Squeaky brakes Part 2

Featured Replies

After fitting new front disks and pads some months ago needed to fiddle about to get rid of squeaks, now its started again but only when carrying a passenger seemingly from the left hand front. This is driving me crackers, that and the grey seats, otherwise I love my VRS.

Are the callipers bolted back together tight enough? The slight bit looseness would cause squeaky vibration even though they feel tight.

Is the passenger a mouse perchance?

Jack car up, gearbox in neutral, turn each front wheel, this will tell you which one! If it also feels stiff to turn and the sliders, pads, discs etc are all ok, have you noticed a drop in fuel economy?? Go on a good run use the brakes a bit, get out check each wheel, does one smell and feel hotter?? If so then you have caliper drag! The piston to caliper body seal has gone hard, resulting in the piston being unable to retract back after you release the brake pedal!! You can get replacement inner seals, and dust skirts from Skoda £10 ish each one!! and you can replace with caliper still insitu more or less!! If one side gone then best to do other side as well!
