Grrr, another bloomin nail.....

Featured Replies

Heard a noise on the way into work, so stopped, checked it out, big nail in the tyre....again......

What concerns me more tho, is that I am not far from the wear indicators, but have only done 6000 miles on the tyre.

I'm not a spirited driver, in fact I drive quite conservatively considering the car, but then I have owned a vRS since 2002.

So, even if they will repair it, I don't reckon I will see more than 7-7.5k out of the front tyres, which to me seems really poor.

They are Conti Sport contact 2's

What are others getting out of their tyres, any petrols out there around the same milage?

Incidentally, these tyres were ****e in the snow too, any slight incline, I had no grip at all, maybe I will go for some all seasons next time, can I do that, all seasons on front and sport contacts on the rear?

Or is it best not to mix?

Can't comment how long mine lasted as i had a puncture at 3k which went totally flat and killed the sidewall and a raised drain took out the sidewall of the other front one at 8k! At 8k though they were fine on the tread wear.

As for grip in the winter you won't get any with performance 225 width tyres. I have got a set of 16inch wheels with winter tyres on and they were great. The smugness on my face when i overtook a 4x4 on a hill that was stuck!

I only got 8 k out of the sport contacts 2's from the factory...I do every now and then misbehave on country roads when out fishing

the sport contact 3's seem to be wearing much better another 6 k on them and they hardly look worn

Hmmm, this is it, I dont do much misbehaving at all, but then I dont do many motorway miles either, so maybe the town roads are eating them up quicker?

Just doesn't seem a lot....

(and before anyone ask's, I check Pressures regularly, usually during my weekly washing routine)

I have Fulda Exceleros and Falken FK542s on mine. The Falkens are due for change soon but both have worn very well. The Fuldas have been on my car since last feb when I bought it and have done about 17,000 miles on the rear and 5,000 mles on the front. They still have 5mm of tread left on then so still plenty of miles in them. Plus they grip very well and are not noisy. I will be getting some more of these as they are a fantastic tyre and I was sceptical of them when I first got the car. The Falkens have done well too and covered 14,000 mles on the front and 5,000 on the rear and have 3mm of tread left. But at about £80 for a tyre for the Fuldas, they get my vote!

just bought my girlfriends vrs with 19k on the clock and am having two new sport contact 2s fitted tomorrow, 19k seems good going for a pair of tyres, not sure i will get the same!

I got around 18,000 miles on Sport Contact 2's when I had my VRS, which seemed fairly reasonable to me.

Hmm, stories of 18-19k milage sounds great, although i really think I'm gonna struggle to hit 8k

Again, i'm no boy racer, pressures checked regularly, no un-even wear, no heavy breaking.....

Strange......

I got 14,000 on Conti 2s on the front of my PD vRS.

Then again, I only got 16,000 out of the Dunlop Sport Maxxs on my current vRS and they were on the back for 6,000 and on the front for 10,000.

The current trend appears to be for tyres that wear relatively quickly, but probably give more grip.

Not wishing to cast aspersions but what's your local road quality like? Wonder how significant that is?
