Vrs Insurance - young drivers

Thank for the tips guys, with adding my dad as a second named driver, it get the insurance down to 1700 from 2000. i tried as employed instead of full time/part time student, (as i work as a lifeguard), and it only went down £20. And of course i can change the voluntary excess, using compare the market, having £50 voluntary excess it comes to £1700, and if i was to have £500 voluntary excess it will be £1200. So surely it would be better to have higher voluntary excess, if the total price that would have to be paid IF an accident would happen, would be the same...

So annually u pay 1200 instead of 1700? is this obvious thinking or am i overlooking something?

Cheers Max.

750 £ a year for my old SAAB that I had.

500 £ a year for my new Skoda , 24 years old and one insurance-claim 3 years ago.

I just had a quote for my current POS car - Seat Ibiza FR 1.9 TDI PD 130 - that was yielding quotes of around £425-450.

As I've got a Fabia vRS Estate on order, which is a MUCH higher group than the Ibiza, I was bracing myself for a big increase.

Quotes were coming back at £375...

Considering it is the same or similar group to my last car (Octy vRS Mk2 CR), that was over £550 to insure.

How insurance companies do the math on these things I don't know...

FWIW I'm 28 with 5 years NCB (had a bump a few years back, my fault too)

Most peple will have an excess between £400 and £600 pounds. Surprised switching to employed didn't save you a bit.
