Another step closer to a Yeti...

Featured Replies

Saturday was a good day. My wedding anniversary, test drove the Yeti with Mrs PDIBK, got clearance to go Elegance (because the one we drove was and she liked it), got semi-clearance for a decent colour (I was looking at non-metallic, but the red was a no, the white always has been and the blue is a bit...dull?) and then went to a country inn to escape PDI Jnrs (we left them with Nanna and Grandad - fear not).

So, it would appear that I can order sometime soon a Yeti Elegance with TPM and Rough Road and that's about all I need (well - boot mat and floor mats, but they're dealer fit, n'est pas?).

That leaves colour. Mrs PDI didn't mind the red (there was one in the showroom), but would prefer another colour. I like tangerine, but expect that to add to the predicted 6 month wait. Blue/Green/Black metallics are possible. The white and blue flats were discounted. Silver got a thumbs down, as did Rosso Brunello, moccachino (or whatever it is) and the lighter colours...

Is there a good way of determining colours, as the configurator is difficult, the brochure is unreliable (apparently) and tiny pics and you never see the colours you want...

Thanks DDS - sadly the first one's pics are blocked to me at work. The second link was good, but is a Skoda site with diddy pics (and not all colours shown). The other links don't seem to show all the colours.

I am thinking pearl black, as I think it will be mean.

Tangerine looks a bit like russet brown to me in pics I have seen.

I think some old wives' tale about green cars being unlucky may kaibosh the amazon green.

Metallic blue (storm?) is an option...

Purely from a design point of view I think the Yeti's most distinctive feature (apart from the Rolls Royce fog lights) is the shark fin that makes the B-pillar. And with black A-pillars the front windscreen wraps around to form a "sunvisor". The same happens at the back. (See my signature icon). Thus this shark fin gets accentuated. The darker the Yeti's colour the less you see of this feature. All personal taste I know but I think lighter colours suit this design element better. (They also show the dirt less).

Again personal choice but this is why I love my Steel Grey:

  • it changes colour depending on the clouds: grey when it is cloudy and a blue colour when the sky is blue
  • it won't show scratches as much as dark colours since the white base coat does not show up so much
  • it hides dirt well and does not look dirty
  • it shows the B-pillar off nicely
  • it looks classy - wheras something like Tangerine can't really be called that.

my current car is steel grey, very boring and depressing, does look nice when washed, but when dirty looks probably the worst of any colour car ive ever had.

Thats why I went for the tangerine orange with my yeti, when the sun catches it, it looks amazing (seen one while out and about), we wanted a change from the boring dull colours and thought a bit of excitement and wow factor was needed in our next colour.

A lot of people will disuade you from choosing tangerine, but id say go for it, its a cert people will notice it when it drives by rather than most of the other colours, I cant wait for mine

Johann - I can't see your sig pic - work blocked again. If it is darker than it looks on the Skoda site, then I would be interested in that. Our Superb is Briiliant Silver, so anything between that and Black Magic would be great - I'm hoping it looks like the BMW dark grey that so many seem to be these days.

You haven't mentioned Muscavado as a colour - beautiful with Gobi interior. It's a good compromise between light and dark. We previously had a Capuccino Octy Scout, and I found the colour a tad anaemic: Muscavado is much more what I imagined Capuccino might be. Looks glorious in the sun (a gleaming gold tint) and still quite bright when dull. Light enough to see the B pillar effect and not to show dirt too badly.

"BMW dark grey"...erm.. lovely. I can actually feel the depreciation from here. :(

Hot off the press - Mrs PDI prefers the Black - top of the list...

The Yeti definitely works well with lighter colours and it was either Candy White or Steel Grey for us. The MY12 will be have two further colour options, Lava Blue and Malachite Green.

Muscovado also my second choice now. I love that gold sheen it has in the sun. A very classy colour that stands out without, well, standing out!

As Yeti colours are often shared by Fabias, Roomsters and Octavias, you can see what they look like in real life on those cars as well.

There's a Tangerine Fabia near me that looks great, and that's convinced me to go for a Tangerine Yeti later in the year (there's a good pic at http://davehutchinson.zenfolio.com/img/s8/v12/p1014047246.jpg.)

Chris :)

I really want to see an Tangerine Yeti, I haven't seen one in the flesh yet!

I think we saw a Muscovado (interesting name - duck or some sort of coffee sugar?) car at the dealer - not convinced.

In fact, I think our Superb was supposed to be that colour before they hit me with a 3 month delay and I demanded a suitable replacement - got anonyomous silver instead...

I like the idea of a bronze/brown, but still not convinced about brown cars. I was arguing how cool they look (as I had ordered one), but then the problem went away and we ended up with blandsville silver.

I don't think I want to hang on for MY12, given the delay in delivery dates any way - itmay push the Yeti into 2012, rahter than this year.

I have Aqua Blue, blue in one light, silver in another. A bit non descript really but it hides the dirt and scratches brilliantly. I have seen a Tangerine Yeti and it looks more copper than Tangerine, more subtle than Tango. I like it however and would have gone for it had it been around when I got mine. The black looks great but it will show every scratch.

Yeah - I hear everyone's concerns on scratches - but I haven't seen any on my (admittedly silver) Superb in 18 months. I will probably get it life guarded or something to help protect the paint.

We have the red and we love it.

Nice bright cheerful colour that offsets the black pillars and sunset glass very well.

Also makes the most of the overall styling as the car has a slightly quirky look and a bright colour helps it stand out.

I have seen Silver and dark blue (non metallic) Yetis about and they blend into other traffic a lot more than ours.

Not that this is a neural opinion of course, as we have a red one.

Extra bonus: saves you about £450 over the cost of metallic paint.

Yes - the non-metallic cost saver.

At least with Skoda they do offer you non-metallic options, rather than slapping a paint cost on every order...

I can't swing the Red - Mrs PDI thinks red is normally verboten on a car (not sure why, just a fire engine thing - white cars become abulances and police cars) but did admit it was OK on the Yeti.

We rationalised our options list and spent the imaginary difference on more colours instead!

I've seen the Yeti in most colours now, looks good in all of them. Whatever you choose will be great. My Storm Blue really sparkles in the sun - when its clean.

Andy

When I placed my order it was cappucino then changed to muscovado but finally went with rosso brunello, still not sure if that was the correct choice

.My dealer has a storm blue elegance in,not an colour I would have considered but I must admit it looks good.

i have had my black one for 14 months now i love the colour. my new one will be black as well

Get Muscovado I have ! Aqua Blue and Steel Grey are fab too. White and Tangerine are for the braver Yeti lovers and look great. Not so keen on black (never owned a black car and everyone else loves them............ :S

I like black cars, but Mrs PDI prevented the superb being black as she thought it would look like a limo!! What's wrong with that?

Black Yeti, apply red strip down side and some p-i-m-p mag wheels and I'll be dreaming of the a-team (just without a sliding door)!!

I was actually thinking about ordering a Yeti to 'dress up' the other day.

Was going to order a Black one with a red stripe so it'll be the A-Team Van or a Red one with a white stripe to make it the Starsky and Hutch car....

I must be very sad.

Incidentally, there is nowhere to put this separately - loving the Vision D concept at Geneva.
