Autotrader getting worse than Ebay

Featured Replies

How can Autotrader allow people to advertise cars that arn't even for sale like this and use the dealers details.

Cooper S £2 Franchised Dealer

Sure its a private sale!

Ok they are plenty adverts to vet but it cant be that hard?

That is pretty bad really, no report button like PHeads either that I can see.

The other thing that gets me is where they post a lower price to get it under £1k, so the advert is cheaper.

I set a min price filter to get rid of all of these anyway, and make a marked point of ignoring them. If they won't pay £30 to sell the car, how much have the spent running it? :dull:

Phone and fax number are the dealer, advert is from the dealer.

What's the problem with it?

Pee'd me off well and truly when I was looking - sellers putting one price on the main page of the ad to get it noticed, then quoting a different price in the text........infuriating bar stewards

Advert looks fine to me, Mini Cooper S for 2K and from a franchised dealer whos details are correct. No mention of other prices in the text either.

Dealer is Milton Keynes Hyundai, and the contact numbers match those of the dealers main website.

I should have made it clear that I was referring to Autotrader advert in general, not the particular one mentioned by the OP

Possibly true, Bryan, but the link in the first posting doesn't display any of that sort of thing. It looks totally legit, but cheap.

Link no longer works ?

Looks like they do something about it after all or its back on.

Autotrader

When you looked at the pictures it was plastered with an email address and a private sale notice.

Advert Picture

I doubt anyone let alone a franchised dealer will be selling a Cooper S of that age for £2

I can only assume the garage got quite a few calls asking for the Mini though

In 4 of the 5 pictures there was some typed on text over the picture saying "PRIVATE SALE" with an email address to use....

This is very fishy and most likely dodgy, since earlier it was for sale at Milton Keynes Hyundai and now its Mercedes Benz of Harrogate. Looks like the scammer (now convinced it is a scam) is hacking into dealer websites to list the car, and moving onto the next when the dealer concerned removes the car.

Obviously most people would smell a rat but that temptation of a deal can get the better of some people.

A guy from work paid £5k to a random guy off the net for an E46 M3 he saw for sale on the internet.

The seller said the car was uk spec, but was in Cadiz.

He said pay the money and he would send the car for him to view if he wasn't happy and send him back all shipping charges paid.

Needless to say he never saw his money again.

What is it they say about fools and their money?? emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

If it's too good to be true......

If it's only £2 I'd be prepared to take a punt on it

:rofl::rofl:

The scam ones tend to have an MSN email address on the 2nd picture, I think Autotrader vet the first image of the ad as I have seen lots of these whilst looking for swmbo's new motor.....

It can be annoying but generally the cheap ones are either a scam or cat d and as Wardy says if its to good to be true it probably is!

Sorry, but what a moron.

I agree, Autotrader is awful,

I think gumtree is the best out of them all, I've sold a couple of cars on there fast + It's free! :-)

http://www.gumtree.com

Imo autotrader has always been bad, was looking for a new(ish) van for work & think I found 1 within 50 miles that wasnt iffy! As for gumtree... no I don't want to get stabbed...

That will probably be more like 100 miles.....

While looking for swmbo's no wheels I found a Golf that was 'apparently' 64 miles away, when I did address to address it was actually 93! :o I think its more like edge of postcode to postcode.

Yeah I found out a while ago how the distances are not very accurate at all

Autotrader measure the distance as the bird flies

ROFL how handy! Perfect for when i`m going to look at a car, i`ll just fire up the helicopter

Matt

Autotrader measure the distance as the bird flies

Would that bird be a crow by any chance?

LOL - how did you think Autotrader measured the distance? Computed a driven, navigated distance via Google Maps for each and every location that it has a car advertised? :S
