Tar remover...

Featured Replies

Loads of tar dots all over car , just wondering what's the best product out there to easily remove the tar?

Thanks.

If you can find it Gunk Tar Remover @ £4-6 per can, it also works on tree sap. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I forgot, Autoglym do it too.

Autosmart Tardis. Amazing stuff and only £5 for 500ml on the bay.

Agreed.

Best stuff by miles IMO.

Another Autosmart Tardis fan here

Tardis buy it from your local Autosmart rep, it seriously stinks though but does work.

White spirit. Available cheaply from any DIY shop. Never had any problems using it over the decades.

 +1

cheap and very effective, I've been using it for years too. Dampen a cotton cloth or kitchen roll with it and wipe away the tar.

If you don't have white spirit then WD40 on a cloth is just as good,

Errr looking at the data sheet for the Time Lord's transportation I note the major ingredient is umm white spirit. :giggle:

Tardis will strip the paint off any smart repair as well , so be warned

Its great stuff but treat it with respect

I noticed that another ingredient was xylene - a more aggresive solvent than white spirit in my empirical laboratory experience.

A spray painter mate of mine swears by panel wipe, It's also great at getting grease and oil's of car interior's, and i can vouch for that part he got grease of my old 2002 clio extreme. it had light blue seat centres that got oil/grease on them from a gargage floor when the chucked my locking wheel nut box back in.

Thanks for all the replies, think I'll buy some of the Tardis, but as its really strong stuff don't want to cause any damage to paintwork, how would you apply this? Tiny bit on a damp cloth? Cheers.

Put it into a spray bottle you do not dilute it, spray onto the area needed let it sit around 40-60 secs then wipe with a microfibre once you have done all the areas needed pop the microfibre in the bin do not wash it your washing machine will stink and you will be in the bad books lol.

Also wear gloves.

petrol works a treat

Just spent an hour and a half removing all the tar spots off my white VRS using tardis, it's good stuff.

I tried the white spirit today and it worked a treat, I spent hours yesterday with the bug and tar remover with little effect. Today it took minutes to clean every panel! :D

and there is no effect on the paint when using white spirit?

+1 for petrol, works just as good as any fancy tar remover on th market!

I have always kept a small tin of Ronson lighter fuel (petrol) in the garage. Just the job. Quick squirt on a piece of kitchen roll paper or similar.

Peanut butter, the smooth type, massage it into the tar & the oil in the peanut butter slowly softens it, natural unlike many commercially available products, you can even have a sandwich while you work.

Or if you believe this just leave it on for 24 hours & wipe off http://car.tips.net/Pages/T004753_Removing_Tar_from_Your_Car.html
