The car came from the factory like that, apparently the dealership secured 5 in total, each in a different colour. I also managed to secure quite a few other extras within the price, so overall I'm very happy.

To be honest, the 17" wheels swung it for me. I know what you mean about the fog lights but I must admit that I can't remember the last time I really had the need to switch them on in any of my previous cars! Would be nice if Skoda did a replacement corner grill with DRLs in, like the Octy VRS though

Something like this maybe? http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/OCTAVIA-II/Octavia-II-RS-Facelift-09-12-front-bumper-FULL-SWAP-KIT Nice but at a price.

Just an update on my 1.6mpi - all's going well, done 1700 miles so far and vary rarely try to engage the non existant 6th gear now :giggle:

Done a few modifications since getting it so a few pics

looks good, are the front fogs wired up? how much did it cost you to add them?

Glad to hear others enjoying their MPIs.

I picked up my silver 1.6mpi estate a couple of weeks ago from Bickerton's in Sheffield. They had some in stock (all gone now, I'm told) so I only had to wait a few days. So far I've done 400 miles and averaged 37mpg overall, mainly with town driving. I've noticed that the economy has picked up over the last couple of hundred, so maybe the overal figure will improve. A 20 mile journey today through hilly countryside averaged 48mpg, so with careful driving acceptable economy can be achieved.

Like others, the engine wouldn't have been my choice, but I was prepared to compromise in order to get a great new car at a bargain price.

My previous was an 03 1.9 TDI Elegance, which I loved but it was time to move on.

I am really enjoying this car. The improved rear legroom, the extra boot space, the Bolero radio, the facelift, the improved ride... I could go on.

An annoying thing happened with my insurance, though. I rang up saturday am to change my policy and was told, eventually, there was nothing they could do at that time as they did not have an insurance group for it and the underwriters weren't available over the weekend. Now, if it had been a modified, imported Hummer, I could understand, but a second-from-the-bottom-of-the-range Skoda? Luckily, I had Skoda's complimentary insurance.

Enjoying mine and was very happy when I phoned insurance on Thursday to put it cover.

They said, they will owe me some money back, so I would think it's in quite a low group :)

Thats with Privilege, Direct line's more mature department shall I say !

The fogs are all wired up thanks to Ben@shark performance but unfortunately do not work! Ben was a bit flummoxed cos everything was done as per the wiring diagram and coded correctly. He is doing some "research" and I will re-convene with him shortly to see if he has found a solution. Strange because he coded ch/lh lights for me too but they don't work either!

The lights, wiring & new switch cost around £140 delivered from skodateile.cz, not sure what Bens bit will cost yet.

The wheels were a £265 ebay bargain, they are spotless with good tyres (bar 1x which I replaced).

I get mine on Saturday - bid farewell to my trusty old 1.9TDi Elegance Estate yesterday, but can't wait to get my hands on the new estate in Black Magic - wouldn't have been my first choice of engine either, but for 3 years worry-free motoring how can you go wrong?? My biggest mistake was dismissing the deal when my wife spotted it in the newspaper

Still enjoying the refinement after 10 years in a diesel! Mpg wise we're getting about 34-35 (per the computer) but most of our use is in town..on a run with a fairly full boot I've had 45 mpg..I miss the low down oomph of the diesel, and sometimes feel the 1.6 is a bit of a compromise, but value wise this was hard to beat.

I did contact a dealer about an exchange for a 1.4TSi, but he wanted another £3k as well as my new Octavia, for a car on his forecourt preregistered in March, with a windscreen price of £12,490

Overall it's a good package as long as you don't want fantastic performance or economy..VFM for a brand new car it's fantastic!

As far as I can tell this Octavia 1.6 has the original (or very similar) bullet proof 1.6 8v engine fitted to earlier Octavias (not the fsi)and very early Golfs and many other VAG cars. They were capable of starship mileages and if I remember correctly they were a sort of non-interference engine (in most circumstances!!) - Unless you were driving hard if the cam belt failed you used to stand a chance of simply changing the belt without damage. Don’t hold me to it though things change – like cam profiles!

I think in some European countries they use this engine for an LPG version of the Octavia. It is also a common engine in locations where Petrol is of poor quality.

Hello Friends,

I'm still enjoying my MPI Estate.

Like others here, I bought mine on price alone. Still, it is a lot more comfortable than my Doblo 1.9JTD, which I still have!

For the first time in months, I decided to give it a wash this morning, using the 2 bucket method. Firstly, I gave the bottom edge of the car a clean with a soft brush, getting rid of mucky dirt. Then I washed the car using a lambswool mitt and drying off with a green mitt that soaks up water - I forget what it's called.

By the time I finished, my back was knackered. I've had back trouble since 18 years old. Although I'm 54 now, for almost 6 years, I used to wash a 21 foot motorhome, but using a long handled brush. That used to take me 2-3 hours! You can imagine therefore that the car doesn't get the same effort in washing from start to finish. I decided to do so, because it was mild today, with not much wind.

Another thing I've noticed with my Skoda, is it suffers from internal condensation!! Do any others of you get this? I went for a couple hours work this afternoon, and before I could leave, I had to wait almost 5 minutes from the windscreen to clear, with the air-con at full blast. Is this something I have to live with?

Don't get me wrong - I would still buy another Skoda.

Frank.

Very happy with my MPI still can't believe what I got for the money and 43mpg reading on trip with shorter runs.

Not to many about only ever seen one estate on the road (do we need MPI register)

Know what you mean about condensation but I try to make sure its not blowing to screen for first few minutes as it makes it worse having said that it warms faster on short runs than the diesel I had before.

Cleans up nice and enjoy giving it a wash most weeks great work horse.

I'd noticed a bit of condensation in this cool, damp weather, but then most of the time there are 5 of us in the car. Using the air con it clears from the windscreen fairly quickly, and the front windows, but is harder to shift from the back ones (which is where I need it least to stop small fingers drawing things!!)

Still very happy with mine - for the money I don't believe I could have got better. Sure, I still hanker after more grunt and better mpg (averaging around 35, but almost all our runs are under 10 miles, at peak time with plenty of stop-start) and look at anyone in a vRS with slightly green eyes, but as pointed out above I don't see many of these around!

Black paint looks fab when clean, and overall car is very smart, apart from the (literally) blinking LED sidelights which I need to sort out...not the greatest mod as they go but you live and learn!

Hows it going? I have done about 5000 miles in mine in 11 months since I bought it. 3 Problems I can point out. Rusting of the wheel hubs. The windscreen tends to fog in the winters and mayo on the oil filler cap. Have topped the oil twice in the past year around 200 ml each time.

Frank.

Yes, condensation is a problem on the front and back windscreens but I can live with it. Rust on the wheel hubs doesn't look like either, although the dealer said that its 'normal'. Mayo on the Oil filler cap is more worrying.

How are you guys getting on with your 1.6 MPI's, what sort of mpg are you getting?

My father-in-law is interested in buying a pre reg'ed one.

I get around 42 on the motorway and in the low 30s around town in the 1.6 mpi. Have done around 5000 miles in 11 months.

I didn't get around to get the fogs fitted. Only wanted duds (to improve the looks)

No condensation issues on mine.

Mayo means it isn't been driven hard enough when up to temp as there is too much condensation in the engine which needs a good thrash or a good long run to burn off.

Rusty wheel hubs I haven't had an issue with but I wonder id I have different hubs to non vrs.s as my bora is terrible for them. They went rusty in the first week.

Thanks for that. Hope its nothing more serious. I was a bit depressed by seeing the mayo as I ran in the engine for 1500 miles by driving it between 2000-4000 rpm. Around town I change up at 2000 rpm. The rust shows through the 5 spoke 17inch wheels on mine. It came up within a month, i'd say. I have ordered a new 1.4 Fabia mpi in candy white and am expecting delivery by the end of march. Same deal.......25% off. Was 12 grand, got it for 9 grand. Only available in non-metallics, with choice of white, red or dark blue. Went for the white. Although would have liked one in satin grey.

Hope u guys r enjoying ur 1.6 mpis. I have just ordered a 1.4 mpi Fabia SE to replace a 1.8 petrol Zafira which has been troublesome off late. Chose it over the Polo which felt cramped when I drove it (compared to the Fabia). Wish the plastic surround around the AC controls (on top-middle) of the dashboard on the Fabia was better.
