I want that one

Featured Replies

Down at Sherlodge Garage today to see a friend and look what was parked up.

Your always "visiting" friends at Sherlodge on a Sunday :rubchin:

What'd it go like? ;)

They're quite good value for money now aren't they?

I remember when they first came out and some tester said the brake discs on them were bigger than an entire mini wheel (an old mini clearly)

is it definitly a lotus? cos if it is they are quite pricey ain't they?

mmmmmm Lotus Carlton

Get a bib, Nick

Now that would make a nice little toy.

A good friend of mine has just about finished doing a bare metal restoration on a LC including rebuilding the engine with a few 'tweeks' for this show season, they are lovely to be sure.

He spent nearly two years looking for a 'good' one that was in a fit state to rebuild. Most just like the std Carltons have suffered the old tin worm and been damaged at some point in their lives.

I disposed of my Senator when the rust started to get serious. But a good Lotus Carlton would definitely be on my wish list if I had the money. A year or 2 ago head gaskets were unobtainable for them. I wonder what the spares situation is now.

I know it's a bit of a barge but I definitely would.

A Lotus Carlton, that is, not Judy Finnigan.

bit of a barge? it was the original 4 door autobahn stormer... 377bhp and 170mph... :D is still classed as being the ultimate today, even against modern machines like the e55amg M5 and RS6!

3 years ago, a bad one would have cost about 17k... running to almost 30 for a mint one... :)

I was at a collectors auction about 5 years ago (mainly american and classic cars) and one of these was listed. It was immaculate, 2 owners and 20-something thousand miles. I was expecting a sale in the

i remember seeing a fair few of them at trax a few years back, watching people stopping and just staring with their gobs open :D

I know, that's why I'd still have one :)

I remember when it was launched and there were stories on the news about the police trying to have it banned (presumably because they only had Maestros at the time.)

Looking at it again, it looks every inch the ancestor of the HSV-GTS - you can imagine it flat out down the Conrod straight at Bathurst (with a police Maestro in the distance trying to keep up...)

Did they tell you it was one careful owner? Totally standard?

Shouldnt the reg be blanked out?

Lotus Carlton... classic machine... I remember when some car magazine recorded 175mph on a German autobahn in the rain

Is that a real one as I thought they were all emerald green and that looks black/grey?

I've only ever seen them in that charcoal colour personally.

Perhaps I've only ever seen that one before, then :D

That said in all the photos I have seen they look black

I've seen a few in the flesh. They do tend to look very dark in photos, unless they're photographed on a sunny day with the sun behind the camera. Reason for this is that the paint is very dark with a lighter green metallic flip in it, so unless it's shining and you can make out the metallic flip in the photo, it just looks black :)
