Yeti shipping details?

Thanks for replies.

Do I gather that the ship which I suspect carries my jamjar is the Elbe Highway, given that the car was described as 'shipped' yesterday? Am I right in saying that it went from Emden and is bound for Sheerness with an ETA of today at 2.30 UTC?

Presumably it went cross country to get to Emden (quite a long way?) What's the name of the place of manufacture - anyone know?

Till now I haven't pursued progress of it's arrival given that it could have changed at any time - but now I admit a renewed enthusiasm to see it's progress to the dealers. If I'm right then the 10th May should be plenty time????

Given the on's and off's it would seem to be a miracle that cars don't get knocked about more as they make their way around the world. I suppose they've had a while to get the hang of it by now.

UK Yetis are manufactured at Skoda's newest homeland facility in Kvasiny, quite close to the Polish boarder to the east of Prague.

Sent to Emden in Northern Germany on sizeable train transporters (they manufacture over 200 Yetis a day on average).

Indeed it is the Elbe Highway that's due in to Sheerness mid afternoon, having left Emden late yesterday.

Many thanks for prompt reply to my enquiry about the manufacture and transport, TP.

Had, for some reason, imagined road transport cross country and had overlooked the prospect of a huge train. Does make sense though, doesn't it.. :)

Is it the case, TP, that your car is definitely on the EH and therefore probably due to roll on to UK soil very soon?

Oh to answer your other point re the hazards of delivery then yes sadly there are incidents (fingers X not this time round), this photo was published on the French forum during the winter of 2009/10 emoticon-0106-crying.gif

The Superb Combi would probably been one of the first down the line :(

Knew the name Elbe rang a bell; it's only a major river that runs between Bohemia and Cruxhaven just up the coast from Emden.

Now how bizarre is that :wonder:

Excellent news

Hope this guy isn't driving the ship.

don't think you were far off  the Elbe Highway is now running late :( looking at her GPS track she tried to go to Margate, realised not the right place so turned north west; now heading south west in the right direction :D

Just had a look, Sheerness is in sight. Not sure what the toward Margate diversion was all about, the Skipper obviously needs a Columbus :giggle:

ETA was 14.30 - making you suffer all the way.

It sounds a long time from April 18 to May 10 to actually get hold of the car. Mine arrived in the UK the same day as yours and I'm hoping to get it maybe next week or certainly the week after. Is that being unrealistic? After all, when the dealer gets it all I want them to do is add the rear parking sensors and tax it. May take a couple of days to get an insurance cover note but can't see why it would take a further two weeks to get it, even with Easter and the other bank holidays coming up.

Hi LizC,

should be able to get 7 day free Skoda insurance to get you going; this only takes a short phone call and they e-mail the dealer the cover note. Keith's should be able to give you the number and details required. Also remember that you can road tax a new car for 12 months & 1 week, so you should be able to get a full 12 months RFL :)

Likewise hoping to pick up a week Saturday if James can get her to Allams by Wednesday next week; wonder if the Queen could postpone that wedding, give us an extra day :D

Regards,

TP

hope it can get a ride to James ASP your wait is nearly over.

Take your point but my dealer is taking note of the Easter weekend and bank holidays (inc. Royal wedding on 29th) plus, in my case, I have to book train tickets in advance and don't want to find there was a delay in transport and discover the car's not ready for my pre-dated tickets, so really he's just being cautious for my sake. If you take away the weekends and bank holidays there is actually 12 working days to the 10th May. He did say Monday 9th but I've added an extra day to allow anything needed to be done on the Monday plus Tuesday may be a quieter day to travel than Monday???? In the meantime I'm advertising my present car so hope things may tie up given luck and a following wind. The free 7 day insurance aids the dealer by getting insurance cover emailed to them (their annual quote wasn't too bad either). The dealer has a personal plate on retention to sort out but beyond that just mudflaps to fit.

And no sooner had it docked.........it was off again. The Elbe Highway - off through the night to Zeebrugge. Clearly the crew weren't entreated to a night in the fleshpots of Sheerness.

I suppose it would however indicate that it's discharged it's precious cargo of Yetii. And I haven't seen on the news tonight that a ship sank in Kent, so hopefully they're all tucked up in rows on the dockside awaiting cossetting by the delivery drivers et al.

Well it's a well travelled ship; sailed from Saint Petersburg in the Baltic to get to Emden and now to Zeebrugge. Pity the crew of the Weser Highway, they only ever see Emden or Grimsby

Has the system updated to show your Monster is at Sheerness?

Mine finally arrived at the dealer's today  and its looking like a first week in May collection - Easter, Wedding, May Day plus DVLA plate transfer delays. Still, at least it has arrived.

Although my Yeti arrived at Grimsby over the weekend of April 16/17 it is still awaiting transport to York. I was told this afternoon I might not get it until after May 4 when I have a long journey to make.

Find this very annoying and bordering on unacceptable I'm afraid. You would think that dealers would be told when cars were to be unloaded at Grimsby and that they would pre-arrange transport, not that they would be having to ring around to get a delivery made several days after it had arrived in the UK.

Don't think a 60 mile journey which takes an hour and a half according to the AA route planner should delay a car for days.

I have asked for a loan car if I can't have it before my long journey, very fed up with these delays now. Apparently it may not even arrive at the dealer until next Wednesday, even though there are another two working days which are not bank holidays before that date.

I have the registration number, is there any way I can insure the Yeti while still being able to drive my current car? I need as little further hassle as possible!

LizC

Hi LizC,

very frustrating and likewise I would like to collect at the end of the month but to many days off and getting a transporter in time, might get in the way :( Regard insurance see my earlier post #60.

Hi Tony,

possible arrived on last Wednesdays ship (Main Highway) :wonder: sounds like your going to have a long day indeed but you will have a nice drive in the new Monster :)

Hoping if at all possible to get a 30th collection, as I can only collect on Saturdays due to work and train availability. Problem is the first two weekends in May I have other prior engagements (didn't expect this length of time for delivery), so I'd need to do some juggling to fit in a collection on the 7th otherwise :S Going to be touch and go mind with three days less than there would normally be. Royal Weddings; bar humbug :giggle:

Look forward to your review and some nice pics once you've rested from you journey :)
