HELP - Redituning Boxes

Featured Replies

Yeah thats what I plan on doing' date=' dont know if you saw my other thread, but I am pretty much decided that I'll add a strut brace, uprate the brake pads and fluid, go for the cupra intake and get a digital tuning box.

Perhaps you should try a strut brace - many people do say it gives them more confidence to drive hard, although I cant say I have had that problem ;)[/quote']

Excuse my ignorance, i have a 110 TDI, which as far as i can tell has exactly the same brakes and suspension as the 130 PD. Can you tell me a bit about the strut brace, i assume this goes in the rear of the car. Is it different to the cross bracing on the vRS Octys?

Also, how much, how easy is it to fit, and what difference will i notice??

Sorry to hassle you pbirkett, but i assume you have done your homework already.

Thanks in advance

Hi mate,

The front strut brace basically bolts on to the top of the supension struts within the engine bay. There are rear strut braces too but how they fit I am not sure. To add to that, there are lower strut braces (front + rear) presumably which bolt on to the underside of the car.

If you fit a front strut brace it will stop the chassis from flexing, you should get more feedback through the steering wheel and quicker steering responses, from what I gather anyway as I havent fitted it yet.

My car is the Fabia so I dont know anything about the Octavia strut brace(s) so maybe another member can help you with that.

seriously thinking of ordering one??? what are the differences between analogue and digital boxes?? how are digital better?

I'm not 100% sure on this by any stretch of the imagination... but I think the cheaper ones fool the ECU into overfuelling (with the possibility of causing ECU error codes) and the better ones (i.e. digital) actually change it properly without fooling the ECU (no chance of error codes).... of course I could be totally and utterly wrong about this, so feel free to correct me anyone.

Sounds about right, AFAIK. The analogue uses a resistor to fool the temperature sensor into thinking its too cold, and hence overfuelling. Crude but effective. The digital one is .... better. I really don't know why, but i think it is more sensitive, and contains a microprocessor, which alters the amount of fuelling depending on the revs/ loading. I.e. it won't over fuel all the time like the analogue box.

I used to have a digital box, then bought an analogue (for the new car), but thinking of changing back to a digital.
