Direct Line motor insurance refuses to quote and insure Skoda Yeti vehicles that are fitted with an off-road button

Featured Replies

Yes I was actually told that they wouldn't insure foreign drivers!! :dull:

My Russian student pal (lives in London)travelling to meet me in Cardiff last month asked me where she should change her UK currency and refused to take a taxi because (she said) the drivers did not speak English. Was also worried about her visa requirements for crossing from England to Wales.

Year before last I was insured by Co-Op (CIS)I asked about a simple remap for more torque,

because I tow, they would not do it. My insurance was due and I received a massive quote

from CIS so I looked around and settled on RAC for a more sensible quote with the same cover

it was then I found RAC is part of the CIS group.

I am insured with Skoda/Allianz at the moment for my 2012 Yeti 2WD 110ps but it does seem

rather expensive, I have decided to get a new Yeti same spec. and have had a quote from

Hastings which beats the Allianz quote hands down.

Reading the online Martins Money Tips, insurance went up 20% last year and will be going

up 25% soon this year so where do I look for insurance now?

PS I declare my towbar and mention that the spec. is as described in the manufacturers

brochure for that year. I had a difference of opinion with one insurer because my Ford Focus

had the rear window "brake-light/spoiler" I posted the brochure to them and got an apology.

Direct Line are a waste of time in my experience. Better going almost anywhere else.

I was told years ago by a broker that you don't need to declare anything to your insurer that was fitted in the factory.

Just had my renewal.... its gone up 21% over last year. Did a bit of comparing the market and the best price I got only matched my existing insurer's renewal figure. So since all insurers give an 8 - 10% introductory discount, it looks a s though staying with the existing (Aviva) is my best bet.

Interestingly, I had a minor car park bump last year (backing out of a space in the dark, there was car waiting for me to exit so they could have my space & some "silly person" in a Porsche Cayenne decided to overtake the waiting car at speed and then stop right behind me, also wanting my space. Gentle contact was made, no damage to my Yeti, but the bill for the Cayenne was over £3000 for a small dent at the bottom of the driver's door & stupid amount for replacement car hire. It's time this nonsense was stopped) - anyway, back to the story....  when getting renewal quotes, I got each quote firstly without declaring the accident and then modified each to include one "own fault accident". Surprisingly  it made absolutely no difference to the quotes! (And before you point out that my insurance has gone up due to my bump, I had guaranteed NCD, so it should have made no difference).
