Aerial change, Dance unit

Featured Replies

I have rummaged through various topics regarding the Aerial/Dance HU in the Roomster.

I have not come across any that give precise instructions as to how to change the aerial base unit. Most articles seem to suggest that the base unit is the main source of trouble due to water getting onto the contacts.

My questions are these:

1 Is there a straight swop after market aerial base unit that can be recommended?

2 How do I access that aerial base unit fitting?

3 Is this an easy to do job?

Strange as it may seem, the Dance HU actually worked fairly well until these last few weeks (maybe I have been fortunate). Unless I have to, I don't want to change the unit. SWMBO'd wants a DAB unit fitting, however, I have been able to put her off after responses to a previous posting...

Many thanks

Use genui e skoda part ~40€

Remove rubber sealing in the back, luggage compartment.

Unsrcrew belt holder in the roof, two torx t8 i believe???

Unsnap plastic interior on d-pillar.

Remove the four plastic thingys that holds the roof in the back, i used a knife to bend them down. You might want to buy new as they are impossible to remove without destroying them.

Carefully bend down the inner roof so that you can get your hand in, find the aerial cord, unsnap the connector 15cm from base.

Now you can feel the nut holding the base, unscrew it and the base can be lift of.

Carefully clean the surface were the base was, both outside and inside.

Put some silicone around the rubber sealing on the new base and then reassemble everything.

Newbie, thanks for your reply, however, you highlight a flaw in my question!

My Roomster is an 07 plate with the aerial at the front of the roof.

Again thanks, any other suggestions?

Of course I meant Javerhammar not Newbie...

Off for a long rest and cold compress!

in which case, i think there is a thread on here about that, from memory you remove the curtesy light module to access the ariel

yes, that is correct, remove i interior light and you will see bottom of base, still clean surface and silicone to prevent future leakege..

Can anyone tell me how you get the internal light module out of the headlining please.

It is a 56 reg (2006) model. I want to check out the condition of the radio aerial fixing.

I cannot see any screws but do not want to force it and damage it.

Thanks in advance.

Looked at old Hayes manual for a Golf 04 reg, which had a picture(same light design as Skoda), re changing the bulbs. In it I could see 2 philips screw securing the light.

So prise off the diffuser as if changing bulbs(in the Skoda handbook it says pull off with your fingers , but i needed and old flat bladed kitched knife)

You will see two screw securing the light fitting. I had mine off out of curiosity to see if there was any damp, there was none.

You will then clearly see the aeriel locknut.I didn,t go any further but I could feel what seemed to be an inline connecter incased in soundproofing foam.

Again I noticed not much slack in the cable to play around with

Thanks for the info Bob, as you said, 2 screws holding the unit in. I got the light fitting out and found the aerial fitting to be clean and dry. I managed to tighten it up a little but otherwise OK.

I also googled 'Skoda aerial problems' and got a few hits with some good information. If I could go back to the point where my Dance radio failed, I would just buy another one. It is too much hassle to fit an aftermarket radio on any Skoda model.

Just for information, I bought the aerial adaptor for the new radio (PC5-136) but also got one supplied in the fascia adaptor kit from the Skoda dealer. I found that the one in the Skoda kit is inferior to the aftermarket one. Barely got any FM stations with it.

The quality is still poor so I have sorted out a variety of CD's to play instead.

Just as a point of interest, nobody from Skoda UK must read the posts on this website. Nothing will ever improve without customer feedback because sooner or later, you have no customers.

True, would be nice if skoda had a rep on here to provide info and suggestions at least

What a wonderful ideal, of some Skoda UK technical/parts guru just watching in and chipping in with helpful advice now and then.

Giving general advice on parts and service costs, i.e. “you need this gearbox oil and can get it from “Skoda Cardiff” where it in stock at £!!

Or a main service will cost around £!!

And so on.

A nice thought but I can’t see it happening somehow.

I agree with you. I wrote a few times ago

AARRRRGGHH !!!

This threat makes me sick.

A recall, then a campaign then again a recall, no info from dealers.... I wish there was a way to prompt my VIN and be sure for my vehicle. I called three times to them I got three different answers. AAARRRRGHHH !! (again)

Hello Skoda, It's easy to create an automated information system about these things. You know, Vin, Licence Plate, VAT Num or Invoice Num or what ever you can think. Then an automated e-mail on request would be fine. As we say ... Online Databases?

I posted as much on their FB page and they did respond. Would be nice to get other briskodans chipping in with the request and perhaps they will do so
