Order modification after delivery?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I'm due to take delivery of my new vRS in a couple of weeks and wondered if I had an right to refuse to take an option when it arrives?

I don't like the fact that I have ordered an Amundsen Sat Nav and there is an Amundsen+ with built in storage and pre-installed maps newly available (seen it on the updated gbr car configurator) and so I don't really want the old one.

I think any dealer will view this as "tough" sadly.

You've ordered an Amundsen and that's exactly what you've got...

The fact they change it isn't up to the dealers/Skoda I don't think.

They probably only started fitting the + model at a certain build week and if you did want one and had changed your order, it would have delayed your car....

I think :)

If only I could have delayed my car - it was built on week 21.

That week has caused me a lot of heartache and extra cash!

I suppose I'll see whether it has 7 digit postcode search - if not I'll just tell them it's not fit for purpose. No doubt I'll find a buyer on eBay for it too.

If it hasn't, I'm pretty sure you can get an "upgrade disk" for it that'll do 7 digit postcodes 8)

I think they have a fix for this now?

I read somewhere that this is the case but that the update was standard on BW22 cars onwards. The thread I saw mentioned the dealer trying to charge someone who had taken delivery 8 weeks previous £130 to bring it up to date.

Will all cars be fitted with the + unit after week 22 and if so is the diff just that it has built in maps?

Not sure Adam but the built in maps is quite a big thing as it means you don't have to mess about with a disc and can actually listen to a CD when you set off, making it potentially safer for you as a driver.

I would have thought it highly unlikely you would be able to refuse the car on this option.

When you signed the paperwork it was a contract to provide you with a vehicle of the specification you and the dealer agreed at a price you and the dealer agreed upon.

Once that had been set - any changes to the basic specification unfortunately do not have to be passed on.

Say the car had gone up in price after you had placed your order - would you expect to have to pay the new, higher price?

If say the basic specifcation had changed and the size of the wheels was now smaller - would you expect the size of wheels you ordered or the new, smaller ones?

It's the same in any industry where the item has to be built - unfortunately specifications change.

If they chance for the better for the customer then it's unfortunate, but at the same time if they change for the worse for the customer then you're protected.

The Sat-Nav was quite "fit for purpose" when you ordered it, nothing has changed here just because a new version has released.

So really if you're going to argue, that line I wouldn't have thought would wash with any dealer.

I'm not saying refuse the car, I'm saying refuse the Navigation unit.

I'm not even moaning about the price or anything like that - I'd happily pay full whack for the Amundsen+ (I got the original on the VAT deal).

As far as fit for purpose goes, just have a look at what I ordered and you'll see that I just reeled off whatever I could see on the options list, with the exception of a Sunroof. I have an RNS510 in my Octavia vRS and that is very much fit for purpose. The Amundsen is nowhere near this model and the Amundsen+ claws some points back.

I understand what you're saying.

I'm simply preparing you for the dealers probable response.

When you ordered the car the Nav unit you ordered was obviously "fit for purpose" or else you wouldn't have ordered it.

You wouldn't have looked at the specification, decided it didn't do what you wanted it to do and then order it anyway.

Saying you didn't read the specifications of the unit before ordering it isn't going to be a good defence - again the dealership is going to assume you've read about the features you are ordering.

I'll have your Amundsen on the cheap so you can buy an Amundsen + :D

How's about I sell it to you for the VAT free price, less 10%? :)

Sounds good... :)
