Tyre advice - Accelera Alpha 225/45/ZR17

Featured Replies

In a possible moment of madness I replaced the rear tyres on my car with Accelera Alpha 225/45/ZR17 tyres and am not sure if I have made a mistake.

I have Bridgestone’s on the front and now wish I had paid the extra to have Bridgestone’s on the back too.

Has anyone else got Accelera Alpha tyres fitted and what do you think?

I guess my main question is what tyres do you think are the best for a 2006 Octy vRS used mainly for driving short distances to and from work and the very occasional motorway journey?

Also, if I decide to change the tyres, what do you think I might sell the Accelera Alpha 225/45/ZR17 tyres for considering they are virtually brand new having been used for 500 miles?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

There are many threads about Budget tyres on here. They all basically say, it's best not to skimp on tyres or brakes.

So I'd do what you say. Buy some decent tyres, then sell the budget ones on eBay.

+1

rear tyres are just as important as fronts.

They arent worth a lot as they are not a good tyre am afraid, still put them on ebay, someone will buy them!

I like toyo proxy t1rs, i always tend to get them, however vred ultra sessantas are good too, they get rated really highly in the autocar tyre test second to bridgestone f1s iirc

Toyos are better priced than the other 2 mentioned and last longer than the vreds.

either swap em to the front to wear em out quickly B) , or ditch them, get decent rubber, and learn from your mistake

My 06 Octy vRS came with these fitted all around when I bought it second hand. They are pretty quiet for my daily commute but aren't great during weekend blasts.

Cheers for the comments guys, if the overall opinion was that these tyres were dangerous then I would have swapped them without delay. Even if this was not the case and I could afford it I would still take the most sensible advice, replace the rears with Bridgestones and then sell the Alphas on Ebay to recover as much outlay as possible.

However I can’t really afford to replace them and as they are not dangerous I will take the next most sensible advice, swap them with the fronts and hope they wear out fairly quickly and then swap them for Bridgestones?
