new vrs waiting to be shipped

Featured Replies

hi guys,

first time ordered a new car but just wondered if anyone has a rough idea of how long it takes for car to be shipped.

at the moment it is sitting in the german port awaiting to be shipped so wondered how long that roughly should take to get over and delivered?

thanks again

I have just phoned Skoda UK and my car is also sitting at Emden waiting to be shipped.

Dealer has mentioned before that it would be about three weeks after build before I could take delivery but I'd be interested to hear some real-life experience too.

Mine was built in week 10 and left the factory week 11, it is currently line yours waiting to be shipped and I wasn't able to get any more info from them. We are all in the same boat, or not as it may appear! Terrible joke, sorry.

SUK: 08457 745745

Tim, number is as Nicky says.

If you have your order number then that's all they'll need, if not then you'll need your name, dealer you ordered from, car you ordered. I think that's it but there may be some other stuff. Nothing you'll need to look at order forms or anything for, it's all personal information.

I've found them very helpfull to be honest, I'd rather pester them than pester my dealer all the time (he already thinks I'm a pain in the arse :p )

Nicky- indeed, bad joke! :D

Went to order a new Superb Estate at the end of Feb, but always look for already completed builds that haven't been allocated (better value than a completely new build and quicker).

My car was in Emden when I ordered on 1st March, and is just about ready to be picked up from the dealers now, so 3 weeks in this case (just long enough to get excited about having a new car arriving, but short enough for it not to be a tedious wait!)

yeah i called dealer but cant give more info than that, they said they reckon end of march start april but who knows.

i just wondered if anyone else had ordered in the past and had it sitting waiting to be shipped and knew how long it took. say we all just go over and get them ourselves :)

itching to get it. have a fabia courtesy car at moment 1.2 and although it is nice wee car. not really for me.

i bought one that was already built also to save the wait and luckily had the colour and the interior i wanted so happy days.

We're in a similar boat (no pun intended!). Sold the wifes Fabia vRS on Sunday and now have a loan of my father-in-laws Fabia Elegance Estate. As you say, nice enough car, but with just 100bhp it's not exactly a vRS. And it looks soooo boring!

I know it's not skoda but my Mrs ordered a new-shape Fiesta last year, built in Germany. We got a phone call from the dealer to say the car was built and was at Flushing (which, I believe, is in Belgium). Nine days later it was at the dealers in central Scotland.

I think it all depends on the timetables for the big car-carrier boats.

thats good, hope it is 9 days for the vrs then.

is it worth calling and speaking with skoda to get more info direct has anyone found that?

cheers

I've tried and only got what I posted above, I would ask my dealer but that don't like me cause I made a complaint about them.

You could try and get more info, let us know the outcome. I wish I had more patience

  • Author

yeah my patience when waiting on a new toy as not good to be honest :)

anyway just called skoda direct there. customer service guy was nice.

anyway it is sitting at port as i know and usually this takes up to 15 days without building in factors such as weather etc.

so although it is up to 15 days it could leave in next few days who knows. however from there going on 15 days you are talking then another 10 days from it arriving in uk to then coming up to dealers.

so probably looking at a month.

what specs have you guys ordered that are sitting waiting to be shipped?

cheers

Mine is a diesel manual hatch, race blue, Xenons, heated seats, maxidot, Auto Lights pack, rear parking sensors and spare wheel.

nice, i would have liked auto lights, but i ordered one that was already built.

i take it you cant really add auto lights onto it once you get it. are xenons just a case of ordering xenon bulbs off ebay or something and adding them on yourself?

cheers

White petrol with dsg, sensors and spare wheel. Getting powder coated anthracite wheels as well

I can't wait anymore. Can't they fly it here

"proper" xenons are more than just bulbs.

The whole unit is different with auto-levellers and washers also fitted.

You can "aftermarket" fit HID's - however this would be without the levellers and washers.

They are at best a "grey area" with regards their legality at the moment and as the MOT toughens up you could find them on the wrong side of "grey".

If you want Xenon's - factory fit them.

Otherwise buy good quality halogen bulbs.

i have ordered white, manual, petrol with spare wheel, sensors and ful leather. want to get wheels done when it comes here.

i had the dsg in my vw and it is a smooth gearbox, i have had 3 mercs before and the auto was ok but dsg amazing. have it in the load car just now and it is ok once it gets going but getting it to take off at times there is a bit of a delay. reckon it is the power in the engine as vw was not like that.

would have liked the dsg again but could not stand the waiting of a factory build so choose one that was there and built just waiting to be shipped.

if they could register for me from here i would go and collect the thing and drive it back myself.

road trip anyone :)

Mine waited at Emden about a week for a boat to Sheerness. Boats to Grimsby seem more frequent, so may be quicker.

For a bit of fun look here http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/portdetails.aspx?port_id=175

You can watch the big car carriers running between Emden & Grimsby with the VW/Audi/Skoda cars. look foe KESS boats with Highway in their name or the Viking Constanza which came to Sheerness with mine.

Took another few days for transporter to take it to dealer.

My dealer knew when it was loaded onto boat or transporter.

Getting cars from Emden to the UK is a bit of a lottery.

The ships do not run a regular 'timetable' as they are used by other car manufacturers as well.

If your car arrives up from Czech land into Emden and there is a ship going to the UK it might be only be a few days from build of car to arrival in UK, or it could be 3 weeks.

The other main point is where your dealer is determines which port it comes into. If your dealer is in Kent it will not come via Grimsby but Sheerness. I think the other port of entry used is Newcastle. Thats why it can seem that someones new car is built first but arrives after a later build car because the later build car had ship timed right at Emden.

The ships they have to use are small in car carrier terms only about 800 car capacity, the big ocean going ones can hold upto 6000

Small ships have to be used to the UK because the ports can only handle smallish ships, for instance they have to go through a lock at Grimsby

Good info their mate. Mine is coming to Bristol so could be Grimsby or sheerness. Basically we all have to be patient and we aren't!

yeah lets keep each other posted if we can. the waiting is a nightmare :) you know the car is built and ready but cant do anything about it.

just glad it will be here for the good weather starting.

Mine was ordered on 22nd Jan, built on 11th March, and has arrived at the dealers today (23rd March). That's for a vRS hatchback, petrol, manual, in anthracite grey, with full leather, heated seats, parking sensors, maxidot, auto lights/wipers, & spare wheel.

Sounds like I got lucky with getting it from Emden to the UK then!
