I currently have a citroen picasso 16v 1.6engine on 55plate.....am I going to be dissapointed with the engine on this or am I not going to notice a lot of difference in what I have....dont do a huge milage- 8k a year... there is quite a difference in price to move to the newer engines and not sure I want to splash the extra cash

what are service intervals on these....was getting mixed messages about yearly or variable servicing

I presume that you are off hotukdeals?! This engine will be 8v so have more low down grunt than the 16v but the bhp is nearly the same and you are coming from a Citroen to a Skoda so you will probably love it :giggle:

morning all,

just signed up to this 25% off deal, i'm under no illusions about the 1.6 MPi powerplant which is old technology etc, but all things considered this is still a cracking deal, and i can't wait to take delivery of my new car in a few weeks.

talking to my local dealer where i've bought the car from (MSB Skoda in Darlington) of the 2000 cars available, they are only getting 4 to sell (one of which is mine)

2 of the 4 have got the sat nav option fitted, which immediately adds 1500 onto the previously bargain price and seems like a bit of a silly move to me, i wasn't interested in either of these, so that left me with an Aqua Blue one which i can have in 3 to 4 weeks, or a white one which hasn't got a date against it yet..... i've gone for the blue one.

i'm paying a bit extra for the metallic paint and to get a spare wheel, plus i'm getting mats and mudflaps and that sort of stuff, there's a few things i would have liked - bigger wheels, xenon lights, (a better engine lol) but i'm under no illusion that this was my only chance of having a brand new car and i'm grabbing it with both hands..... maybe in 3 years i'll be trading up to a better spec - the guy who sold me it told me once i'd had a skoda i'd never go back, and the skoda owners i know say much the same to be honest

anyway, i'll report back when i take delivery!

I'm getting mine in about 3 weeks. Arctic green with 16" crateris wheels.

Be good to read your review when you get yours, I'll report back on mine as well.

(ps I gather from your username you are a Sunderland supporter - hope you beat Lpool today, I'm an EFC supporter).

yes thats me

my current picasso is 16v 1.6(I seem to think its about 105bhp but might have made that up) is there going to be a big difference in missing 8v? To be fair to the picasso its been a pretty good car and useful with the kids but would like to get back to a "proper car" now. Used to have an old mondeo and loved that (was quite high spec) but it did drink the petrol as was a 2l

i'd rather have had the arctic green, definitely nicer than the blue, but not to worry. i also think getting 16 inch wheels is a good move but in my case i was right at my spending limit so no extras.

i went to the Sunderland vs Liverpool match today, sorry we couldn't do them over for you!! very poor game, for both sides in my opinion, tho i'll watch match of the day tonight before i pass judgement!

I wasn't really bothered about the wheel size but they said this car had already been manufactured with the 16" crateris wheels on. To be fair to the dealer (Alex Lawrie) they met me half way on the additional cost by giving me an additional £150 part ex allowance on my Focus. Do you think it makes any difference having 16" wheels ?

i think the difference of having 16 inch wheels is purely cosmetic - i just think the 15's look a bit small in the wheelarches on the Octavia, my current renault scenic has 16 inch wheels, the last car i had before that was a suzuki swift and that had 15's which looked good but on a much smaller car.

Dealer just called to say it will be ready for collection next Thursday. Looking forward to it now.

Surely 1.6 8v engine is a bit underpowered for a fairly hefty car.

i have a small fiat panda and its not as economical as my 2.0 fsi Octavia.

As you always have to thrash the wee Panda just to get moving.

Na i would have thought 1.8 would be bare minimum for a car of the Octavia's size

Hobin (Manchester) have several hatchbacks and estates on this offer. Their standard prices for an SE estate is £12,470, but they have some with extras at no extra cost (?). Mine has black pearl paint, 17" Pallas alloys, sports suspension, Maxidot, Amundsen SatNav for the same price - seems a good deal.

Hi. I'm tempted by this. Are there any known problems with this old engine or have all the nasties been sorted.

As you can guess from the screen name my Superb tdi 140 ate Its oil pump causing me huge financial pain. It's fixed now but I no longer trust it and want something with proven reliability.

Ordered one today from Alex Lawrie in Liverpool. They gave me 2.25% new car finance over 3 years, not worth using your own savings with that rate.

I ordered the same model from Alex Laurie in Liverpool as well on Monday, the 28th of March. Ordered the spare wheel. Will have to pay 125 pounds extra to the dealer for that( somebody has posted that it's 50 pounds for factory fit but I wasn't given that option). Three colous were available; have ordered Black Magic pearl effect. Phoned the dealer, the same day in the evening to see if I could have fog lights fitted as an option but he said that this could not be done. Really wanted the foglights as they enhance the appearance of the car. They are giving me 17 inch 'Pallas' alloys free of cost(made up). Am part exchanging my 2 year old Hyundai i30( great car with a great 1.4 l engine) purely because this seemed like a good deal and the Octavia looks better as well. Hope u have got the delivery of ur car and are enjoying driving it. I'm looking forward to getting mine(hopefully next week, the dealer said to phone back on Friday) and running it in...... Are u looking to get aftermarket/ fake fogs for ur car?

That sounds like a good deal especially for an estate. Great colour as well. I have ordered my hatchback in the same colour. Have you got the delivery? Any special running in of the engine ur trying?

I have been told delivery is about two weeks from now and I should get confirmation in the next few days.

Picked it up last Thursday. Done 700 miles including a 400 mile round trip to Somerset last Sunday. It's a lovely smooth and quiet car to drive and the engine output is fine unless you want to be a boy racer. Looks great in Arctic Green. Not really bothered about fogs as I never had them on my Focus but I agree they do improve the look, might get them fitted later on. The sales guy at Alex Lawrie checked the car with me and explained how everything worked in detail when I went to pick it up then introduced me to the service manager who gave me his card and said call if I am worried about anything at all. Hope this great service continues. All in all I am very happy with my purchase.

glad to hear you're liking it, i still don't have a firm date for my car, although it should hopefully be built by now, last Friday i was told it would be here by the end of the month but that was April fools day so who knows :D

my only concern with the delivery date was that the insurance policy on my current car runs out on 18th April, and i didn't want to have to renew it. there's no way my car will be here by then tho, however MSB Skoda in Darlington are lending me a courtesy car to bridge the gap between my insurance running out and delivery of my new motor, so a thumbs up for them B)

as for the car itself, i have to admit, the performance aspect had me worried, i know its going to be a step back from my 1.9 dci 120hp renault, but i'm heartened by your comments.... my boy racer days are long gone, at least they are on 4 wheels, i have a two wheeled vehicle that would whip every vRS on here into shape :D;)

Make that ~3 weeks, although apparantly it is built and at Emden now.

Thanks for the update. Enjoy ur new car. Am still waiting for the delivery. Will be 2 weeks on Monday. Will call Alex Laurie on Monday. They never call me, I have to make all the calls. They were supposed to call me yesterday with an update, but ...nothing...

The dealer phoned this morning. Said that the car is with him and the earliest I could take delivery would be on Wednesday. But I'm picking it up on Thursday evening as I'm busy on Wednesday. Best of luck for yours.

well apparently my new car is now built and en-route to the dealer, although he was absolutely non-commital on where it was and how long it would take to get to him etc - depends how long it takes them to fill the boat and stuff like that... i sensed i was wasting my time pushing the issue

my dealer has however taken delivery of another 1.6 MPi SE now, so at least i can see exactly what it will be like when mine arrives

Got mine a couple of days back. Am enjoying running it in. Done about 170 miles till now. Doing between 2000-3000 rpm. Will go to about 4000 rpm after 200 miles. Skoda recommend about 1000 mile running-in. The 5th gear is tall and it pulls about 3300 rpm at 70 MPH. Should be economical on the motorway. Got mine after 2 and half weeks wait. Hope u get urs soon. What colour have u ordered?

Just saw that u have ordered Aqua Blue colour. Nice colour. The engine is a bit noisy first thing in the morning but doesn't feel short on power.
