Have you got a boost surge after a re-map?

Featured Replies

I take your point about psi, but my 007P was brand new & Revo were quite clear that they had come across this issue of hesitation & surging with uprated DV's & the 007P in particular. I certainly wasn't losing 20bhp boost as the car was mapped with the 007P fitted on Westecs rolling road & averaged 203bhp over 5 runs, only 4bhp under what Revo state for stage 1. N.B. Westecs RR wasn't renowned for being over generous with bhp figures. Oddly after returning with the OEM DV fitted it averaged 204bhp.

  • I've had several different maps on my many VAG 1.8T's & the only 2 that didn't surge were Revo, & ECU-Evolution. A note of interest is that when I had my mkiv Anniversary Revo'd it did surge s

+1 for OEM dump valve

I had a compbrake one fitted but it felt a bit sluggish and didnt hold the boost very well. I since changed it back for my standard OEM valve and its alot nicer to drive and holds the boost better than the compbrake one according to my boost gauge anyway.

I had boost surge on my Shark map, but since repairing a couple of breaks in the coil pack loom, it has improved it quite a lot, so once i've fitted my new loom hopefully this problem should be solvedemoticon-0148-yes.gif

Update on this. My surging has been a hardware problem rather than software, including the changes above, I have just removed SAI, N249, N112, fitted a catch can, my Octy is now running loads better, the N112 or N249 must have been on the way out, i used to get a clicking noise accelerating under load, but this noise has now gone, holding boost better, just need to replace my loom, all them joins can't be good for getting a good spark. I'm running a forge valve car feels better than with O.E valve.

If you have problems with surging it's probably worth checking everything i've mentioned above or checking with VAGCOM to see what your car is doing and everything is operating as it should.

Think this depends of the map and amount of boost. I run REVO stage 2 and the the Forge DV with yellow spring works well on mine over the std DV. Perhaps the std DV was old so may try a newer one at some point.

Thought I'd touch down back on this for a long awaited update, I sold the car not long after I had the final remap. To be honest it still was not quite right but I am very picky and if someone else drove the car I don't think it would have been picked up. Certainly the new owner was happy. I now have an A4 1.8t Quattro Sport and I won't be getting it mapped following this experience. I think that if the car could have been put on a rolling road it would have been sorted. Hope everyone else has got there's sorted out.

my car surged after remap, i was told it would settle down after 200 miles. i thought it was a load of crap tbh. but after 200 miles it has stopped and boosting well.

Sorry to hear that you still were not happy Ollie. Through map updates and hardware fixes I'm sure that everyone running a Shark map with a "surge" problem has been sorted out, and if they haven't then please contact us of course. As I'm sure you are aware, we've had the dyno at the new premises for coming up to a year now, but I understand that you had visited us a few times and perhaps didn't want to come back for fear of wasting your time.

You won't have the same issue with the A4 1.8T as it doesn't have the same issue within the base software that seems to exacerbate the symptoms.

Mines doesnt surge but peaks at 20psi and holds 16psi

I'll give you a ring tomorrow Ben, will you be in?

Further to my update post I just want to clarify that I did not sell the car because of the map but I needed the cash for something else.

The reason I would probably not get another map is because like any modification there can be unforeseen problems / niggles and for now my cars staying standard. I think this problem was just that, unforeseen and because it was not very common everything else had to be elimated.

Shark have obviously continued to work for a resolve and it looks like everyone on this thread has had it sorted. I think it should be viewed as a positive for them.
