Farewell to the Blue Bullet

Featured Replies

Sounding great Carl

I would love to start a new project on a FL DSG Octy but all the money that I've spent on the last one means that I can't justify selling it for a couple of decades or afford to even if I could :giggle:

Bull I don´t think soo.

All latest VW group models come restricted to a certain RPM.

My 1.6 tdi does not go, 5 speed gearbox, over 3750-3800RPM at a top speed 197km/h.

Going down hill you can notice the engine "cutting" off

I can assure you my Octavia is not restricted to a certain RPM and neither are all the latest VAG models. The only cars that are restricted to 155mph are the RS Audi's (& possibly the R36 Passat) because they can achieve way past that. Hence the reason on all the RS Audi's you can have the limiter raised to 174mph as a cost option.

Have a search for the username Mater2503 (which is me) on YouTube. You will the top speed run shown in the clip posted here & some other video's i did on the autobahn which clearly show my car approaching redline in 6th.

So maybe your car is limited to 3.8k rpm max however i think you will find that is a limitation due to the diseasel engine and not VAG specific across the whole range.

What map? Or haven't you decided yet?

Standard dampers?

Not decided on mapping yet. I did have Revo on the Bullet however in my personal experience Revo's Customer care is at best Shocking. They do have the best maps out there (that's just my opinion based on what i have seen) but the lack of support if something goes wrong has left a bad taste in my mouth with them. I'm not saying other maps are bad, far from it. Had i had good customer care then i would have gone Revo again without question. However now it's a toss up between Bluefin, APR, Shark & Revo. Im still doing research and once i have stuck around 1k miles on it so im happy no build issues then i will make my decision and map it.

With regards to dampers. I don't take the car on the track, have been trained to drive at high speed, and the wife will use the car more than me. So i am probably going to stick with the standard dampers and just lower springs. Having been in Hedge's new one the car seems a lot better damped as standard than what i remember the bullet being before i went with the Koni FSD/Eibach setup. I will make my decision though once i have been in a friends car who has KW coilovers.

I just can't remember where i heard ( could have been a tuner) but apparently the standard ECU map is limited to 150mph on the 2.0T. You'd probably be lucky to get past 150mph standard anyway. Could be bull....

I had 156mph according to Satnav on the standard map in the Ze Fatherland

Like I said some models and certainly, like you said, only diesel.

A tuning specialist tried to enter the ECU and nothing, would not read. It will identify the ECU and model but that´s it.

From what he told me on other models with dif. ECU, one thing he does is to take out the rev limiter.

My VRS tdi topped out at 139mph on the flat, haven't had the chance to try again since the dpf removal and new map. Certainly felt like I'd hit a wall though!
