Can the police do this??

Featured Replies

im a little confused   so when the copper said that the dvla with take my plate off me did he mean the tangable plate or the right to have it on a car?

I'm assuming that they mean the plate itself, unless they have something in place which means that for persistent offenders they can get the DVLA to invalidate the ownership of the registration...that would seem a bit silly though, as the registration mark itself isn't what's illegal, it's just the spacing and font on the physical plate...

A fine of up to

Sounds to me like the MOT tester was wrong to let it out again IMO.

well thats what i thought, tbh im pritty up on most traffic law but i was stumped when he said this. but half the problem is that he has pulled me before and gave me a warning! i think it could be the yarn that coppers spout. i was in my saxo once and i had to tell a copper how to fill in the producer after we had just argued that a 3 month old car doesnt need a mot! and another time i got pulled a wpc tryed to give me points for having my fogs on!! what do they teach coppers these days!! :finger:

There are arguments both ways, however it is more motorist persecution rather than sorting out the real criminals who are in fact probably driving a stolen car loaded with stuff from the house they have burgled.

Can' the police concentrate on real criminals as opposed to easy targets like the motorist with rubbish like this

i said the same thing to a pc that came into work! he said that all the coppers hate traffic as it gives them a bad name..the people that catch the real criminals

In my experience, traffic cops are pretty fair. If they stop you then you're bang to rights. I've been cut loads of slack by them in the past.

If you've been warned about something and basically appear to have ignored what you have been told then they're not going to be overly impressed.

i do agree that i have had a fair warning and i do deserve my fine if u want to be picky about a numberplate thats not that mucked up! im not a chavy, gobby tw*t thats shouts at every copper but at the end of the day there are loads of sheds in weston filled with smack heads driving to get the latest fix ie no insurence etc etc. they want easy money cus they know i will pay the fine!...... a copper once said to me that there person u have just give a stupid fine to could be a witness to jail the person that has just kick the **** out of u!

I won't bother with AP05 TER then, A Poster, get it

would be a good plate on a post van though!!!!

One of our customers at SEAT had YG 02 SLO

Y GO 2 SLO

Was quite funny when it was in our yard with a smashed in from as he drove into the back off a 4x4 iirc, err that will be why then.

And yes the DVLA can withdraw your reg leaving you with having to re reg it possibly on a Q plate.

  • Author

why would they put in on a q plate?? i have the log book and the car is only a month old?? the seat dealer by me was selling plates e.g S15EAT (S1 5EAT)

IF the reg is revoked by DVLA - the vehicle will usually be re-issued with its orignal reg,if this is no longer available a correct date plate will be issued.

Q-plates are only used for vehicles of unknown age or repaired write-offs that type of thing.

god thats ok then i dont want a q reg!! i have found a plate E1 RCH that will do me but its

Thats assuming it is a private plate and not the original plate that has been illegally spaced.

But didnt know that they could re register a car on the same age plate, sorry for that. But it does cost to re register the car.

Oh yes you would have to pay - and they would probably make you pay to take the private plate off and then to put the new plate on -

Yeah thats right, Russell. Nice bloke, nice system in the car as I recall.

The cops are always pulling him over for that plate as well though!!

I looked at custom plates for a laugh, but the price alone put me off immediately..
