Three - mobile

Featured Replies

Just a heads up for people on the 3 network - according to their website from 6th June they'll be charging 1 pence per SMS delivery report. As most phones have delivery reports setup as default, could get pricey for those that do a lot of texting.

I'm so glad I ditched 3 when I did.

When they swapped over to Orange from o2 for their 2g backup, my phone effectively became useless at work and home as Orange was appauling around there.

3's 3g was also right on the edge of coverage as well, which meant that my phone was constantly swapping over between the 2 networks trying to find the best signal. Unlike all "proper" networks who own both 2 and 3g towers, as 3 only had their 3g towers and leased the 2g signal, they couldn't do a proper seamless handover between UMTS and GSM towers, which meant the call could drop off half way through the conversation as it decided what network to use.

Trying to explain this to their Indian tech support was nigh on impossible

In the end I had to disable 3g on my phone, which kind of defeats the point of it really.

How can i tell, if i have text report set on my phone?

I have a Nokia 5800.

Was with 3 for one year. Damn thing kept jumping between 2G and 3G cutting you off each time.

I'm sure I've read that 3 don't want to lease 2G from anyone now (as Softscoop mentions it was a big issue), so if you can't get a 3G signal you get a lovely "emergency calls only" message on the handset! Only reason I'm still with them is a good tariff I got a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, they won't let me stay on the same tariff if I wish to upgrade to a better handset. :wonder: Surprisingly (and probably not good for 3) the call centre guy told me to buy a PAYG handset as it's cheaper than upgrading and I won't be tied into a new contract!

I think that you can change the delivery report settings from the Message-Settings menu. If it is on, then with Nokias you normally get a report text message upon the other party receiving a message you have sent.

Three are not the only ones, I believe several of the other networks are already charging for you to receive the delivery reports.

Three use T-Mobiles 2G signal to fill in their coverage and IIRC always have done from day one, and since the T-Mobile / Orange sharing arrangement there has been talk that it is infact T-Mobile that want to stop Three using their network and not the other way around. I guess Three have been unable to find either Voda/o2 willing to partner with, hence why it will soon be only Threes transmitters which will of course lead to holes in the current network coverage

IIRC O2 don't even have message receipts so they've not even got the option of paying.

Wife had same with them. Paid to get out of it. Was a good move.

Many thanks, Just checked mine is set to no reports by default

Three are the last to charge for delivery reports. The rest have been doing so for years.

Very little point as it only proves a message made it to the mobiles inbox at their network server. Doesnt prove it was downloaded or even read.

Guess it depends where you live.

In York my phone never jumps onto 2G and I always have a good 3G signal (apart from where phone signal is terrible regardless of network) and infact I often have good 3G signal when others on other networks have terrible 2G!

I use a 3G connection at work and vodfone and the speeds are terrible compared to what I get on three!

Oh... and I don't use delivery reports anyway!

I'm on vodafone and as far as I know they don't charge me for delivery reports.

They actually prove the mobile and not just the network server has received the message. It can't prove it's been read though.

+1 - Tmobile don't charge either - Orange on the other hand do even if you have unlimited texts on your contract.

Delivery reports tell you it has got to the phone and not just the network.

One other thing to point out is that the vodafone delivery reports work on networks that don't support them for their own customers - ie.O2
