Skoda is out of DSG-boxes for fabia

Featured Replies

Got an e-mail today from my seller and he says that there are no boxes build from the subcontractor and therefore pushing my car of the future.

He also wrote that my car would be build week 36 or before..

it took them 7 months to tell me.. something they very well knew before I ordered it...

If week 36 then I have waited 46 weeks from order..

I have no more words about this "lying company skoda".. think all know what I mean..

There is just one thing I regret about my first (and last) skoda order..

- Wish I could know how this company treat customers before I ordered it..

Feel sorry for you! It's a damn sha e that they still are having problems with delays!

But beside of that, all salesmen aren't bad. I can only imagine how much angry phonecalls, emails, visits etc. that they have to deal with everyday because lack of parts at the factory... Agree with you that they at least could keep you uodated with build times, delays etc.

Having lived with my car for almost 2month (not my first skoda) I don't think that i will choose anogher brand next time.

Ps. Both 1.8tsi and 1.2tsi share the same box, so the problem whit no boxes will affect all brands of the VAG group...

Sorry to hear this mate.

Maybe your seller should read the 2010 Skoda annual report (page 82) which tells him Skoda make their own DSG gearboxes and made 6.5% fewer in 2010 than 2009 due to fewer orders being received. This would tell me they were working below capacity in 2010.

It may be the case that the Skoda gearbox plant is having problems sourcing components (especially electronics from Japan) but otherwise this does not make sense.

Ps. Both 1.8tsi and 1.2tsi share the same box, so the problem whit no boxes will affect all brands of the VAG group...

The 1.2TSi, 1.4TSi (Both Versions) 1.8TSi and 1.6TDi all use the same DSG box across VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat.

Skoda do have engine and gearbox plants but it's not as simple as they make them for themselves, depending on demand across the group engines and boxes are shipped about.

Buy an Audi and it's quite possible it will have Skoda components especially if it has a 1.2TSi and DSG.

Skoda make nearly 3 times as many 1.2TSi's as they fit in their own cars but their is still a waiting list for the engine in Skoda's as allocation is made by VAG and not Skoda.

We have a non confirmed build week of 40 which if all goes to plan will be a 44-46 week wait on delivery.

Cheers

Interesting thread.

You would think by reading this forum on waiting times in general Skoda need to make some sort of promise through the dealers because they are going to loose more customers than they will gain by the way its working at the moment.

Totally agree, it wouldn't be so bad if they were honest upfront and be more realistic on waiting times.. I was told that if I was to have one built to order it would take 12 weeks from order date to delivery (that was in the last week of February) I'm ever so glad I bought their showroom model as I doubt they would have been able to deliver on that promise.

octavia have an different dsg-box.. its the fabia they dont have boxes for..

that'll be the answer then!

Weird, was told by my VAG mechanic that they do have the same gearbox, as does the superb 1.8tsi and as above mentioned 1.4tsi and the 1.6 diesel in all VAG cars...

Thats the reason why I felt comfortable buying the DSG.

Thinking that if the box can handle 160hp and 250NM? in a 1700kg car, then the lighter and not so powerful fabia wont be that hard to the box = a long and happy life =)

Skoda only use two DSG's.

7 speed dry clutch on all vehicles with 1.2TSi, 1.4TSi, 1.8TSi and 1.6TDi

6 speed wet clutch on all vehicles with 1.9TDi. 2.0TDi and 2.0TSi.

Cheers

So they stick a different knob on for the Octy. The gearbox it is attached to will be exactly the same. It would not make economic sense to have to build different gearboxes for each model, the final drive gear may well be different between models to account for different sizes of wheels and tyres, that is probably all the difference there is.

i was thinking that, with my 1.2 the dsg should out live rest of the car

The thing is the customer is being told there are no gearboxes from a sub contractor NOT we are building lots of gearboxes, in fact the factory is not even at full capacity as we REDUCED production in 2010 compared to 2009. However, VAG will not let us have any gearboxes we have made to put in your car.

Someone in VAG knows exactly what parts are being allocated to what orders. I don't know what time scales they are working to but looking at all the just in time pages on the web it would appear VAG work to a quarterly schedule (rather than the Toyota monthly schedule). It would therefore follow that a customer can be told in which quarter production of their car has been allocated, even if the exact week is not known.

I call BS. Ordered my vRS in March and have a build date in week 21.

Just spoke to my dealer and he has not heard anything about the fabia DSG just the roomster's DSG...

He said the fabia's are fine

seems to me like no one knows exactly whats going on emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

Youre right about dealer honesty, I know my local dealer is telling all customers that want an octy diesel to expect 6-9 months wait.

As far as dealers knowing whats going on, well that seems to depend on the communication they have with their Head office, & the head office communication with Main factory.

Forgive me xcyber, but practically every post you make is negative and critical of Skoda. Given you will have waited nearly a year, I am sure I am not the only person here who is thinking "why have you not simply cancelled your order?" I am 100% certain that I would not want to spend the thick end of a year groaning about something I actually have control over :wonder:

forgive me but i moan

i was threatened with 12 week delivery when i said don't want it till mid april

if it comes earlier we will register it and hold it for you

and now of course it isn't i am on to week 33 buildemoticon-0156-rain.gifemoticon-0156-rain.gifemoticon-0133-wait.gifemoticon-0133-wait.gif
