Changing a radio

Featured Replies

Hi,

Basically I had a different radio to the standard one and it was working fine, I then acquired another radio from my mate - after swapping 2 cables over it worked.. Then it went off so I took it out, saw that the power wire had become dissconnected and reconnected it, Plugged it back in and it didn't work.. After a few hours of mucking about it still wouldn't work so I plugged the original radio back in, exactly as it was before I tried this new one and nothing, that one won't work now.

I checked fuse no 45 and it was fine, But the thing that is confusing me is when I plug my original radio in it flashes blue - like a surge of power and then does nothing.

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas..

Thanks.

Use a Digital volt meter to check the supplies. You should have a permanent live for memory backup in the radio, and an ignition switched 12v live as well.

Tried googling it?

I've Googled it already and couldn't find anything hence why I asked, And it seemed as though MoggyTech knows what he's talking about so I thought he would know "off the cuff" what cables they are.

Thanks.

ISO Blocks are pretty std, but the VAG have the switched and constant swapped over?

My AMAZING google powers!

Congratulations ! :)

I bought a lead off fleabay which you could swap these back so the memory on the head unit would stay when the ignition is off. Some head units have these power switching bullet connections built into the power lead.

Hello,

Thankyou everybody for the replies.

I cant get use of a volt meter till tomorrow so I will try then.

As a side note the thing whats confusing me the most - the radio was working fine the other day (I already have one of them iso block things from ebay to sort out the memory).

Regarding the power surge thing - I cant think of a different way of describing it so I've made a video :)

Thankyou :)

PS the power surge thing is about 0:11

If a positive wire became detached it is possible a fuse has blown. Attach the wires securely, use either a glue-lined heat shrink butt connector or solder and heat shrink (if heat shrink not possible use good quality insulation tape).

I guess the switched live is not working.

Congratulations ! :)
