Ford Fusions, and more bloody Ford Fusions

Featured Replies

I spent a couple of years working for a local car hire shop in Lewis. There was a strong Ford presence in the fleet, mainly Fiesta Mk6's. These were alright, handled well and had a nice gearshift, although there was nowhere for my size 11 left foot and the 1.2 petrol versions were gutless. Still managed to park one upside-down mind you...

There was also a couple of the last-gen Mondeos, which were pretty good, a tired but willing Focus, and a lovely diesel Mazda 6 with a Bose sound system (Ford owned at the time).

Then there was the Fusion. Gutless like the Fiesta, but with rubbish handling... The interior didn't wear as well as the other cars, bits of trim fell off, and the extra space was in the wrong places. Who needs acres of headroom? I'm 6ft 2in and could have worn a fancy hat. They would have been better off selling a small diesel estate version of the Fiesta, along the same lines as the Pug 206 SW.

I didn't warm to that car at all. It wasn't quite as horrid as the W-reg lime green 1.4 automatic Renault Scenic we had (I feel nauseous...) but it wasn't far off.

ISTR that the Fusion has recently been dropped (as a model), so these are probably the run-out batch appearing through the car "supermarkets".

Think it's going to come back as the B-Max to keep in with the C-Max and S-Max Family.

Yes, and it should be infinitely better too.

The modern Ford MPVs are quite good.

My partner has a Fusion 2 1.4 and I have to say its pretty crude!! The ride is very harsh and its noisy at speed and gutless, but it is fairly well put together and is extremely useful in shape.

I was pretty miffed that it swallowed a side board when my Octavia didnt! But what amazes me is that Ford hasnt seemed to updated the car in anyway when comparing a 53 and 60 plate. They still seem pretty popular around here where we live and I have to say, it is better (just)than the Fiesta courtesy car we once had!

When my Octavia blew its turbo, we used the Fusion to drive to Cornwall and once I had accepted the car for what it is, I actually quite enjoyed driving it.

My partner calls it her "Workhorse" and that is all it really is.

There is one real advantage to the Fusion. It is the ONLY recent Ford with good all round vision. That may well be the reason that older drivers who put safety and practicality above looks go for them.

We are perhaps fortunate that VAG products tend to have reasonable vision, though it has to be said that Seat bucks that trend pretty hard. I'm not going to even mention the Sirocco!

It's a shame that said drivers seem incapable of looking beyond the extremities of their vehicle, and think that "slow = safe"! ;)

My ex-wife had one so that's a good enough reason for me to hate the bloody things!

£105 less than my 105bhp CRTDi Monte................bargain :S

Ford fusion is kind of a vehicle for the elderely and you can get a wheelchair in the back or something.

Notice it's a lot higher off the ground than a fiesta? Easy to get in and out of!

I did get told this sort of thing at my local Ford dealer once when I complained why do they sell such an ugly car.

Oap's love - small, practical and ugly.

Yep, SWMBO's 80 year old grandad drives one and he absoloutley raves about it for all of those reasons

I took a Fusion in as a part ex a while ago and I also was unlucky enough to have to drive it back to the garage for 30 miles. When people ask me what the worst car I've driven is, a Ford Fusion is always my answer.

Ford probably know they aren't very good but you do you what, with the amount they've sold I don't reckon they're too bothered!

As far as they are concerned they must have got something right with the Fusion.

I saw two yesterday in a 'mature' housing estate.

I cried a little inside. There's so much more to life than those... up there with that horrid Yaris Verso!

I remember Jeremy Clarkson's review of the Fusion in the Sunday Times - absolutely slated it. I can see its attraction to the less mobile who just want A to B transport.

It was the first car i ever drove! so i though it was quite good :) passed my test in one ha, only chose the instructor because i knew them so got discount :)

however i'm sure if i drove one today i wouldn't be so impressed :) i think every one likes the first car they take control of right?

You lot best be careful or you'll have a boat load of fusion owners after your blood for criticising their cars*

*metal box on box on wheels used to travel in, has no emotions of its own so cannot be upset by Jibba jabba on forums.

Unlike a certain Skoda.. Obviously that's got feelings cos its got a pet name..... Honestly....

Unfortunately my wife has one in a yucky colour called Sublimne, I don't know what I disslike the most, the colour or the car. Don't get too excited about them fading away, I had a look on the Ford website and it is the American version which is being ended.

Hit double figures yesterday........saw 10 of the sodding things on the drive back from Skegness

The Fusion drivers are probably saying those exact words about Skodas :giggle:

I doubt it

If they drive one in the first place, you'll be be lucky if they realise a car has anything beyond 4 wheels
