I like the red and there is one in the showroom, so she may fall in love with that when test driving the silver one they have.

- I looked at Elegance, but I don't seem to gain many (in any) of the things I am looking to spec as options on the SE with the Elegance, soI'd gain some superfluous stuff (leather, better stereo etc), but not the bits I want!

- 4x4 - nope. Even if I wasn't going Greenline, then I wouldn't hamstring myself with what seems to be shocking economy by having the 4x4 option and when will I use it? Never - didn't have a problem in the snow in my Rover or SUPERb a few weeks ago...

- Mrs PDI uses phone alot on her commute, so the Bluetooth function looks attractive. As the wheel with that control is an option, but not std, I'll have to go for it to get bluetooth? OR not? Maybe Bluetooth is there, just not controlled through the wheel? Anyone know?

- Satnav/sound upgrade just seems to add so much cost for somethinig I can live without - TomTom has never let me down and I survive in the SUPERb with the base stereo (Bolero?), so I'll live. 6CD changer might sneak onto the list, but TBH, with iPod connectivity (even if it is only through the Aux jack) I'll be happy for most journeys. Anything really long and I have the long-haired co-pilot to operate tuneage!

Belive to get the same level of built in hands free bluetooth on an SE as there is with the Elegance, then you will need this option;

4-spoke multi-function steering wheel for radio

and telephone with Bluetooth® † £283.33 £56.67 £340.00

Cheaper after market kits but built-in is nice on a new motor.

Thanks TP - I figured that, so good to be backed up (reassuring me I'm not losing it...).

so far looks to be:

Yeti Greenline II 1.6 TDI in Tangerine/Red/Pacific Blue/any other colour Mrs PDI decides she likes, but probably not the one I want.

Multi-function steering wheel, radio and telephone control

Rough road kit

Towbar prep

TPM

Park assist (why not - no excuse from Mrs PDI about taller cars being hard to park...)

Maybe add:

Xenons/light assist pack. Does anyone have any feedback/opinion on std lights - any good? I've never noticed the Superb lights being naff, but model to model can differ.

If you're going to go for the bi-xenons (which are brilliant) then you really should consider the Elegance which has the multi-function steering wheel and telephone standard and the bluetooth, and the bi-xenons with AFS as standard equipment. Plus it has other nice things like heated seats and leather interior, more seat adjustment, automatic lights and wipers amongst other things. Plus it will hold its value better in years to come if it's an Elegance.

As for the options, TPM is useful, Park Assist is a very neat option, the rough road pack is only really useful if you intend to take the car on rough terrain.

Bluetooth only comes as standard from the Elegance spec and higher. It is a £340 option on the SE. The only change to the steering wheel is that one of the buttons has its function changed to the phone (a multi function wheel is standard on the SE).

As to the archaic 6 disk CD changer in the boot: really save your money and just buy lots of SD cards and/or an MP3 player to plug into the AUX in socket. Remember that the Bolero comes standard with a front loading 6 disk CD changer. It "eats" the CDs one by one through the single CD slot and it can play MP3 files from CDs too. So to fit 12 old fashioned audio CDs to a car with what 120 songs in total is a bit daft when you can fit more tracks than that on ONE SD card! Unless of course you want to fit 12 CDs with MP3 files on, but still. Really not worth it.

Also remember that when you get the Bluetooth for the phone you will also be able to stream music via Bluetooth from something like an iPhone.

Towbar prep

You sure about this one? On the many, many threads on here about towbars it seemed to me the conclusion was it was just a hinderence come fitting time and a waste of money that you then have to fork out again come fitting time (I remember a thread were someone quoted that the difference in the with and without prep price was £50! So he lost out come towbar fitting time). The dealer/towbar fitter has all the tools to fit the rear hatch afterwards and do the software upgrade. All you don't get is the upgraded cooling fan. But then the usefulness of that depends on how much and what you are going to tow.

I would like electric seats (THE thing I miss from my Octavia L&K days, pre-Superb), so it may sneak up to Elegance, but I think some of the other things I will be looking to add will still need to be added to Elegance. I'll look again to be sure.

As for tow bar prep, I assumed (there we go again...) that if you didn't do it, it would be a pain if you did choose to fit later, but if that's not the case (and 900000, I bow to your far superior knowledge), that's £170 not spent!

Are you changing the Superb or the Citroen for the Yeti? If Superb, which one have you got?

Right:

SE, £18,325 plus Steering wheel/Bluetooth, Lumbar support, Rough rd package, TPM and Front assist OR Park assist = £19355 OR £19550.

Because of the differing things you can spec to an Elegance and the bits you get:

Elegance, £20185 plus elec seats (not avail on SE, even if I spec leather), rough rd, TPM and P/A or Front sensors = £21310 or £21505.

So it would be £2k more to get what I would add to the SE (only get the Bluetooth on Elegance, other added options are extra again) and I still need to add what I would add to an SE. Then I add £525 for electric seats (too much temptation).

Financially, I suspect the decision may be to take the hit on leather, better stereo and a few other nice to haves, just spec up the SE with what I need/want, as I would have to add all but one to the Elegance anyway.

don't forget the xenons which are absolutely brilliant. I just love the way they 'go round' corners. Some people have reported that the standard halogen headlights are not very good, so some owners have fitted the +100% bulbs, which helps, but in my humble opinion the xenons are soooooooo much better.

Bendy lights rule. emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

PS the extra £2k gives you over £3k of extra's over the SE

Edited by rockhopper

Plus a used Yeti Elegance in years to come will be worth part of that £2k more than an SE....

Mike is right the headlamps on the Elegance are brilliant. Plus if you do any miles per year on the continent you can switch to LHD headlamps from inside the Yeti from the cockpit.

James @ Allams - sorry I missed the question about what I was changing - it will be the SUPERb for a Yeti. I have an 09 Greenline. Make me an offer ;)

I also updated my profile, as I realised the crapbox (Xsara) went a long time ago and I have a Rover 75 as "the other car". It is currently stranded 75 miles away, having conked out last weekend and I have to rescue it tomorrow...

I understand the logic of buying a trim level up to get more later and getting £3k of options for £2k, but if I wouldn't have added those options to the SE, I am spending £2k for nothing (i.e. spending £2k to get an extra £2k later = nil gain).

Point taken on headlights - that may swing it - I discounted it again as an option, but if I argue the case, then I save money by not specing those...hmmmm

PS the extra £2k gives you over £3k of extra's over the SE

But also probably don't add 2k to the resale price. ;)

Obviously the Elegance is better, but if you don't need the extras the SE is a great car at a more competative price.

We went for the SE because we really didn't want a leather interior. 16k for an auto Yeti with extras! Bargain! B)
