People's Opinions About Your Car

Who gives a stuff what people think?

It's easy to look posh and drive around in a Range Rover giving it the big one on finance, then go home to your one bed council flat. :wonder: I've seen it done.

I sold my two year old Range Rover and now drive a Fabia and a Yeti.

Everyone who works for me thought I'd gone bonkers, but I think they're great.

Don't be a sheep. Buy what you want. Many more things in life to spend money on that cars.

Besides, everyone I know that is really rich drives a normal car anyway. They don't have to pretend by buying a flashy motor and have it sitting on the drive loosing £££.

Fabia VRS = Guy drives a Skoda and is poor

BMW Z4 = Guy is minted...

go figure! :|

Come to think of it, I can't recall ever seeing a brand new Z4! Do they come already made second hand?

People still see the badge and nothing else. I used to get comments about my MK1 Octi vRS but once I pointed out that it was an Audi engine and that the equivalent BMW, Audi or Merc was about 5 to 6 grand more, they soon shut up :smirk:

Once I got my MK2 vRS, all the comments were positive  As a family, we are on our 4th Skoda, having had a Fabi and Octi each previously. We now own a new Fabi vRS and I've still got my Octi vRS tdi.

Can't see us having anything else to be honest ;)

Exactly. I often recommend some form of Skoda if someone asks what to go for. All my "normal" cars will be Skoda's for the forseeable future and maybe a weekend toy once I have a house. Still a few years to go for that though.

My work colleagues always ask me why I drive the cars I drive, one said I must be mad to drive a mk2 golf and should get a 335 3 series bm instead so I could be like all of them!!!! And I'm not joking if you remove my mk2 every other car in the carpark is a BMW!!! Lowest spec one being a 2 year old 330 coupe, I just think of all the other things I enjoy in life more than buying a new bm every 3 years

:) I'm not even slightly bothered if people don't like my cars...given what I drive it's probably just as well! :p

I planned on keeping my current vRS and Oct been good and done that. This vRS I'm hoping to keep for at least 3 years.

After ordering it several people now know. My parents are all positive about it. Still not sure about the DSG but they love the idea of a fast estate. My parents have always said that I can buy any car I want as long as I pay for it.

A few others have said I should have kept the money for a house deposit/rainy day. Since I'm not earning enough to run a house I though why not. Buy something I'll enjoy and use now while I can afford it and save up for a house once I have a tidy job. After all you only live once plus I didn't want to be a sheep and end up with a more expensive Audi.

One has said I'm stupid to buy new and I've lost 2k after driving out of the forecourt. When the vRS I've ordered with my spec compared to an A1 is almost 13k cheaper I'd be stupid not to.

You wont loose money as soon as you drive off the forecourt. hate people that say this...How long are you planning on keeping the car for? 3+ years it doesn't really matter, and deep down we all love to come home in a brand new car :giggle:

As for peoples opinions, i am based in a secondary school and all the kids love mine! Also went on a stag do last weekend, 21 of the lads i didn't know and when i pulled onto the car park they all wanted a look at the car and commented how nice it was and not one person mentioned 'but its a Skoda'. The only negative comment i got was that it should have an oval/single exit exhaust and not the small twin pipes. All this when i was parked next to a 10reg Scirroco so Skoda must be doing something right!

That's only an issue if you're planning on selling the car as soon as you've driven it off the forecourt. :D

IMHO, you'd be daft not to buy a new car if you can afford to - you'll get exactly the car you want (that's got to be worth an extra £2k alone), and you won't have the risk of a previous owner mistreating it for several thousand miles.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about other people's financial advice anyway...yes, you could save for a house deposit. Or you could use the money to spend a year travelling. Or you could get a really nice suit made. But if you're interested in cars, why would you?

And you'll find a new car more useful than a bunch of savings on those rainy days. :D

That's exactly my point. Thanks guys. I am a petrolhead and many people just don't get that. Sure I could have spent all my money on partying but instead I spent some doing that and saved the rest for the car. At least I've got something to show for it.

It's typical on here (as most forums) that as soon as someone says something like "I like Sam Smiths Bitter, any others you would recommend?" a load of people jump up and say "Bitter is carp, you need to drink lager", or "sandwiches and crisps are far better than Bitter". Go for it, it is your money and you are a grown up :)

I find a lot of people seem to worry a lot about my car and the type of person that I must be, at least they seem to worry about it a lot more than I ever have

I think I know what you mean, I had people thinking i must be a certain type of person when I had the Alfa 156! still hasn't got any better since driving Skoda's!! ;)

Who gives a flying f*ck what anyone else thinks - it's your choice and no-one else's, so buy what YOU want, not what someone else thinks you should have

I'm surprisingly not a Yeti fan, but if people want to waste their notes on one who am I to criticise?
