Warranty issues ..your experiences

Featured Replies

I wonder if if Skoda will ever have the confidence to offer a 5 or 7 year warranty?

They have a 5-year warranty in Norway.

They have a 5-year warranty in Norway.

So why not in the UK??????

So why not in the UK??????

It is a collaboration between the factory, importer and retailers.

Elsie the Helipad is going in on Monday to have a look at the phantom neutral I have had on 3 occasions now when using tiptronic.

Warranty although three years is in fact 2 year manufacture 1 year importer/dealer. I would assume the Norwegian importer is confident enough from its historical record on repairs to offer a three year extension rather than the one we have here. JonA may be able to enlighten us :wonder:

11,700 miles, 8 months of ownership. Boot light doesn't work. Only problem and that is not worth the trip to the dealers. Everything else has been spot on.

If it is the light supplied with the car, (and not one of the super LED versions) the bulb is a poor fit in its holder. I had the same problem before changing to the LED version, just fiddle the bulb until contact is restored.

As previously posted - in my 1 year / 10K with a 1.2 SE I had 3 unscheduled visits to the main dealer, as follows:

* ECU Flashed / interior bulb replaced

* Cam position sensor replaced after ESP failure popped up on the maxidot

* Passenger rear door lock replaced after child locks/central locking failed

These issues were all dealt with promptly by the local main dealer.

I seem to recall being mildly irritated at the time, but didn't form the opinion that the car / brand was fundamentally unreliable.

Of all the cars I've owned (100+) it was a supposedly "bombproof" Lexus that had the most issues with breakdowns / reliability. The car was a 2005 GS300SE with 23K miles. I bought it as a main dealer "used approved car" and in the first 8 months of ownership required warranty repairs totaling £4.5K. From memory the car required x4 replacement wheels, replacement engine ECU & traction control ECU, replacement door mirror and x2 O2 senors. Again these issues were all dealt with promptly by the supplying dealer. I was however left with the impression that this would not be a car to own "out of warranty". The cost of extending the warranty for a further year was just under £1K and it was at this point that I decided I'd head back to the Skoda fold.

The most reliable new car I've owned was probably a 2007 1.9 TDi Roomster2. This only required one visit to the dealer for a recall relating to the Airbag system.

My current Octavia has just been in for a replacement interior door handle and is due back to have the drivers side seat and lumbar adjustment looked at. This was again dealt with promptly and given that the car is only 3 months / 3K miles old, probably represents incorrect assembly at the factory.

In summary I'm happy with Skoda as a brand and have thus far found any issues have been dealt with efficiently.

Had the warranty items (as per original posting) attended to efficiently by dealer which entailed them

raising a VOR order for a wheel bearing (noisy). Fitted next day by helpful dealer.

They did a software update to improve function of steering wheel control buttons..

but what it improves I'm unsure of...They didn't know.

No engine software update available for 2011 1.2Tsi.

My Bolero radio appears to occasionally play up by changing stations on its own,

not changing stations when you touch the screen and refusing to switch off (TIM

screen comes up..Lets hope this sorts itself out and is not a result of the software update.

Anyone else have this problem???

Remaining item is moisture in foglight that comes and goes which I will monitor.

Elsie the Helipad is with the dealer at the moment, sorting out a few niggles:

The false neutral on the DSG box

cruise dropping a couple of mph when going up an incline - not had that happen on any other car before, including my previous Octavia.

Passenger side door mirror indicator lens replaced due to water ingress on Yeti, done same time as foils

Our first Octy back in 2003 had full engine replacement after 2000 miles/4 months following timing belt failure.

I have the same first two cosmetic problems as Kibby - the badge and the chrome-effect cloudiness. They are getting sorted at next (first) service, shortly. I have had no other problem at all, and consider that outstanding compared with many new cars I have owned. I have a friend with a Mitsubishi Animal and can't begin to relate all of the astonishing probelms with that vehicle. A friend with a Honda CR-V 2.2 diesel auto is just about to book it in for the third time to have transmission looked at - and he has had a variety of other problems. I think the old Japanese quality/reliability myth is largely just that - myth - and they are generally now on a par with everyone else.
