vRS 0 - 100 time?

Featured Replies

that was a joke BTW. Just looked back thru the thread - whats the bhp, and 0-60 of a T5? Cant see it mentioned.

on the face of it i wouldnt imaginge a T5 being quicker than a std scoob in any area. Its all well & good saying that midrange means you/a diesel could pull ahead, but at the end of the day, if it was a race then the petrol car would just change down & blow your doors off, or is a downshift not allowed?

A T5 is 225 hp for a 850

A 850 T5R is 240 bhp (manual)

A 850R 250 (bhp manual)

A 70 series T5 is 240 bhp

A 70 series R is 250 bhp

Changing down a gear doesn't make sense, especially when i am doing 140 - that would be silly.....

i dont see anything in those figures for a standard car, given its weight, that would make it faster than a standard scoob. All depends on which scoob as well given the multitude of different flavours and special editions. Even the top one there is 250 bhp which is not enough more than the 220 in a bogo scoob to get you ahead IMHO. Thow in a P1 STi8 or an RB5 WRsport and you would have no chance.

If i spent the same 5k on a scoob that you sent on that T5 - to keep them 'comparable' then again you would not be ahead.

Dont get me wrong here - I have nothing against diesels so perhapse I am taking this a little of thread, its the claims you make of the T5 i am sceptical about. Its a nice car and well spec'ed but its no rally weapon beater.

What you have to think is that if both cars were running side by side on a track/motorway and you put yer foot dow you would be ahead, but from a standing start by the time you reached 140 you would be too far behind, given that the scoob would reach 140 well ahead of you.

Often the term 'race' is used all over forums like this in an "my x beaat hes Y" context. Its not realy a race tho is it. Its usualy just someone on an ego trip not wanting to let another car past no matter how fast they have to go to stop them.

I see this a lot on the way to and from work and i often 'loose' the race because I am not prepared to at a stupid speed just to get past. The other driver meanwile goes on his forum and claims to have "skalped one of those fancy skodas in a race". Its bull.

Scoobs are a favourite target for these people.

So why are manufacturers figures not correct? i take it them skoda are overly modest and everyone else ambitious...

Legal purposes...manufacturers always state a slightly higher 0-100kmph time to avoid any lawsuits by crazy-minded car enthusiasts who purchase a car and find it is actually slower.

Has anyone actually taken a standard 180 bhp Octavia vRS,raced it up to 100 and timed it?

My father has the new X5 4.4i 320bhp that does 0-100kmph in 7 seconds flat. A friend of mine has the standard Octavia vRS that is pretty damn quick, and it feels faster than the X5 0-100. We times it at about 7 seconds. No less. I mean come on, it was still wheel-spinning at 80 kmph.

shrops_paul

Seriously. I have no idea what you are talking about. Could you fill me in and i will try and answer some of your points !?!?!

Hey guys

any of you know the maximum speeds for Fabia vrs in each gear?

PBIRKETT

Also, who said anything about sprints?

We are all talking about sprints, ur arguing for the sake of arguing, the WHOLE thread if about a certain cars 0-100 ability, not id call that a sprint, uve moved this completely off topic.

I'm going to give up at this stage. Its clear some people can not and will not accept that diesels can have good performance. Ignorance to the highest degree IMHO.

DID I ONCE SAY THAT DIESELS DONT HAVE GOOD PERFORMANCE? NO!

SO IM IGNORANT ALSO? I DRIVE A VRS ON A REGULAR BASIS, SO HOW AM I UNAWARE OF ITS PERFORMANCE,

U HAVE JACKED THIS THREAD FROM THE 0-100 DEBATE, WHICH U LOST AS SOMEONE ELSE TIMED THEIR CAR AND FOUND A FIGURE ROUND ABOUT 20 ODD SECONDS, SO NOW YOU MOVE ONTO FABIA VRS'S IN WHICH IM IGNORANT AS FAR AS THEIR PERFORMANCE GOES, HHHM, I THINK NOT.

volvo t5

and we were sat side by side 20-60 before i started to pull

yes, thats a rolling start, what about your car Vs a remapped VRS 0-100?

ROBMAWER

A single peak torque figure is *not* indicative of how well a car can accelerate - if that peak torque figure is at 2200rpm, you'll spend so much time changing gear that it will be absolutely rubbish for sprints.

exactly!!!!!

Also, regards diesels......I used to have a 205 1.9td, and I shocked quite a few cars in it...even from the lights......the advantage being that people tended to underestimate it. This was however, back in my boy racer days

was this a standard 205? were the turbo diesel ones not 1.8's?

Can we have the same again for the 4X4 please, based on using 7000rpm not 6500rpm as was posted recently?

why not 6500? what is the redline on a vrs?

GTI 2.0 115 ps [MAX = 121 0-60 = 10.2] (120lb/ft ish)

was it really only 10.2? im sure it was 9? maybe im wrong ill need to check

Having one of each, the wife's Fabia just feels quicker than my Octy.More of a shove you along feeling .She isn't bothered about borrowing my car now. She is quite happy with hers.

This is the thing, they do seem much quicker than they are cos of the narrow powerband

Volvo T5 - did your volvo come with a free labrador or to you have to pay extra for them? I cant see them on the options list - i was expecting to see golden, black and chocolate but cant see them anywhere

that lab would still be waving its paw out the back wndow when your crawling to 100 in 20 odd seconds :D

i think they are scoobies arent as torquey as the volvos,

Legal purposes...manufacturers always state a slightly higher 0-100kmph time to avoid any lawsuits by crazy-minded car enthusiasts who purchase a car and find it is actually slower.

so this would have to go for all manufacturers?

SHROPS PAUL<

i think the T5 would easily match a std scooby, bar in 1st, it would get ahead top end i think, my saab (which i just sold today :( ) would also get away from a std scoobie, or sensibly modded 1, except in 1st.

nice to see you have dragged the site down to a chav esq "whats faster" debate... based on bravado and plain comedy.....

well done guys...

take em all on track and sort it once and for all.....

Chris P - did I say it was you? No! But if the cap fits...

was this a standard 205? were the turbo diesel ones not 1.8's?

Yes...my mistake...I believe you're right. It was completely std however, and it still stands that it was a quick car if driven correctly. Though, in fairness, the are made of tin foil, and are pretty light :)

Hope I'm not included in that. :(

Right' date=' speaking from experience:

My old RS was way quicker than my "friend's" current car, even though it has much less torque and only about 50bhp more. Both have identical suspension, both ran the same tyres and yet cross country the RS would kill "his" TDI. OK I'd be working harder in the RS, but for sheer speed the RS wins every time. We can rule out driver as I've driven both on the same routes on the road and the tracks. For example, the RS was nearly 5 seconds per lap quicker than the diesel, round the Ring it was nearly 30 seconds quicker.

As for what the Furby will do, I don't really know and until you get the same driver driving both cars we never will.

In the interests of fairness, at the next trackday could someone please lend me the following cars:

Standard Fabia

Modded Fabia

Standard Octy RS

Modded Octy RS

Civic Type R

Volvo T5R

Ferrari Enzo :D

By modded I mean remap only to keep the variables to a minimum and we can then see which is "quicker". Don't worry anyone who wants to lend me a car, I drive like a granny and won't abuse your car :D Oh and the Enzo? Worth a try :D[/quote']

If you can tame it you're welcome to have a go at mine. It's not that modded, honest. :D

The way I drive, it shouldn't be too much of a handful. I just bimble along, admiring the scenery :D

take em all on track and sort it once and for all.....

I did offer' date=' at the next track day, to drive all the different ones and thereby remove the driver element, but only Des has taken me up so far :( Come on, what you all scared of?

why not 6500? what is the redline on a vrs?

Octy RS redlines at 7

4x4 redlines at 6500

Fabia RS redlines at 5

take em all on track and sort it once and for all.....

Now this sounds like fun :D

Jon you can drive mine anytime aslong as you raise the TAXI driver rev limit from 1600rpm to 4K.

Right then. Chris P + shrops paul. I would like to highlight the fact that your petty mocking is very childish and absolutly unnessasary. But i need to lay this to rest. My Volvo does a 6.2 standing start to 60 mph. A 15 dead standing start to 100 mph and a 19.8 standing start to 120mph and 30 seconds from a standing start to 140 mph. My car is in excess of 300 hp and 310+ lb/ft of torque @ 15psi. it does 30 -50 50-70 70-90 in 2 seconds for each 20 mph midrange pull. If i wanted to make a mess of a Fabia Vrs it wouldn't be a problem. I am not here to talk about my Volvo or indeed point out the obvious performance differences between the cars.

So all my Lab would be doing is trying hard to peel himself off the back window !

VOLVO T5,

i wasnt moking actually, i genuinly like the T5! read the post carefully!

FFELLEN

i dont think it was me who started dragging it down but some of you with the no way does this car do it in 20 odd seconds -REMEMBER, then going onto say that youd easily have a focus ST and youd try to have an uno!

pbirkett

Im sure you did point that comment at me as you qouted my name at the start of the post

Granted re-reading it, I can see why you might have thought that. My apologies, but FTR it wasnt directed at you... ok? :P

volvo t5 "My Volvo does a 6.2 standing start to 60 mph. A 15 dead standing start to 100 mph"

so that would be slower than a standard scoob acording to the evo rag i have in front of me then. 0-60 5.5 sec and 0-100 in 14.5 sec.

THis was already a my car is faster than yours thread when i came into it. I am just sceptical about volvo t5's performance clams. eg: the for sale ad claims over 300 bhp from a tuned std car fom just a remap and a filter! He also quotes a guess of 30% power increase which would be 285bhp not 300. (if he started at 225 for a std car from earlier post).

i dont care and am no doubting its faster than my standard skud. i'm just bored and provocative.

Have any of the following been mentioned yet?

My car is faster than yours

My dad is bigger than your dad

I can wee higher than you

If not, please add them as my contribution :D

darn - knew i'd missed something out :D he he.

Yeah right, and sky in your world is what colour?

Anyway, my willy is bigger than yours :haha:

Well my Nan would have sorted EVERYBODY out ,taken your car keys off you and sent you all to bed:ready2go:
