The thing you love most...

Featured Replies

Bored at work so thought I'd start the opposite of the 'hate-most' thread....

For the record the thing I love most about it is the fantastic noise form the super/turbocharger especially at low revs in higher gear - Whooooosh-hissssss -Haha!! Very addictive :thumbup:B)

What do you guys all 'love' the most....?

+1

The throttle response and that amazing gearbox

I was tempted to start this thread, was getting depressed with the other one! :D

Definately the supercharger and turbo whine :)

Nice to hear somebody saying something good about the gearbox!

When the wife says " which Car would you like today UBR or Bert"

So can you easily hear the whoosh from the supercharger? I've a mini cooper s works and it screams on that. Awesome sound!

Yeah, the charger is pretty noisy, would be even better if VW didn't wrap it in soundproofing!

Ive had a Cooper S and this supercharger is mute compared to it.

In all honesty theres nothing i 'love' about the Golf Cart. I like the car, its a great little package as an all rounder, but its not good enough in any particular area to love it.

At a stretch, i love how cheap it was. Think the gear box is great for changing up, but changes down to slow when braking.

Edit

in fact it does have no lag and good throttle response, which i like.

Value for money

Gearbox, but agree that in auto mode it does not change down enough to give engine breaking and have to do it manually.

Puts a smile on my face on the country roads, when using the paddles or the lever to change gear.

Engine response is excellent.

Pretty good fun car.

Just curious but what motivated you to buy the car in the first place Janner if there is so little about it that floats your boat? Financial, as it was 'cheap'?

I know you plan to modify it at some point but I could never buy a new car if I wasn't at least a little bit passionate about it from the off....

This is supposed to be a positive thread :wonder: :dull:

I love the DSG to much like Chris, Its just so versatile.

the cars i was looking at included

Volvo S60R(300hp)

Mazda 6MPS (260hp)

Vectra VXR (280hp)

Impreza WR1 (330hp)

etc etc so the fabia style hatch wasnt even on the radar. i was after something that was easy to tune above 300hp-350hp on the standard internals

Now im mega into my track days, and have wanted a small point and shoot lightweight hot hatch for a long while after selling my cooper S clubman.

Anyway, over the next 2 years im penciled in to go to afghan, falklands, kenya, canada amongst others, so im away for pretty much most of the next 2 years.

So it was buy something stupid that costs £400 a year to tax, that the wife is to petrified to drive due to its power and size, whilst not even being here to drive it myself, or get something that is ideal for her, and will keep me happy. Happened to be driving past the skoda garage, popped in and asked for a test drive, and we both agreed it was a great interim car that suits our needs.

I also never keep a car longer than 3 years at the absolute most, as i get bored of them.

Dont get me wrong, i think this car has ALOT ofg potential. The octavia vRS when standard isnt very good either, but when i had finished with it i could latch onto focus RS's with no issue, whilst still having room for 4 suit cases. I loved that car after i had sorted it out, but wasnt overly impressed as standard. Same deal with the fabia, and it would be with any car i buy tbh. I purposefully pick faults to see how they can be improved.

The fact that tomorrow, after work, I will be placing an order :D :D :D :D :D :D.... (Provided the dealers open. Still need to phone them! haha!)

Back to thread guys!

The sound from behind (when SWMBO burns off in it!),

The sound from within (Super whine to Turbo howl),

The fact that the electronics cope better with pedal-to-metal starts than with pussy-footing,

The always-in-the-power-band DSG/Supercharge/turbocharge factor,

The fact that the DSG knows pretty well how to up-change and then (wonderful but gradual!) develops how to downchange through experience,

The LED DRL effect on others when pressing on behind them,

The anonymous rear end making following traffic assume you're easy meat until...whine/whoosh/wheredego?

the fact that throughout all the briskoda meets I've been to, no matter what car I've had, I've never been able to keep up with gilly (my friend) in his octy, but at the recent weston meet I overtook him like he was stood still ;) (sorry gilly!)

deceptively fast

If it is one thing I love most about the new RS is the Gigaro alloy wheels. I think they've managed to produce a great design.

Good review mate sums all the best bits up very well!!

Definitely agree regarding the noise - can't hear a thing from the exhaust on the inside (was abit disappointed with this on test-drive tbh) but from outside sounds pretty good, decent growl. Could do with being a touch louder but overall not bad.

Can only rarely hear the superchager whine (unlike cooper S) but the wooshing sound pretty good. My last hot hatch (focus ST) had the best induction noise of any car I've been in so it can't match that, but still very addictive non the less! B)

Got flashed yesterday by some tool who clearly thought my fogs were on.... (or maybe he was flashing his appreciation of such an awesome little motor?!)

Makes alot of sense to economise with the vRS if you are going to be away that much.

With regards to the 'SWMBO-factor' I was also swayed by this to some degree -tbh wasn't that convinced by the DSG to start out with but it appealed to her so we went with it.

Could rarely get SWMBO to drive the focus ST so now we have the furby I can look forward to many more lifts back from the pub :giggle:

Love the looks and the comments I get "ohh it the car from the advert"! The straight line speed & the shock on peoples faces at the traffic lights! Also love the clip on the windscreen for your parking stickers!

Ah yeah, I forgot about the clip!

Cracking idea, saves putting sticky s*it (forgive the terminology) all over the windows!

I laughed at some guy on here who said people kept commenting on how they thought it was a mini, thinking no one could be so retarded. Ive had 3 people mention it to me now.

More people I mention it too are more astounded that you can push so much power from a 1.4 now-a-days (most people I work with are considerably older than myself, so they are used to the same power coming from big hefty engines! :D)

I'm yet to have anyone ask if it is a mini yet :p
