"Safe locking - Check owners manual"

Featured Replies

Apologies for posting about this subject again, but the original thread drifted off topic and a few more people have received their Superbs, so I'd like to re-ask the question if I may...

When I come to stop the car and switch off the ignition, I get a message on the maxidot "Safe locking - check owners manual". Of course, the owners manual doesn't really help with the actual message (only the "safe securing"... that's right, it's not even called the same thing!!)

So, firstly, does anyone else get this message when they switch off the ignition...? Simple answers, yes or no :S

I have contacted the dealer who has said that it's just a message to remind me that the so called "safe locking" will happen when I lock the car. However, I'm not convinced as the I'm sure the demonstrators I have used didn't show this message. I am thinking it could be something that remains from the car being in transportation mode and for all I know it could be a warning that safe locking ISN'T going to happen when I lock the car :(

Thanks all

I also get this message, some times! I would like some more info about it, what it REALLY means...

I get that on mine, like you say the manual isn't much help! The dealer didn't mention it on Handover and he moved the car from where it had been parked overnight but didn't say anything despite locking it when he came back to finalize the last few bits.

I reckon the dealer's explanation is plausible, may help boost the security rating and reduce the insurance grouping.

I got this last week on a rental Passat. There was no manual so it was difficult to work out what it meant.

I think it's a reminder that you haven't got auto open set, ie you need to pull the lock lever once to unlock the door and then again to physically unlatch it.

Or that if you auto lock with the remote somebody inside can't get out unless you press the remote plipper twice.

Most confusing I agree.

I have this message as well... annoying... not sure that it is just reminder as it suggest to check manual...

My Yeti does this as well. Seems to be be the way Maxidot is set up.

I believe it is to do with the KESSY system - as a reminder to follow the manual when locking the car. If you are not careful with the keyless entry system you can leave the car unlocked. I had a 2009 superb and did not get this message but I do with my my new combi with keyless entry

Ahh, could be... I also have KESSY.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have KESSY, so I don't think it's related, although by the look of it, it seems like most people have it. Whilst it seems a pointless message (because it doesn't actual tell you anything and doesn't relate to the manual) I'll not pursue it further. Maybe vcds could switch it off... any thoughts?

Cheers all

I get the message and dont have maxidot

I've never ever seen it, not got KESSY, but have locking & unlocking set to auto.

I think this message only happens for people with FY11 Superb. It really is just a reminder that if you lock the car, there is no way that it can be forcefully opened from the inside. Hence, it is important that you should be sure no children or pets were in the car when the car is locked. I am not sure if you could even make the message disappear, but I know if you press lock button twice, it disengages the safe locking feature. But the next time you turn on the car, the feature will be tunred back on again itself.

Cheers,

When you say you have locking and unlocking set to auto, do you mean it's set so that it locks when you drive off and unlocks when you remove the key? That's how I've got mine set. I also have it set to unlock all doors at once.

I have MY11 car and I don't get the message.

Phil

Hi!

I have this message, no KESSY. Checking the supplement to the manual it says that this message will come on but not why. It's confusing when a system shows messages with no relevance for the user. This should go into the thread about most useless feature on the Superb.

That's it, I have mine exactly like that.

I get this on my '11 vRS

No!

It's briefly explained in the small supplementary manual with 2011 model year cars. It's just a message to say that the car has deadlocks i.e. once you lock the car it can't be unlocked by using an interior door handle. The exact message depends on whether the car has the maxidot display or not. To see the manual follow the documentation link at the top of the forum.

Looking at the Supplement, it starts with "When activating the safe lock function after you have locked the vehicle..." and then goes on to describe the type of message displayed. However, I'm not activating safelock (which I presume is the "double press" of the key fob).

I'll have to try locking the car (while I'm in it) and then trying to get out... in theory I shouldn't be able to if everything is set correctly?!

I have MY11 car and I don't get the message.

How do you have your locking set up in the mfd? Perhaps yours is set up slightly differently? Although I see the Supplement is for vehicles from 11/2010. I'm assuming it means November 2010... did you get your car before then?

A double press of the lock button diables the interior sensors.

Cars buily from November 2010 have this instruction coming up on the display. It isn't on my October built 2010 Superb but is on my wifes April built 2011 Octavia.

Once press of the button puts the car automatically in the deadlocked position meaning you can't open the doors from the inside.

2 presses knocks off interior sensor and you can still open the doors from the inside.

The way the doors lock is unchanged, just the message in the display as far as I can see.

Both my cars are set to lock automatically when you reach a certain speed and the doors unlock as soon as you take the key out of the ignition or someone opens the door from the inside. The autolock only prevents doors being opened from the outside when activated.

My 2011 Superb comes up with the same message. However the car was originally set for the drivers door to open on one press of the remote. For all the doors to unlock you needed to press the remote twice. I changed this on the MFI and now all doors unlock on one press, but I get the safe locking message.

It has been stated at least 3 times:

Message is NOT KESSY dependent as this message also appears on 2011 Octavia.

My car was built mid November (left the factory on the 17th) 2010 and I do not get the message either.

No KESSY,

All doors set to unlock on one press of remote

Anti-hijack NOT enabled.
