Superb estate dilemma

Featured Replies

After about an hour of driving I started to get a pain in the side of my right thigh. This was being caused by the seat base continually pressing into my leg. What I noticed was the seat position is slightly offset to the left of the steering wheel, this means I was sitting slighly over to the right of the seat. My thigh was continually pressing on the seat side support of the base. I tried moving over to the left but after a while of driving, changing gear, pressing the accelerator etc I found myself back over on the right side of the seat base. After a while it became annoying and started to fustrate me. The seat base is only small (at least in comparison to my Vectra) and before you ask Im only a slighlty built guy and could probably do with a little more meat on me if anything.

.....At the moment I dont no what to do. I know the superb is a great car but I also have this issue. How can I get past this problem? How long before the seat beds in? Has anyone had this issue?

If anyone can help me out I would be eternally grateful.

Hi, it does sound odd, I've never heard that before from anyone but re. seat base... I know what you mean that its rather [too] small - I've commented a couple of times on here before & I think so far only one other person somewhere thought similar... now its 3 of us! Lets campaign for bigger seats! Maybe Skoda drivers are all slim, being economic/wise with money and not allowing themselves oversized portions and endless snacks! Is being a Skoda owner a sign of having a healthy lifestyle??? Looks like I'd be bucking that trend! CLocking up the years on the road is clocking up those pounds... hmm probably Kilos :S

I can't help but maybe a thought or two...

1. If you did go for the car just give it a good pounding to soften in up :punch:  possibly? could always get some kids to jump on it for you :giggle:

2. I assume you've messed about with the seat position already but if its the clutch movement that "makes you slide acorss" it could be worth moving the seat forward a little (maybe up too) as this would mean there's more pressure agianst the seat back & less room for manoever... worth a try if you get another go.

In some cars I've noticed discomfort growing but even though I'm tall, I now sit higher & more upright than ever before... its probably better for everything & now I no longer suffer from any discomfort.

A shame you can't just go hop in... will Saturday be spent at the dealers... :giggle:

Regards

Thanks for that sk8tergirl I was beginning to think it was just me. After driving my car today I could easily see the difference between my vectra and the superb "slim" seat. My derriere has lots of room in my vectra but being a slim guy with a cracking rear (my wifes words not me  )means I should fit easily into the superb but to no avail it seems.

The first thing my daughter said to me when I told her about the problem I had was, cant you hit it with a hammer to soften it :o My new car I said!!! Come to think of it "out of the mouths of babes" has never rung more true. I like the way children think. Maybe an option but not quite so harsh im thinking.

I didnt change the seat position to much, but after years of motoring I its amazing how important the seat postion and your posture is to a comfortable driving position. Another visit to the dealer is called for me thinks.

The other thought I had was. The 140 superb I tried was a manual causing me to change gear lots. The car I would be after is a DSG, so maybe I wont have the issue. Now wheres my daughter with that manchester spanner.... :giggle: Can you tell I really want the superb!! Thanks for your help sk8tergirl

The above thread involved the exact same problem, perhaps PM the original poster and ask him if it was ever resolved. As I said there it is always a back problem whether we know about it or not and the OP acknowledged he had a problem. I sold a car due to the exact same issue.

I'm getting mid 40's mpg with a boot full of camera gear. This is with a mix of m-way and urban driving.

I averaged 50mpg recently with a full load and two bikes on towbar mounted rack over a 600 miles trip.

Although it pains me to say it, you'll never want another VX after a Superb, it's got a better engine than the VX, more economical and the car feels so much more, even than an Insignia tbh, and if you want good seats, try a Passat B7 Sport spec, uber economical engines now as well.

As for your seat pains, this is because VAG makes a seat to support, the Vectra one is an old couch, a comfy one I admit, but within a week the VAG seat will pull all your muscles up to spec and the pain will be gone, it's just you're body adjusting to it.
