thinking of buying a satnav unit off ebay to retro fit who should i speak to, i am in sheffield

how long is the wait for a 1.2 dsg in this model as fabia is 20weeks+

which chassis is this car from? the mkv golf?

Order the diesel, the 1.2 cannot pull the skin off a rice pudding and will cost more to run

Diesel is £3000 more with the vat offer

Do they not do a 1.4? AFAIK if you get a Columbus with latest firmware it should be plug and play.

I think a 1.2 DSG SE would be a great car, approx £3500 cheaper than a 1.6CR diesel DSG with the same 105hp although less torque.

My wife's Focus 1.6 TDCi diesel has 90hp and is fine for our needs

DTD quote £13180 before extras.

The 1.4 gives 125hp is about £400 more after discount

The Octavia 2 is based on VW Golf 5/6 platform AKA A5

thanks for the info, 1.4 is only 17bhp more or 15%ish but mpg is a fair bit lower, much prefer the mpg then the extra power, just hope the vat deal is extended as i been told

The vat deal is only the amount you should negotiate off list anyway

Have you tried the 1.2? It's seriously impressive. More poke than my (non turbo) 1.6 Golf and that's a lighter car.

I too being a diesel nutt through & through would commend the 1.2 petrol, it pulls like a Diesel, and with the DSG will shift up & down as necessary.

We took a test drive in a 1.2 petrol without DSG , three up , OK mostly urban but no particiluar need to "stir the cogs", an effortless drive and that was immediately after stepping out of a 1.9TDI VW engined lump. I never once stalled the 1.2 petrol which actually surprised me as I am moderately quick on a clutch, i.e. I do not routinely slip a clutch.

Cheers

PS

For all that as above

Petrol is still HATEFUL stuff

Sniff!

My wife has the 1.2 Tsi in Fabia form, 105bhp manual.

Whilst it suits the fabia very well, I cant help but feel it would be really underpowered in an Octy, after all, it is a big lump of a car to pull around.

Maybe ask on the Yeti forum to see how it has coped in their motors

My mum has a new Polo SEL with the 1.2TSi engine and after driving it I'd be fairly dubious as to how it would even move the extra weight of an Octavia, never mind with any considerable speed.

Not the consensus of opinions:-

The 1.2TSi beats the 1.9TDI hands down when it comes to refinement and the figures speak for themselves. Do not be deceived by the 1.2 TSi's small capacity. It is equivalent to a normally aspirated 1.8 but with superior low/mid range torque, lower emissions and better mpg.

... 1.2 TSi ........................................1.9TDI 105 BHP..............

0 -62mph 10.8 secs .................... 0 - 62mph 11.8 secs

top speed 119mph ....................... top speed 119mph

Max torque 175/1550rpm.............. Max torque 250/1900rpm

Combined mpg 47.9 .....................Combined mpg 57.6

comparison to me says diesel has better MPG and a lot more torque and thats where it counts once your moving :D but I have to say this lil 1.2 TSi is impressive its a real sign of the times showing what those WWII runners up can do with some spanners!

But for the lil bit of extra cash personally in same situation id opt for the 1.4

Mating such a small engine with an auto gearbox doesn't seem like a good combination to me.

Plus I think you'll find that the wait is down to the fact you want DSG and the wait will be just aslong in any of Skoda's (or VAGs) models that you decide to go for.

The DSG box is a manual box where the gears are changed automatically, no torque converter to sap power.

The 0-60 time of 10.8 secs is the same for both manual and DSG

Yup, and only realistically achievable in the DSG... unless the driver has no sympathy for synchro rings and gear teeth in a manual :-)

They quote the Octy Vrs manual and DSG as the same 0-60. There's no way on this earth i could have done 0-60 in the manual as fast as the DSG does every single time.

Maxidot is free with DSG, double check the brochure then call up for the £107 refund :-)

According to the brochure I have (edition 08/10) that is only true on the VRS. It wasn't included on my Elegance 1.8 DSG - got it lumped in with the multi-function steering wheel.

Had the car for a few days now, Car has plently of power for normal family use, Dsg is amazing, The stereo is on very low as the engine is so quiet, you can talk without raising your voice, the engine is so quiet you heard more road noise, If you read What car the 1.2tsi octavia is the car of the year for a small family car and will lose least money according to which magazine

Fabia 1.2 dsg kerb weight is 1164

Octavia 1.2 dsg kerb weight is 1215

So the fabia is only 51kg lighter

Anyway 10.8 seconds 0-60 its pretty good
