vRS Tyre Pressures

Featured Replies

Ok this may be a bit random but,

What pressures are you running your tyres at? I've just inflated mine as per the label on the fuel filler cap to 2.5 bar on the front and 2.4 on the back... Does this seem a tad high to anybody?

Damo

What it say's on the tin 2.5 &2.4

What tyres you running sir, the Dunlop's on the wife's are utter rubbish until warm then there not bad

I think the tyres play a part into ride comfort. I think the wife's would benifit from Ribbed tyres, like conties or Goodyear Excellence instead of ones made up of blocks

I am running the Dunlops sir...

They're not too bad IMHO.. although I haven't had them "let go" on me yet...

contis here 2.5 bar all round :)

cracking tyres, but too expensive come replacement time.... gonna go for a "mid range"

When I asked my dealer what tyres the vRS would come with they were pretty sure it would be conti's They are good tyres, loads of grip but I know they won't last long.

2.5 bar all round, although when i checked pressures a week or so after collection, every tyre was on vastly different pressures

Hmm just to take an opportunity to ask a random question. On my Ford Focus mk1 i've found running my front tyres at just below the psi/bar (0.5 psi, running 31.5/32 psi) of my rears helps the handling a little. Is this just a quirk of my car or is there a benefit to front wheel drive cars having slightly less pressure in the front tyres in general?

I presumed on my current car this is due to the fronts getting more heat from driving and steering the car, so normally running slightly increased pressures than the rear if they were originally equal. So my adjustment is balancing out the pressures a little?

thats a front wheel drive trait, if im on track i run higher pressure on the rear, especially as over 80% of the brake bias is over the front axle on a FWD car (normally). But in normal driving where the fronts arent being used as heavily i keep them even

Bumping an old thread.

My cars fronts had 2.7... I've dropped them to 2.5 over the weekend, and now my car says to "Check tires"

They are fine.. how can I make this warning go away...

I assume the TPM is calibrated to 2.7 or something............ I would read the book but it's at home. I'm assuming someone will know how to do this :D

if you look down next to your handbrake there is a little tyre set button, i think you press and hold this for a couple of seconds when ignition is on and this should set the level and the light should go out

OK Cheers for that I'll give it a go

Don't forget, if you run pressures over 10% off manufacturers recommendations, you could be prosecuted by the police.

If you have an accident, they will check.

Tony

My tyre pressures at front were 2.7 and are now 2.5

So they were just inside legality and are now at manufacturers spec.

I downloaded the manual - says you need to hold the button for two seconds. I'll report back.

i had not checked my tyre pressures yet as i assumed they would do that at the pdi and i just checked mine, one front was 2.1 and the other was 2.3, one back was 2.4 and the other was 2.2. Now all set to the proper setting.

This thread has prompted me to check my pressures when I go home tonight...I know most tyre fitters just set all pressures to 30psi, you'd think dealers would put the correct pressure in but it appears not.

Button for 2 seconds sorts this.

FWIW - should be 2.5 at front and 2.4 at back unladen or lightly loaded

what the button does is resets the computer for the tyre pressure indicators..... if the pressures change again the light will come back on.

Exactly correct.

This also means you have to make sure the pressures are correct in the first instance when you calibrate the TPM.

Also, because it works off the ABS sensors (I think) and not a dedicated pressure sensor, it will only give a warning if there is an in-balance in the tyre pressures (e.g. a slow puncture or blow out in one of the tyres), not if they all gradually lose pressure at the same rate, so do not assume that because the TPM has not activated that the pressures are correct! :)

Yep, no pressure sensor as you say it uses the ABS system. Just to give you an idea, when I changed to the spare a month ago it took about 12 miles before the TPM realised something had changed.

As far as the OP's question, 2.5/2.4 as it says on the fuel cap. No problems :)
