Sooty!...

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have noticed in the last few weeks that the soot from the rear of my vrs seems to be getting worse..

It is at its worst just as you put your foot down before boost kicks in at 2000 rpm it then goes away and comes back as you hit the higher revs..

The only thing i can think of is that it is due a service (the marker came on the other day) and upon changing the lights the other day i found a bit of black oily gunk behind there...could that be the problem?

I know even the standard vrs creates a bit of soot due to the boost i suppose but it is most noticeable at night when other cars are behind me (i can see it in the lights)

Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers

behind the lights would be the intercooler hose, you possibly have a loose clip and is seeping the gunk from the boost hoses, altho a small amount is nothing to worry about. if its alot it would be worth replacing the clip and cleaning out the intercooler and pipes

It certainly looks like it has been there a while, be interesting to see if the performance improves if it is a loose clip as it will be most likely letting out boost pressure!

do a search via google, you will soon establish whats normal and what nots

i (touch wood) dont have any gunk on mine apart from the lower intercooler connection

I had the same problem when I first got my car.

It was down to one of the pipes being half off as the crappy clips had broken.
