Hi

As far as I know - no-one has seen the new vRS - I suspect there will probably be a "Design Study" at the Geneva show which takes place in march so you probably get a better idea then

I spoke to our dealer yesterday. He reckons they have been told to expect prices circa 16k, with a 225 1.8T and an oil burner option.

Seeing as tho the OctyII is so heavily based around the MK5 golf and new A3 I doubt very much they'll use the old 1.8T engine - more likely the 2.0FSi,hopefully in Turbo form with the higher output 2.0PD TDI that is rumoured to be good for around 180bhp and oodles of torque

I would be willing to bet a lot that there will not be two versions of the new RS.

The dealers are often as clueless about the whole thing than we are. My own bet is for a diesel one, having already set a precedent for 'hot' diesels, it may make sense.

I also don't think that VW will be too keen to have an Octy FSi turbo stealing the Golf's thunder, particularly as some magazines already rate the Octy over the Golf.

My tuppence....

Prices arous 16K.............don't know about that.

The Octy II 4x4 using the 105bhp TDi engine is a smigde over 16k, and with the and the petrol turbo version with 150bhp is just under 17K.........

I agree with Huck though - the dealers are often clueless about it till the last minute - I spoke to my local dealer on Friday night about the Octy II 4x4 Estate, and they knew nothing about it other than it coming on sale sometime in October.

Here on Briskoda, we already knew it was March...........

the dealer rang me yesterday morning to tell me they'd just received details of the Octy II 4x4 estate coming on stream for march availability............

Nothing like "official channels"......

I agree Joe, 16k just can't happen for a new vRS.

I think the new vRS will be priced very close if not higher than the new GTi - it will be too much hassle for them to engineer to many engines into this floorplan.

I am holding off selling my octy vrs to see if anything regarding the new vRS appears at the Geneva motorshow in March.

The sports version of a car usually comes along near to the middle or end of the models lifespan, or near to a facelift. Whenever a manufacturer plans a new model, they incorporate facelifts and modifications into the original design, to keep the punters interested in the long term and keep em coming back.

VW have been premature in releasing the GTI near to the start of the model's life as they were receiving so much criticism over the MK IV version and because they were probably excited about the product they had. The hardcore sports model R32/R34 will come along in the middle of the model's lifespan.

I wouldn't be surprised if we had a bit of a wait to come before the Octy vRS is released. All there is at the minute is pure rumour.

When a new model is in production there is always speculation at first with chopped versions in the motoring press. There may be a 'design study' as SkodaW mentioned above Then we see the mules and matt black disguised spy shots of cars circling the 'ring in testing. there are ussually a few winter weather test shots, then the motorshow model is released to the public.

How many test shots or spyshots have we seen of the new Octy vRS?

None.

Unless they have been very closely working with VW on a prototype, and the new vRS is a reskinned Golf GTI with very little changed mechanically, i don't think we'll see it until early 2006. IMHO.

I'm doing something similar...although I do love my octy

yea im with you guys, i seem to be changing my mind everyday, new car, keep octy, new car, keep octy.

i just would like some details on the new one, heres hoping the Geneva motorshow helps out!

According to these pages there's going to be a 147kW 2.0 Litre TFSI

New 2.0 TFSI RS

My money is on it being a diesel only... 170bhp :D
